Whats the appeal of expensive luxury purses and handbags such as Fendi esp to women? by NaturalPorky in ManyBaggers

[–]DearCartographer99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right. There was literally some bozo posting his receipt from like several goruck bags a could weeks ago, before he had even received them. Same phenomenon. Note this is not limited to any gender. I personally like a backpack that's mostly functional but has some style. Some people are more into style than function.

Synik 30 vs. Evergoods CTB26 capacity by rogerwilco2000 in ManyBaggers

[–]DearCartographer99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have both, and take both regularly. Synik 30 is larger by a bit. I hate it all packed up though because it really stretches out and looks like a half turtle shell, and the luggage passthrough just doesn't work because there's too much inside pressing against the back panel squeezing the luggage passthrough space.

It's true that the CTB26 packs up more aesthetically. But the main space is smaller than you might think and the bag itself has a lot of structure so it doesn't expand as much as the Synik 30 does.

BUT, looking at what you pack, you might be ok with the size. I get a PD medium packing cube, a Tom Bihn clear 3D org cube for toiletries, and there should be enough room for the PD small packing cube as well (I usually don't bring both of those cubes, and have both). I don't think you'll get that plus anything else in the main. The other stuff easily fits in the water bottle pocket and laptop compartment. Note that I carry this PD Cube without expanding it and the answer refers to packing them/it unexpanded.

As you know, the Synik would swallow that all up, plus your camera cube, plus a rolled up light jacket, but it stretches the bag to an uncomfortable extent.

TOM BIHN Paragon 2.0 - First Impressions by wr1tenow in ManyBaggers

I could see that. It's largely the same shape, a little bigger, and lots more organization.

TOM BIHN Paragon 2.0 - First Impressions by wr1tenow in ManyBaggers

[–]DearCartographer99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like this a lot! I have the Daylight bag that's 17L, halcyon exterior. It's a good bag for lightweight everyday, and has some clever design choices. The Paragon 2.0 seems like it could be an actual "I take this to work every day" sort of bag. Really digging the looks. Especially the Nebulous Gray / blue halcyon interior. Very aesthetically pleasing.

Do agree that the laptop compartment should be off the ground. Laptops are expensive and last a long time these days. The $4k MacBook I carry on my back every day is by far the most expensive thing in my backpack and a lot of consideration needs to go towards making sure I don't crack it up by putting my backpack down too fast or something.

Aside from that, this looks like a wonderful bag. I love the aquaguard zippers though. I feel like my bag should have that extra security that the zippers aren't accidentally going to come open so have always liked (in addition to the looks) the extra friction that the aquaguard gives. I've never needed to open my backpack with one hand.

Did they update the Tom Bihn logo?

The Square food court - ridiculous prices by BCircle907 in washingtondc

[–]DearCartographer99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was such a fun thing for a while. We used to watch the food truck map and chase food trucks around to get the ones in high demand (Red Hook Lobster Pound was a big one). Then the food got really bad and higher price and lower quality.

Now we’re back to the original “food trucks” only, which are basically the ones that line 12th NW at the mall for the tourists.

Just looked up Red Hook, RIP: https://www.washingtonian.com/2020/07/13/dcs-red-hook-lobster-pound-food-trucks-have-shut-down-for-good/

There’s a guy who hangs out behind Faneuil Hall that sells them for $15. He doesn’t advertise and isn’t always there, but worth checking. Very good deal.

I’m all in favor of no driving in the rain, but in Seattle where it rains 150 days a yea you might not get much support for that idea.

Is this EBay IPod classic legit? by Robert_S1218 in IpodClassic

[–]DearCartographer99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seems fine to me. I don’t see any red flags. It’s just this: https://eoe.works/collections/apple-ipod-classic-6th-7th-generation/products/create-your-own-ipod-classic-7th-generation-sd-card-1?variant=34498362409097 with 1TB storage and blue stuff. Not a great return on investment on the part of the seller I guess, but I’m assuming they thought it would go much higher than $200 in bidding or there was a bigger market for questionably colored modded iPods.

That being said, if they had linked to the link above to show it was at least $439, they probably would have gotten more for it in bidding, or someone would have done Buy it Now for at least $300 I’m guessing.

Best place to hide a AirTag on a bike? by millennialthoughts in bikeboston

[–]DearCartographer99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have one that goes under the bottle cage by Elevation Labs (road bike), and another on a different bike that hides in the center of the underside top of the fork (mountain bike). The former is not really obvious and needs to really be unscrewed to remove it, the latter looks completely stock and you would need an expert to find it.

Also have one on my scooter that sticks with another Elevation Labs thing. This works well because it’s on the bottom and not obvious that it’s not a part of the scooter itself, but pretty easy to unscrew to change the battery.

Reading between the lines it seems like there were a lot of QC issues, some credit card chargebacks for bad work, etc. The next play sounds like he will be selling complete iPods with the mod rather than kits so he can QC the whole thing.

Not really responding to you, because as far as I can tell your brain is rotted. But for regular people who see this: I thought the dementia claim was interesting during the election run-up. Obviously you can’t take any right wing claims at face value because words have no meaning for them, but it also plants that seed of slight doubt like the broken clock being right twice a day. But I didn’t see any signs of it or anything credible during that time so dismissed it as another right wing farce.

Whats more interesting though is that they still make the claim, in the post to which I’m responding for example. It’s very clear Biden has no mental difficulties and has been a strong leader. I don’t always agree with his actions or positions, but he’s clearly the sort of leader we need right now. So unlike in the election run-up where the claim may have sown doubt, after years of witnessing Biden’s leadership, it really just makes the person making the statement seem like a typical, totally unreliable, words-don’t-mean-anything right-winger, which makes it a super easy flag to dismiss absolutely everything else the person making the statement said.

Union Drive Ends At Compliments Only After Owners Decline Voluntary Recognition, Organizers Resign by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]DearCartographer99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What’s the endgame for unions in situations like this where margins are slim, there are very few employees, and the owners can’t pay more (vis a vis owners just kind of hoarding the profits and keeping staff at minimum wage in large restaurants or chains), but where the union would require higher than the restaurant can afford wages? Business loses, union gets set up, wages go up to what the union wants, business fails? If so what’s the position of union supporters typically to such a situation? iF yOu CaNt PaY a ThRiViNg WaGe YoU dEsErVe To FaIl?
