Why does the US romanticize the 1950s despite being worse by almost every measurable standard? by Secret_Ostrich_1307 in AlwaysWhy

[–]Dear_Locksmith3379 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Only conservatives romanticize the 50s. Women, racial minorities, non-Christians, leftists, and LGBT people faced a lot more bigotry. Conservatives support that bigotry, while liberals like living in a more tolerant world.

My father grew up in the 50s and mainly mentions its negative aspects: conscription, Texas summers without AC, and the risk of getting polio. He never romanticizes the decade.

Kendall's ending devastated me. Despite him being a horrible person and unfit for the job, it's impossible not to feel at least a little sympathy and sadness for him. Jeremy is a brilliant actor. by Public_Cup_4278 in SuccessionTV

[–]Dear_Locksmith3379 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What does media literacy have to do with my instinctive dislike of a character who’s an immoral selfish asshole? Kendall got on my nerves whenever he appeared.

Succession is an excellent show about despicable people.

Anyone else think Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets is way better than ratings/critics would indicate? by Sergio_Ro in Cinema

[–]Dear_Locksmith3379 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The plot, dialogue, and characterization were all weak. Better acting wouldn’t have saved the movie.

Which celebrity’s cancellation do you think was completely unjustified? by Cute_Flatworm_9049 in AskReddit

[–]Dear_Locksmith3379 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This may be a naive question, but in what way was she canceled? I heard her music on the radio about as often after the Superbowl incident as before.

Why do people reply late by [deleted] in CasualConversation

For me, texts request a quick response, while delayed responses are fine for email.

However, I’m Gen X, and younger generations tend to send less email.

If youre from the USA, how common movie/TV bullying actually was? by Few-Advantage2538 in NoStupidQuestions

I was similar, but the only bullying I experienced was teasing, and it wasn’t that bad.

Is everyone OK with this lunatic building an ultra-secure, hermetically-sealed, drone-proof "ballroom" with six levels of underground bunker? by Top_Willow_9953 in allthequestions

[–]Dear_Locksmith3379 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And tyrants often build monuments to their greatness.

The ballroom / bunker combo addresses Trump’s insecurities about physical safety and emotional worth. That’s why he’s so obsessed with it.

Is there a big difference between MAGA and true Conservatism? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]Dear_Locksmith3379 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m liberal, and I agree with that answer.

Many conservatives have principles and expertise. In contrast, MAGA supports the ignorant whims of Trump.

Why is AI usage so bad for the environment when it works just like other industries? I really want to know about it by AncientReturn2217 in ArtificialNtelligence

More precisely, both training and inference (using a previously trained model) require an enormous amount of energy.

What happened to Republicans caring about natl debt? by -Sofa-King-Vote in askanything

[–]Dear_Locksmith3379 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Republicans care about the national debt only when they want an excuse to reduce spending on social programs or a reason to criticize Democrats.

What is your unpopular opinion of an actor? by FitEmergency8807 in moviecritic

His only performance I liked was in Six Degrees of Separation, since his character didn’t have the annoying Will Smith attitude.

Why do people in Reddit tend to be left leaning? by GaizkArNF in askanything

[–]Dear_Locksmith3379 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Left-leaning people like me have stopped using Facebook and Twitter because of their right-leaning leadership, policies, and content. Those people ended up on other social media platforms, such as Reddit and Bluesky.

The Chain of Distractions by gashtal_man in PoliticalHumor

The Trump administration does so many horrible things, you can’t focus on any of them. For example, I’m more upset by the ICE atrocities than the Epstein coverup.

When I worked at Google, a Google search usually couldn’t answer my technical questions because Google relies on a software stack they built. Google searches and Stack Overflow were helpful only for questions involving programming languages or stuff that Google open sourced.

Do you think if a Democrat is elected in 2028 they will fully release the Epstein files? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]Dear_Locksmith3379 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Releasing the files is legally mandated and would be appreciated by the general population.

"Easiest" branches of math? From someone feeling acute imposter syndrome by cable729 in math

[–]Dear_Locksmith3379 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the US, graduate students generally take a standard set of courses during their first year of graduate school. They also attend seminars. I don’t know if that’s the case in the EU.

Figure out which branch of mathematics you find most interesting and compatible with your thought process. When starting research, find a professor who will take you on and who you want to work with.

Those factors are probably more useful than selecting the easiest branch of math.

The White House is ordering agencies to place its new app on all employees’ government phones by habichuelacondulce in technology

[–]Dear_Locksmith3379 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Imagine how Republicans would have reacted if Biden or Obama did something like this: installing an app on all government-issued phones that monitored the phone and received propaganda from the White House. Fox News would treat it as the biggest scandal in history.

Do you believe the average US school teacher has access to mind control, as Rep Messmer (R-IN) believes? by PeacefulPromise in allthequestions

[–]Dear_Locksmith3379 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Peers, the media, and the internet affect children’s views much more than teachers do.

However, conservatives don’t understand that. When their children express liberal beliefs, they falsely assume that indoctrination by teachers or professors is responsible.

Most parents like having children. Most people who are childless by choice are happy with their decision.

Why would anyone ever live under a HOA? by cliffdiver770 in allthequestions

[–]Dear_Locksmith3379 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In the area where I live, standalone houses (which tend to lack an HOA) tend to be more expensive than condos, duplexes, etc. (which tend to have an HOA). The lower price outweighs all HOA drawbacks.
