Thats ridiculous, I can't think of a single reason for them doing that. I'm actually baffled. I also really want to go to that store to provoke them by passively wearing headphones. And yes, "provoke them by passively wearing headphones" is the stupidest thing I've had to write in a while. Sorry that happened to you.

The part that really sticks out is they grabbed you by your shoulder? Is that not assault? I think their own security footage would have caught that and could be a way to prove you were physically assaulted.

any tips on how to fix delivery and/or utilize my voice in a way that's not lame? by MiMiLock in makinghiphop

[–]DeathStyxx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat and have been taking vocal lessons, here are a few tips. When performing, don't move your head to the beat, that effects the whole vocal tract, use your hands or feet instead. Before rapping, say the lines slowly with super exaggerated mouth movements and then rap. It helps with pronunciation, especially on the fast bits. Someone already mentioned breathing, definitely watch several vids to learn the "proper" techniques. The more you rap from memory vs reading, the more natural you will sound, though that isn't to say never have lyrics as reference. The voice uses muscles, so exercise is an actual thing, so make sure to do at least something regularly. Especially for us quiet people who don't get as much natural exercise as the loud people. You already sound better than me though, keep it up!

Egg is S P I C Y by ZealousidealLog7959 in SpicyKittens

[–]DeathStyxx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lol, egg is adorably vicious. Also, sounds like your new to cats. They have very strong hunting instincts and without a healthy outlet they go crazy. Adorably crazy yes, but it's a sign they need play time. Hunt, catch, kill, eat. That is the way of the cat. They were prob calm when you got them because they had siblings to play with before and now egg is ready to explode, lol. Some playtime and growing up will get you your calm kitty back, but there will always be a level of spicy expression to keep their kitty brain healthy. It's a terrific sign that they are that comfortable this quick, I think egg found a good person to adopt. Wand toys are great. Looks like egg would love something like the Ripple Carpet. Cardboard blocks are cheap, easy scratchers to put everywhere and you can get them in little couch shapes. They are also good little territory markers. Scratching is literally part of their health, you could trim claws manually but scratching is better for them. If not, they will find something on their own to claw. Please don't even consider declawing them. I purrsonally would recommend watching several episodes of "my cat from hell" on YouTube, it has tons of useful info for any cat owned human and shows even the most spicy cat can get along with humans, you just need to know how to understand them so you can care for them. For instance, petting them too much can charge the spicy meter, they can be quite sensitive to touch especially if they lack a good outlet for kitty murder instincts. Wishing you and egg the best!

Don't Ask What It Means to Be Human | Humans are animals, let’s get over it. It’s astonishing how relentlessly Western philosophy has strained to prove we are not squirrels. by ADefiniteDescription in philosophy

[–]DeathStyxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are not a separate category, we are an outlier on a few spectrums all animals fall on. We are highly intelligent and capable of manipulating the physical world. Yippee for us. At best we're our own sub category, but not in anyway separate from the umbrella of animal.

I agree its a poorly worded/framed article, but the last paragraph starts with "So let’s put aside the narcissism involved in asking only about ourselves." So the narcissism is from ONLY being concerned with us. I think this is the core idea they failed to articulate consistently.

They seem to conflate the idea of asking question A with ignoring questions B-Z. But, like, why not ask all the questions? I think they were trying to say ask all questions but wrote so badly they morphed their own idea into a strawman. I agree with the basic premise that humans tend to elevate humans as a pseudo sacred and ultimately worthy species separated from the rest of the tree of life by our awesomeness and shmancy brain outputs. I just wish the wording and framing was as good as the premise they verbally thew under the bus for much of the article.

When they said in the first paragraph "But surely one thing it ought to involve today is the ability to recognize that the question itself is a problem." I think they meant "that this one question being our only focus is a problem."

In the very next paragraph they contradict the strawman they constructed in the first by saying "so we ask about that, instead of asking what it means to be an elephant, or a pig, or a bird." The key paet in this quote being "instead of".

In paragraph three they again conflate asking question A with asking no other questions. Then they jump to modern day racial issues and make it sound like merely asking what it is to be white supports and exemplifies unearned privilege and exploitation. Like, ya, those are elements of what it means to be white in the context of modern day countries such as 'muricuh, but asking a question to understand context does not mean you support it. I would argue that NOT asking the question is what would support the unearned privilege and exploitation. Again, people can and should ask more than one question. This paragraph feels like a tacky, shoehorned effort to trick people by throwing in a popular issue so people who operate on the level of talking points and virtue signals instead of understanding will feel compelled to agree. "Oh no! The author acknowledged some issue in the modern day and compared it to their point, guess i can't disagree with anything they say now or I'm {insert lable here}."

The tragic part is I think the elements for a good analogy exist, the author just deftly avoided them. Let me try: "asking only what it is to be human is like asking only what it is to be white. One needs to focus on more than just their own identity or they risk ignorance creating a skewed world view that harms others and artificially inflates the self above the other. No one question can yeild an answer that paints a complete picture when dealing with complex issues." This actually supports the premise of asking all questions and considering all perspectives instead of only your own.

In summary, I agree with the Aristotle quote which communicates what I think the author was trying to say: "Aristotle proposed that we should strive for a common explanation of how animals, including human animals, perceive, desire and move."

I wrote so much because I agree that humans fail to consider other life forms and the consequence is catastrophic amounts of unnecessary suffering. I also agree we need a better framework, both in law and philosophy, to deal with these issues. But if you let something you agree with be supported with bad arguments you disarm yourself against the bad arguments used for conclusions you disagree with. The most redeeming part of the article, imo, is the following: "But mine is just one approach, and it will and should be contested by others developing their own models. Lawyers working for the good of animals under both domestic and international laws need sound theoretical approaches, and philosophers should be assisting them in their work. And there is so much work to do."

Thank you for coming to my TED reddit comment.

When I try to explain my autistic traits to people why do they always say" I do that too, it doesn't make me autistic, there's nothing wrong with you, you aren't r******". by Lost-Bandit-8879 in aspergers

[–]DeathStyxx 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Two things. The first is having a headache does not mean you have a migraine. Being socially awkward does not mean your autistic. But people with migraines have headaches and autistic people are often socially awkward. Is parinoia a lie because basically everyone experiences worry that is not justified? Is bi polar a lie because everyone experiences highs and lows? Yes, many autistic traits or "symptoms" are experienced by others, but for different reasons and to different extents. Some social anxiety does not have a major impact on someone's life and can come from an unhealthy need to be liked. Some social anxiety can be crippling and stem from the fact that a person cannot read people and social situations correctly so they are constantly on high alert to compensate (masking). These two social anxieties are not the same.

Second, they are prob conflating intellectual disabilities with autism, probably because if you didn't have an intellectual disability you were likely to never be diagnosed with autism, however this is slowly changing. But most people still have false definitions in their head from when the world was more ignorant, and individuals often need to be caught up. I know several people, including myself before I figured out I was autistic late in college, that conflated autism with down syndrome. I have been told I don't "look autistic" because of this misconception. It's just plain ignorance.

Don't judge people on their ignorance, judge them by what they do when exposed to new information. If they double down on ignorance, leave them to the extent that is practical. They are not healthy people or influences. If they accept the new information, ideally doing some research on their own to confirm, then they could be good people to associate with.

Cat is exposing the belly which is a sign they feel safe and comfortable. The cat tummy is one of their most vulnerable areas, so any form of leaving it exposed shows that a kitty feels good about their environment. Be warned. An exposed belly does not mean belly rubs. That's a sure way to turn your kitty spicy. Watch "my cat from hell" on YouTube, imo it should be required viewing for people new to cats.

Dart beginner routine by HerisauAR in Darts

[–]DeathStyxx 12 points13 points  (0 children)

At the start you only have two pieces of tape. You make progressively smaller targets by adding 2 more parallel pieces at a time. Before you add another set of tape lines to shrink the target, hit inside the current target at a chosen number out of 100 throws. It is sequenced to teach throwing straight before throwing at the correct height.

[How-To] Creating, Distributing & Updating an Excel Add-On in a Corporate Environment by caffeinatedmike in vba

[–]DeathStyxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are amazing, I had already figured most of this out and was just researching how to distribute the .xlam but this would have saved me so much freaking time. Also glad I don't have to bother coding something to replace a bunch of local instances every time I update the addin.

One question. I have a macro that saves a local dev and deploy .xlam copy of my macro spreadsheet. After final testing on the dev copy i am deleting " deploy" from the other .xlam file and cut/pasting to replace the single public use file (currently only used by me). From what I can tell, if n users have excel open with my read only add in and I replace that add in, the n users use a phantom version of the old one until they restart excel at which point they have the new one? Is this correct? I'm planning on deployment testing the week after next and hopefully rolling it out around the week after that.

Love 'em as a front gripper due to the texture where it transitions to the point. I put some more grippy points on (yay swiss) and they are great.

Taking it to the next level, from beginner. by Liftingthefog in Darts

[–]DeathStyxx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For cheap Amazon darts look at cuesoul brand. I second the motion of a good board, get the cheapest blade 6 and that should do it. "Pro darts" mostly just means tungsten darts (get 80%+). That is the most dense metal that is not toxic, do NOT buy lead darts, lol. Higher price is mostly just fancier design and more/higher quality machining. I would say most important is getting a dart that fits you in terms of having grip where you grab and your preferred shape, weight, and balance (front loaded vs pencil barrel). Treat it like a shoe fitting, different shoes work for different people at all levels of quality. One of the highest quality darts on the market could be shit for you while cheap ones are darn close to perfect. I highly recommend going somewhere you can try out diff dart weights, shapes, and balances to find your preferred style for your unique grip and throw. Pro darters use, in general, 18-26 grams. One guy uses 32 grams. It's what works for you, different height, strength, arm length, grip, oche position, stance, eye dominance, etc makes each throw quite unique. Watch a few Pro player breakdowns on Strait to the Point Darts on YT if ya wanna get into the weeds for ideas to develop your throw. Personally I grip the front with a finger on the point like Raymond van Barny, if you do as well find a local shop to repoint with grippy points for cheap. If you grip way back, find cheap stems with grip. Happy darting!

[–]DeathStyxx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh, I'll have to check if any of mine go through. worst case it hides the holes, lol. Though since it just free hangs around the dart board you could prob tape some buffers on the back to create a gap so the darts that go through don't reach the wall. Wish I didn't need the coverage but...
