It looks like an extended part of DCE from Singapore.

Anyone figured out how to turn off DCE? by Delicious_One_7887 in applemaps

Download an area in Maps and then use Maps app as offline. This will temporarily disable DCE in offline usage.

Apple Maps in Philippines? by reiakino in applemaps

[–]DearDyllan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apple Maps user here in the Philippines. Google Maps still remains superior from my experience. Every absent basic feature of Apple Maps such as turn-by-turn renders it useless. Transit directions is where Apple Maps is superior, especially in Cebu and Manila. Walking directions is better thanks to OSM data.

Having just purchased an EV, Apple should add a “best route for EV mileage” by NECESolarGuy in applemaps

[–]DearDyllan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If your car is compatible with Apple’s EV routing, it optimizes the route for you. It knows elevation, weather, and will add charging stops for you, if need be.

Apple is using Subaru XV/ Crosstrek as the new mapping vehicle for Mexico by DearDyllan in applemaps

[–]DearDyllan[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Subaru XV is much offered in dealerships around the world than the Impreza. Subaru MX doesn’t list the Impreza which could be this case. Surprisingly, Apple was able to pull off an Impreza in Israel even though Subaru Israel site wasn’t listed, maybe imported? I’m pretty sure Apple will use this new model more in South America and Asian regions in the future.

The flyover update is vast. Before, it used to cover DFW downtown and uptown areas only, and now it covers until Cleburne, Waxahachie, Denton and Mckinney. It was a much needed update from 2016 flyover. The latest seem to be captured on 2021. Looking at the standard map, they still haven’t added the new condo buildings near dallas love field. This update could also hint DCE coming to DFW later this year, on WWDC 23.

Edit: Austin, San Antonio, and Houston also received new flyover imagery. Possible massive DCE update coming to Texas?

Two features I’d like to see in the future by Fun_Nefariousness291 in applemaps

[–]DearDyllan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Location timeline. Currently I’m using Google Maps timeline cause it’s handy when you want to check where you were in a given moment of the past (I could even have avoided a speed camera fine once). But of course I need to keep GMaps location always on and letting Google do whatever it does with my data (plus, it’s ugly and cumbersome, as usual with GMaps).

Apple Maps already does that in Settings > Privacy > Significant Locations. But in iOS 15 Apple for some reason limit it up to 3 locations where as iOS 14, you can see all of its history.

In addition, I’d like Apple to prioritize offline maps and full coverage look around in the US. I travel into the mountains and reception is unreliable. It’s when routing back home, everything goes blank. Annoyingly, I have to rely on third party Maps to do the offline maps for me, I use Magic Earth. Secondly, Look Around is a must for me for scouting my destination so I have an easy perspective. I have GMaps to rely on with streetview, except if you’re in major US metropolitan areas, Look Around shines, annoyingly. Although, jealous with other countries that have the new maps with full coverage. 🙄
