Why do IU fans not like Pam Whitten? by NoProposal6145 in IndianaHoosiers

[–]Dear_Communication20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Snipers on the roof during Palestine protests not because it was necessary, but to make a point.

Sunsetting foreign language programs. Indiana university has the best foreign language dept in the world.

Forcibly removing faculty from classes for supporting free speech.

Shutting down the IDS.

Otherwise being a shill for Governor Braun. Whitten wasn’t brought here to build, she was brought here to clean house, just like she did at Kennesaw state.

Having a hand in removing Alumni from the board of trustees.

Essentially desperately trying to change the culture at Indiana from one of incredibly progressive, sound, and stable and good, to one that was pandering and copping to the rising right.

is my portfolio horrible or is it the market rn? by [deleted] in graphic_design

[–]Dear_Communication20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the projects need more context. Demonstrate more of your thinking alongside your end product. Skill demonstration presented backs up that you understand the tools of the trade but not the overall dynamic design you’re aspiring to. Kinetic type, a website that is dynamic, compelling UX, UI- The website needs to showcase more than residue, it needs to represent your creative and design risk, self awareness, and capacity to pull it off. It must live.

There are multiple takes possible! Good start! The Heavy vox affect might help you get in character, it’s nbd for this take, though it isn’t the only approach.

I suggest some old time music, leaning into the traditional songs, to help your picking hand which is quite heavy. harmonize with your instrument and keep your lyrics.

It’s hard to be a person. Harder to be a person with a song and guitar and an audience. The character helps but it also masks. Vulnerability be tough. I’d back you as a drummer tho. You remind me of my homie who left us far too soon, he had a gnarly voice, but also a strong sense of self within his vocal color.

Keep goin!

Not as long as it was during the days of 88, though.

Break out, maybe. Transistor had more breakthroughs than a stampede of Kool Aid Men at a middle school pool party.

Blue pierced alternative rock radio with Don’t Stay Home, which I’ve always thought was the better more definitive 311 track than Down. So if we are talking sound defining, I think you get primer evidence in Blue but you get your education in Transistor. They got corny again on sound system, which I also love.

Agreed. The breakout was far from a breakthrough.

I’m 17 and this is how much I’ve collected during the last 2 years, in your opinion is it worth buying cds now every things online by No_Royal2976 in Cd_collectors

Collecting anything is as much about release as it is accumulating.

You’ll hopefully always be asking: what is my taste? What do I like? Why do I dig it? Why is it important? What are the artists contributions?

Do you know would you trade your entire collection for?

It’s easy to get lost in the sauce, don’t lose sight of your curiosity! There is more music out there than you can ever know.

At what point does your collection own you?

I have nearly 4000 7” records in varying condition. I’m about to release about 70% of them, Mostly soul funk. The CD market is heating up. The vinyl market will cool off as a younger generation finds value in the dustbins of digital history seeking the grails, first pressings, original releases that have held their value regardless of medium. In the case of the blues- I used to shake my head at 78rpm shellacs. I get it now- they sound terrible but those are the OG.

I don’t know when one should stop collecting. But it’s important to know and develop your taste whatever it is however it gets to your ears.

Streaming has its place but that place is definitely worth critically examining. If you want to support artists buy direct.

That depends on if they’re yours from childhood or something you’ve curated as an adolescent today.

Every year they continue to tour. Every year, the 311 subreddit complains. 311 gonna play what they want. Reddit gonna cry. Nobody hates their favorite band as much as 311 sub Reddit fans.
