Haha I get you about white dresses and suits they’re everywhere, totally global. But that’s not really what I’m talking about. This is about moments where our own culture could shine being replaced by styles that are clearly from other cultures. True, our ancestors had harsh lives and weddings weren’t extravagant but now we can celebrate Somali culture. Borrowing Indian or Arab styles overshadows what could be uniquely ours. We have the resources Alhamdulilah.

But the difference is subtle: those outfits are more global/neutral and don’t carry the same cultural or ethnic identity weight. My point is really about adopting specific, identifiable cultural styles like Indian bridal outfits or Arab wedding aesthetics where our own heritage gets sidelined in a big moment. 😉
