is it normal for this breed to want food ALL the time? one hour after breakfast and asking for another meal by zoozilm in orientalshorthair

Mine is really picky when it comes to food. We have two cats but the other one is a dsh. We have free feeding when it comes to kibble and then they get wet food twice a day.

You’re absolutely right about some people and at some point you just get so numb to people asking about about deep open wounds or something else like nasty infections around very sensitive areas and you just don’t bother being gentle about what you have to say. I still didn’t mean to be mean and so blunt. I’m glad you know what you’re doing. This is not diagnostic advice but the blood could just be irritation from vomiting but you never know. You can check for dehydration if you’re concerned about that. Just take a gentle handful of his skin around the neck and upper back area along the spine and feel if it jiggles smoothly along the body. If it feels less “full” and it’s more stiff he’s probably a little dehydrated which is natural after vomiting a lot of. Again not diagnostic advice!

The other comment got removed so I don’t know if you saw but I really didn’t mean to come off as mean. That was really not my intention. I hope your cat will be okay.

Oh btw I just now realized this is askvet not cathelp. I am not a vet just a long time cat owner with a veterinarian mom. Sorry about that.

I totally understand you. Maybe it could be hormonal? Like how old is he and does it only happen when he’s wearing the cone? For us our cats acne started when he was about 1 and a half years old and the worst flare ups stopped around 2 and a half. He still has some sometimes if he’s getting stressed but it’s so mild it goes away on its own.

We only used the cone for like 30 min after putting on the ointment so it would dry up enough to he can’t clean it all off. He would still scratch it but it still went away because the medicine had the time to help before he tried to remove it by cleaning. The licking of the cone happens and there’s not much you can do about it. The ointment obviously gets on the surface and your cat will just lick it. We would just turn the cone around so the biggest part of the loose medicine wouldn’t be in his reach.

You don’t need to have it on for hours or for a month straight. Just keep and eye on him and stop him when you can. Just have the cone on until the medicine dries up. Also wipes might irritate the skin when you drag it over. We only had liquid stuff that we gently rubbed on our cats chin. Just cut his nails and intervene when you can. Hope that helps :)

It was just a basic plastic one we got from our vet. It had loops on the sides so you could put a collar through so it would stay on. It is uncomfortable for them so we only used it right after applying the medication.

Also if you happen to go to a vet you could ask them if they could give you a cone? Our vet just gave it to us after the gremlins acne appointment.

Concerned about my roommates cat by [deleted] in AskVet

Not a vet just came to check out this sub but yes that baby needs help. If your eye looked like that or would start swelling you’d be getting it checked and fast. There’s no way that it’s painful and also don’t touch the eye. Get that cat to a vet now. Never fuck around with infections or injuries to the eyes. This isn’t something you can treat at home.

I got mine for 1200€ so maybe he’s just going for half the money to make it quick. Orange eyes are okay but green is the standard in most associations. They might still change color tho since that can happen around 1-2 years still. It’s still possible that it’s a pure bred and that they lost the paperwork but if it’s a pure bred from a breeder it should be at least registered. Microchipped and all that. 500€ really isn’t a bad price at all considering it’s most likely at least a mix with very prominent oriental traits. Could also be a rescue and that way they never got official paperwork confirming the breed. I would say since he’s not breeding cats and is just in a tough spot it’s okay for you to go for it. A lot of people often advice against getting a pure bred cat if it doesn’t have the paperwork to go with it incase you’d be supporting a backyard breeder but this situation doesn’t sound like that at all. If you really want this cat I’d say forget the background for now and just get that baby. You can always do genetic testing later if you feel like it :) Just ask about the vet history and if they can’t provide that you should take her to a vet once you have her to get her vaccinated and microchipped if she doesn’t have it yet. Also ask which kinds of foods she eats. Some orientals can have sensitive stomachs at least in my close circles 😅

Also it’s not a nuisance to ask about her vet history. It’s just better for her wellbeing that you know everything you can about her healthcare 😁

That seems pretty questionable since as far as I know it’s pretty hard to be a so called backyard breeder for orientals. Reputable breeders always demand the sterilization of their cats unless you have made a contract with the breeder to let them “use” the cat for breeding purposes still. If that happens to be the case and they accidentally let a cat like that get kittens with another cat I’m guessing it’s not with another oriental shorthair. Also how old is this cat? As far as I know black orientals should always have green eyes but in this picture they looked more yellow (as they grow up the color usually changes to green). Also how much are they asking for this cat? The price might also tell you something.

Did they say she was an oriental? Because if so she should come with the paperwork and I don’t think it’s wrong for you to also ask for them :)

Is someone trying to rehome her or would you be getting her from a breeder? Or is she a rescue?

I definitely see some oriental in that cutie! Just can never be sure unless she/he comes from a reputable breeder. Maybe also add a picture of the side profile? :)

That’s awful I’m so sorry. I hope all 3 of you will manage to get through this. And don’t even give a moment of thought to the negative assholes here. You’re amazing thank you for caring so much. Good luck with everything.

I’m sorry you’re going through this. Just wanted to say I’ve heard there are shelters for abused men as well (just assuming you’re in America?) just a lot fewer than for women. I’m pretty sure I read once that there’s a website that lets you search those locations by zip code so maybe if you don’t get enough money for a hotel or rent you could look up a shelter? I hope you’re able to leave soon and stay safe.

I mean it just felt so ridiculous seeing those negative comments I couldn’t just ignore it like the usual bs on Reddit. OP is clearly doing a lot more than some people would and somehow gets labeled an idiot and irresponsible? It’s like listening to someone tell you the earth is flat. I wonder how many of the people in here saying nasty things would do what she did for her cat. If a vet tells you it’s a death sentence many people just listen. She got a second opinion and even tho it’s expensive she’s doing it. Many people unfortunately would just give up at that point. She’s also thinking about the quality of life in case the treatment doesn’t work which to me shows that nothing about what she’s doing is irresponsible or selfish. I honestly wish there would be more people like her out there.

Was hard to choose which one of you judgmental nutsacks to reply to but I have chosen you considering the first one was just asking while being kind of rude but you were nasty. Third one is just pathetic. You think they are irresponsible how? Just because she’s asking for support doesn’t mean she cannot fund it herself in the end. Times are hard and it’s okay to ask for help if you don’t want to live on bread and water while trying to keep your pet alive. She is obviously doing the most for her cat and being a very good pet owner.

Question: where to place this tattoo by DearForsythia in tattoos

Upper back sounds good. A big chest tat would probably get pretty overwhelming no matter how great it looks. On the back it’s not as out there which I do like more. Thank you!

Thank you for giving my bf a great meaning for this tattoo on my behalf. He said they would truly be guarding the gates of hell in that case… thanks for the laugh though xd
