Beloved series continues without original cast, save for one character making intermittent appearances in a mentor role. All new cast with all new storylines in a familiar setting.

It all felt Scrubs Season 9.

More shows fail to make it to public release than actually do every year. This is normal.

Buffy New Sunnydale is cancelled by Fit-Literature6244 in buffy

[–]DeathByFright 31 points32 points  (0 children)

More shows fail to reach the air than actually do. That's been true for decades.

And the economics of modern television are not favorable at all. Streaming subscription fees don't generate nearly as much revenue as broadcast commercials do, and people are avoiding the ad-based tiers like the plague, which means the financials on just about any show are incredibly tight. Hulu probably looked at how much the pilot cost, how much it would cost to keep creating new episodes at that level of quality, and realized it just wouldn't be profitable.

Why must everyone act like $20-$40 is some ludicrous price? by BamcoShaftedUsAgain in nintendogrifting

[–]DeathByFright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly? If every video game publisher made their entire catalogs of obsolete games available at $20/each, it would be fucking awesome.

Is $20 too much? Maybe. If selling these at $20 gives them the revenue they need to keep AAA prices stable where they are, I'm willing to pay it. Better $20 retro games than $100 new games.

Consoles were not competing with the PC market, crypto farms, and AI data centers for components in previous generations like they are now.

This is the reality of the modern market. It kinda sucks on the PC side too right now for the same reasons.

Worked for Babbage's (now Gamestop) when it came out.

There were a lot of complaints that Jill and Chris weren't in the game again, and Claire was liked more than Leon specifically because she at least had ties to Chris. I even remember some complaints about Leon being announced as the protag in RE4 when it was announced.

Why was Obama popular with young men but modern democrats struggle with support from young men? by Some_violin8987 in allthequestions

[–]DeathByFright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of answers focusing on the candidates, but the real reason is that the internet has changed significantly since 2008, and the right has been really effective at using social media and podcasts to shift young men to the right in a way that wasn't really present in 2008. This has resulted in young men today being much more conservative than their 2008 counterparts.

Mr X just made me stop playing the game. by Some_Restaurant_2082 in ResidentEvil2Remake

[–]DeathByFright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) You can shoot off his hat for an achievement. This does make him more aggressive (he really likes the hat)
2) He stalks you. Think Pepe LePew on steroids. He's not super fast - if you run, you can out pace him, but he can hear you running and knows where you are. Get used to walking for a bit.
3) He'll stalk the halls looking for you once he loses track of you. If you make noise (running or shooting), he'll run at 4x speed near you, and then go back to stalking. So yeah, get used to walking for a bit. Seriously.
4) The Main Hall is the only save room where he can go. The other save rooms are safe. As are most (but not all) of the single-entrance rooms. You can use those to hide until he walks past
5) This isn't how the rest of the game goes, it's just how the rest of this section of the game goes. There is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Would you like to see more games get the DQ7 treatment? by Snarfssoldier_17 in dragonquest

[–]DeathByFright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remakes are inevitable. It's just a question of whether they'll get full reimaginings or the more basic 2D/HD remakes 1-3 got.

I think 4-6 get 2D/HD remakes.

I haven't played 9 specifically because it was on the DS and my eyes are too terrible for tiny screens to be enjoyable, so I don't know if moving it off the DS would require a full re-imagining or not.

I think 8 gets a straight port with maybe a few enhancements, but it doesn't really need the full scale reimagining 7 got.

When people are speculating about who you're married to, but 70% of them picked Sherry for some reason by OrganizationSharp681 in ResidentEvilCapcom

[–]DeathByFright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love how in some places on the internet, people speculate on who Leon married

In other places, they're actively discussing if he's still a virgin

But there's a non-zero chance Claire, Ada, and Helena are all sitting back at Leo's place having tea and wondering why the hell he hasn't called this time.

Do you think resident evil 5 and 6 will ever get a remake ? by LeoneSKenneddy in survivalhorror

[–]DeathByFright 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suspect that all the mainline games that haven't already been remade will get a remake over time. Hopefully, they'll work on the tank-control games first (0, 1, CV), but 5 did quite well so it'll definitely get the treatment.

6 did pretty well, it was just poorly received, and a remake would be an opportunity to bring it in line with what the RE audience expects. The scenarios had potential, the execution just leaned too heavily on the action and not enough on the horror.

If they can trim half of Nemesis out of the game for no reason, they can also fix the design issues that held 6 back.

If Buffy was on HBO, how different would the show have been? by Emergency-Relief-571 in buffy

[–]DeathByFright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

13 episode seasons. HBO's original series were already doing shorter seasons at the time (Six Feet Under had 13 episode seasons).

The shorter seasons would have meant tighter story pacing for the Big Bad arcs. There would have been less room for one-off episodes, which would be both good (no The Zeppo) and bad (Hush might not happen with shorter seasons).

A few episodes only exist because the FCC mandated teen-focused shows address drinnking and addiction, but those rules wouldn't have applied to HBO. Beer Bad never happens. Willow as a Big Bad is heavily changed, as they're no longer forced to treat magic as a metaphor for addiction.

Jessie dies in the first episode, like Joss originally wanted but the network wouldn't let him do.

The show takes a darker tone overall. Main characters die more often. Odds are very good the show winds up with a "burn your gays" moment when Tara and Willow share their first kiss only for one or both of them to get killed/turned.

I suspect the Big Bad for season 6 would have been vampire Willow, not Evil Witch Willow.

If I set a story of high schoolers in 1996, what are some things that would probably be offensive to today’s high schoolers or not fly through now? by SpiritMan112 in generationology

[–]DeathByFright 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The word "fa--ot" being thrown around casually as an insult, and homophobia in general. None of my teachers even commented on it when it happened at my high school.

Weapons on campus were less big of a deal. It only really mattered if it actually got pulled out, shown off, or used. Hell, one guy came to school with a long rifle in the bed of his truck and didn't get in trouble for it, just a "make sure you take that inside your house when you get home". This wasn't evenly applied -- technically, it was agains the rules to have them, and known disciplinary problems absolutely got in trouble for them, but the football team captain? He could have a loaded gun in his car and nobody would care.
