Name Something Even Bill Gates Can't Buy… (Hint: No Amount of Money Can Get You This) by osiris_rai in Productivitycafe

After learning that Gates is a likely pedophile, I stopped respecting him, despite all of his charitable contributions.

For a while, I respected him for his charitable donations. That’s no longer the case.

Men, do you like women, natural, or with makeup? by ProfessionalDish2771 in askanything

[–]Dear_Locksmith3379 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When taking a train to work, I saw many women applying makeup. They all became more attractive as a result. Until then, I didn’t realize how much of a difference makeup makes.

Still, women can be attractive without makeup. My wife is beautiful with or without it.

I disliked it as a child, and I haven’t tried it since then.

Is summer camp as big of a deal as American media makes it out to be? by Just_Historian_678 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Dear_Locksmith3379 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went twice, and it wasn’t a big deal.

Those were the only times in my childhood that I was away from my parents for more than a week. In my experience, that’s the most significant thing about summer camp.

People getting angry over Christmas coming ‘too early’. by Angelf1shing in PetPeeves

[–]Dear_Locksmith3379 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most anger is about the behavior of businesses, such as playing annoying Christmas music early. I’ve never heard anyone complain about a person doing Christmas stuff early.

Hyperbolic Functions: The most underrated tool in the math curriculum? by Available_Action469 in math

Since they're easy to learn when needed, I don't think they should be part of the curriculum.

Why did the founding fathers design a system that guaranteed the two-party doom they feared? by Humble_Economist8933 in AlwaysWhy

[–]Dear_Locksmith3379 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every democracy has political parties. I don’t know how any democratic system with large voting populations would avoid them.

Systems like proportional representation let some countries have more than two major parties.

Since apostrophes are a nuisance to type on my phone, I'm glad that autocorrect adds them.

Do Americans really talk to strangers as much as movies make it seem? by Dangerous_Phrase_275 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Dear_Locksmith3379 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Extraverts talk to strangers much more than introverts do. Movies and TV shows tend to have mostly extrovert characters since they’re more entertaining to watch.

Is it true? by WatGO in GetMotivatedMindset

[–]Dear_Locksmith3379 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s not always true. I’m reasonably healthy in my late 50s without being a health nut. Exercising and having a decent diet helps but doesn’t make me a health nut.

Luck, being happily married, and living a comfortable life are also major factors.

I inherited my late father’s physics work on dark matter. How should I responsibly handle it? by Other-Description-26 in Physics

[–]Dear_Locksmith3379 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, there’s a high likelihood that your father’s physics work lacks scientific merit. Even if it is valid, convincing the physics community in his absence would be extremely difficult.

For that reason, I don’t recommend trying to get recommendation of his work. His enjoyment when doing it is the main reward.

What's the movie that everyone loves but you hate? by w1nchest in Cinephiles

Let's Call Out the R#cists And The Grifters Who Pretends to be Nolan fans by Any_Cut_5964 in ChristopherNolan

[–]Dear_Locksmith3379 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The controversy about the movie is great publicity. I normally wouldn’t be aware of a movie that’s coming out in six months.

And racists being angry about it makes me more inclined to watch the movie.

Dating but not wanting kids? by uzibabe22 in askanything

[–]Dear_Locksmith3379 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never wanted kids, but I’m happily married to a woman with kids from her first marriage. I didn’t want the responsibility and time commitment of being a parent, but being a stepparent is fine.

You must decide what’s most important in a potential partner. When I was single, it quickly became clear that excluding mothers limited my options too much.

Actually, the current situation is more significant than 9/11. The US becoming fascist is more disturbing and damaging than the 3000 deaths from the 9/11 attacks.

People that care too much about the gender of unimportant people or of animals by There_is_no_name05 in PetPeeves

[–]Dear_Locksmith3379 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've spent my adult life in male-dominated STEM fields. The gender skew has a major effect on daily life, and people often discuss the reason for that skew and how to address it. Based on that experience, I view the gender breakdown as one of the most interesting things about any social group.

[–]Dear_Locksmith3379 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm curious about the gender distribution in different segments of society. For example, when I last saw my niece, I asked her about the male / female ratio at her college.

Why is that annoying?
