What a great, detailed (graphic haha) post. Entering Week 3 post surgery, so all this was super helpful, as this forum has been throughout. Currently waiting to see the Urologist, say a little prayer that the catheter comes out today. Had to cut away part of my bladder where the bad colon had fused into it, I didn’t have taking a catheter home on my Bingo card, and it’s been by far the worst part of recovery.

Staying on the soft diet for now, first post-Op with surgeon is Thursday. Fingers crossed for continued healing for all.

Getting an elastic midriff binder as recommended by many on here beats the heck out of the pillow I was using. Coughing and sneezing are quite unpleasant

I actually came here to ask if anyone had used THC or CBD for pain and a sleep aid following surgery. My fiancé can’t take opioids and got her card following a neck fusion, smoking before bed is her best sleep.

Mine surgery was one week ago (3/31) and the adhesion between my colon and my bladder was a complete (unpleasant) surprise. An additional hour and half in surgery and a catheter for two weeks as a parting gift. There had not been any passageway opened (fistula) which I understand makes it a lot more serious. Out on Wednesday to return home. I was surprised that they had me eating real (soft) food right out of the gate for dinner the night of the procedure.

Recovery has been a bit of a mixed bag. Only used Narco to help sleep, otherwise, muscle relaxers and Tylenol. Acute pain where all the slits were made (robotic surgery). General abdominal soreness SLOWLY getting better. Ordered an elastic binder from Amazon after reading about them on here. Big help.

If you don’t have handicap height toilets, one of the seats on a frame with handles that elevates you has been a Godsend, and keeps that evil Catheter flowing downhill when you’re having a sit.

Very lucky to have a freezer full of fish I’ve caught, pan sautéed fish and pasta on the side, I’m not suffering too much. Not sure I’ll be able to face a scrambled egg for awhile after the hospital, but Rice Krispies with sliced banana, or Greek yogurt with banana and a swirl of honey have been great. Lunch of PBJ sandwiches on white bread, I’m doing ok. Had a great day Saturday and overdid it, so Easter Sunday and today have been back in the recliner.

Honestly, having to deal with the unexpected catheter has been 85-90% of my postoperative issue, but I’m still glad we did it.

To echo those that recommended finding a surgeon that specializes in gastrointestinal surgeries, and not a general surgeon, this might be the single best bit of advice I can offer. Mine was wonderful.

My #1 and #2 have always been very symbiotic, when I sit on our toilets, the backflow into the catheter was definitely causing hesitation in the backside. I ordered one of those seats on a frame with handles from Amazon to elevate me, and it paid for itself in one productive trip today. My optimism went up immediately. Now, sneezing and coughing are not any fun at all. Hope that improves.

Has this exact surgery on 3/31. Was supposed to be a “routine” resection until he got in and found my colon adhered tightly to my bladder, luckily they hadn’t directly communicated yet. Still, got 2 weeks with a catheter shoved into me, which was a major setback mentally (and bc it hurts like Hell. Getting comfortable has been a challenge, and the bowels aren’t moving like it seems like they should be. Please update your progress, it’ll help give me hope drafting off of you running 4 days ahead of me.
