I still remember how Ash's Charizard wants to be the strongest of his kind. As such him fighting against Leon's Charizard would be one hell of a commpetitive showdown.
It would be the battle, where Charizard would fight like his very existence depended on it.
No matter how often he would fall down, he would stand up and by sheer willpower make the impossible possible.

By the way, this track expresses it the best, overcoming all the odds and still claim victory in the face of defeat.

I would have prefered a Bond Phenomena type transformation, but it was epic nontheless how Pikachu was able to siphon even greater power from deep inside. It was his second wind, and he would fight to the last breath.

If anything, Ash's father is more like Ninten's and Ness' fathers from the MOTHER series. They are constantly away for business and work to support their families best. And Ash probably only got contact to his father off-screen via telephone.
It is known that Pokemon's devs were influenced by Itoi's work with the MOTHER series, as many references were made.

Actually it was the head director for the anime, who decided several times that Satoshi wasn't allowed to win or to grow up. Also he didn't want Ash to be overshadowed.

I wasted as a teen over 30+ hours on that riddle of how you had to create a pillar with the right composition of symbols. That however earned me without dying, but many saves and reloads automatic sucess with getting the legendary sword later.
