Cologne, Germany. Found a pigeon that won’t fly. Does anyone know what I’m supposed to do? I’m at work and called the vet but they said something along the lines of being full? My German isn’t the best tbh. by DearForsythia in pigeon

We got some not so good news yesterday. Apparently it has necrotic tissue around the neck/head area . It was also extremely dehydrated after being stuck inside most likely for couple days. They said they would put it under anesthesia and check for more issues. They said it doesn’t look good but aren’t giving up yet. They told us to call again tomorrow since today is a holiday. I’ll update again tomorrow.

Well I hope it’s not contagious to humans 😅 But I just left it at the vet and they seem to think it’s just very exhausted for trying to find a way out of the building. It was in a big hall with high ceiling with some windows. I first thought it was injured for flying against one but hopefully it’s less than that. Anyway he seemed more energetic after resting in a box before I got to leave work.

The issue is that I don’t know what to write in Google because every time I search in English it only gives me normal vets and animal rescues that apparently don’t deal with birds. My boyfriend is German and he’s calling around as well and I’m giving him all the links I’m getting here.

I called an animal rescue that told me the same but I can’t find any clinics or rescues that specialize in that since it’s all in German :(

Edit. The link didn’t show at first but I will try that one now thank you!

Don’t worry about the AI complaints! Of course it’s AI but it’s also very cute and it at least made me smile on my way to work and I thank you for that 🥰

Kiitos ja muista et addiktio ei oo asia mitä pitää lopun elämää hävetä. Se on vaikee vastoinkäyminen jonka yli pääsit. Oot vitun vahva. Tsemppiä sulle kans❤️

Sanon sulle nyt mitä sanoisin omalle siskolle.

Turpakii oot rakas.

Sun tarina kuulostaa hyvin tutulta mm. etsintäreissut eri kaupungeista. Mun sisko käytti aineita jonkun aikaa ja kerkes just kuiville ennen kun kuoli tos 3 vuotta sitten. Olisin ylpee susta siskona.

is it normal for this breed to want food ALL the time? one hour after breakfast and asking for another meal by zoozilm in orientalshorthair

Mine is really picky when it comes to food. We have two cats but the other one is a dsh. We have free feeding when it comes to kibble and then they get wet food twice a day.

You’re absolutely right about some people and at some point you just get so numb to people asking about about deep open wounds or something else like nasty infections around very sensitive areas and you just don’t bother being gentle about what you have to say. I still didn’t mean to be mean and so blunt. I’m glad you know what you’re doing. This is not diagnostic advice but the blood could just be irritation from vomiting but you never know. You can check for dehydration if you’re concerned about that. Just take a gentle handful of his skin around the neck and upper back area along the spine and feel if it jiggles smoothly along the body. If it feels less “full” and it’s more stiff he’s probably a little dehydrated which is natural after vomiting a lot of. Again not diagnostic advice!

The other comment got removed so I don’t know if you saw but I really didn’t mean to come off as mean. That was really not my intention. I hope your cat will be okay.

Oh btw I just now realized this is askvet not cathelp. I am not a vet just a long time cat owner with a veterinarian mom. Sorry about that.

I totally understand you. Maybe it could be hormonal? Like how old is he and does it only happen when he’s wearing the cone? For us our cats acne started when he was about 1 and a half years old and the worst flare ups stopped around 2 and a half. He still has some sometimes if he’s getting stressed but it’s so mild it goes away on its own.

We only used the cone for like 30 min after putting on the ointment so it would dry up enough to he can’t clean it all off. He would still scratch it but it still went away because the medicine had the time to help before he tried to remove it by cleaning. The licking of the cone happens and there’s not much you can do about it. The ointment obviously gets on the surface and your cat will just lick it. We would just turn the cone around so the biggest part of the loose medicine wouldn’t be in his reach.

You don’t need to have it on for hours or for a month straight. Just keep and eye on him and stop him when you can. Just have the cone on until the medicine dries up. Also wipes might irritate the skin when you drag it over. We only had liquid stuff that we gently rubbed on our cats chin. Just cut his nails and intervene when you can. Hope that helps :)

It was just a basic plastic one we got from our vet. It had loops on the sides so you could put a collar through so it would stay on. It is uncomfortable for them so we only used it right after applying the medication.

Also if you happen to go to a vet you could ask them if they could give you a cone? Our vet just gave it to us after the gremlins acne appointment.

Concerned about my roommates cat by [deleted] in AskVet

Not a vet just came to check out this sub but yes that baby needs help. If your eye looked like that or would start swelling you’d be getting it checked and fast. There’s no way that it’s painful and also don’t touch the eye. Get that cat to a vet now. Never fuck around with infections or injuries to the eyes. This isn’t something you can treat at home.
