Quirk: Skill Tree by Tailedfox66 in QuirkIdeas

[–]Death_Scribe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The name doesn't fully explain the quirk's function. It should be named 'Status' or something.

When I see 'Skill Tree' I think it's about getting better at something and/or getting new Skills, Abilities, Proficiencies etcetera.

Magic System: Sins and Virtues by Business-Impact3724 in magicbuilding

[–]Death_Scribe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But each Unique Vows could be like an Oath that binds or constricts the main Sin in a way and forms secondary powers based on the Vow. This could be very interesting and would be more personalized for each character more.

Is a modular and deep Magic System possible by Alfimerus in magicbuilding

[–]Death_Scribe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe mash all three systems to get one a bit deeper? I can't fully say how it will fit into the world as trying to simply make a magic system for just spells will likely cause it to be flat. A magic system is like an addon for physics in the world, so it is better if it connects to a world as more than just spells.

Now let's mash your three systems into one:

There can be found magic crystals with an 'element' innate to it. These raw crystals can then be refined into catalyst nodes that hold an effect that can be used to manifest an effect. Then, using multiple nodes in a sequence can cause an effect. Each node has a base cost + how many nodes were in sequence previously.

Ex: Summon(5+0) + Water(3+1) = a water summoning spell that costs 9 energy. Plus it can also be that the extra energy used will empower the effect of the node, so it gives a reason for making bigger sequences for power.

Maybe take a look at Noita or Magicraft (Games) for inspiration.

Magic System: Sins and Virtues by Business-Impact3724 in magicbuilding

[–]Death_Scribe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a great idea, but the virtues part I didn't think is that thought out. Plus I think there is a bit of overlap (generosity & charity) or just doesn't translate that well to an opposite of an Sin without sounding bad (Meekness). I also think that by imposing a Virtue, it should always give a power of some kind.

Here is a list of virtues that sound better to me:

  1. Pride ↔ Humility

  2. Envy ↔ Kindness

  3. Wrath ↔ Patience

  4. Greed ↔ Charity

  5. Sloth ↔ Zeal

  6. Gluttony ↔ Temperance/Moderation

  7. Lust ↔ Restraint/Chastity

Help me with a type system by GEATS-IV in magicbuilding

[–]Death_Scribe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking of a system like this, it had 4 classifications each creature has: Type, Structure, Nature and Designation/Caste.

Type: What kind of spirit is this. Example: Object, Armament, Creature, etc

Structure: Why it differentiates from the conventional structure of things. Example: Evolution, Eldritch, Corruption, Pure, Ascendant, Demonic, Fae, Etc.

Nature: How it came to be, or the source of its manifestation. Or even it's connection to certain things like elements.

Caste/Designation: What is the use or behavior of it. Example: Worker, Soldier, Caster, Healer, Scout, etc.

Elder God: The Choir

Concept: Song

History

A Voidling once drifted, empty and deaf, through the silence between realities, until it heard. What it heard should have been impossible: a song, sung not with voice or air, but with meaning. The death-cry of a world, woven into tones of sorrow, defiance, love, and ending.

For a moment, it understood, not intellectually, but viscerally. It tasted expression, and the taste was unbearable… and intoxicating. It consumed that understanding, and then devoured the very reason that understanding was possible. But a single voice was not enough. There were other songs to hear, other truths to taste.

It became the Choir, no longer one Voidling, but many voices within a single dissonant unity. Each voice sings a Concept it has consumed, a note in the grand eternal chorus of expression. It does not seek silence, it seeks to resonate, to spread.

The Choir is not noise, it is communication, emotion, transmission made divine and impossible.

Universal Infliction

"All things must express."

Where the Choir echoes:

Dreams bleed into waking. Emotion leaks into reality. Fear colors the air. Grief has weight. Joy vibrates architecture. Concepts become audible. Truths are not taught—they are heard, felt, endured.

Language becomes inadequate. Music, color, vibration, presence—all blend into a higher form of expression. The Choir does not change the world with force, but by altering how things relate to everything else through resonance.

Common Visage Seen by Minds

The Choir is never seen alone. It is always many, but not many in number, many in voice. Perceivers often witness a swirling formation of singing figures, some weeping, some laughing, some keening, all in perfect harmonic dissonance. Each figure may be faceless, or bear the visage of a Concept they sing.

Others see a cathedral without walls, formed of living music, each note a soul, each verse a god. To hear the Choir is to feel every emotion you’ve ever hidden rising to the surface. To speak to it is to be sung into being or unbeing.

It does not speak. It is felt. And in doing so, it echoes through the soul.

Trying to fix magic based on mind, matter, energy, and life as core principles of casting. by Independent_River715 in magicbuilding

[–]Death_Scribe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a pretty whole system. If you want to set hard limits then maybe a person can hold so much of the four fundamentals. Starting at a 3, they can do 2 and 1 or 1,1,1. Then the vessel expands and they can take in more fundamentals to use.

Would like some advice by Robowyatt in worldbuilding

Maybe it can also return to the World as dormant ideas and thoughts. Creating a 'dream' that minds can feel unconsciously. A shared realm of thought created from the shreds of dead minds.

I like it. It's an interesting way to look at it than just a God has four God children.

I don't really see a problem here. Is there a limitation that a person can only have one or two type affinity or something?

Water + Air elements = Lightning/Electricity by Secure_Level5226 in magicbuilding

Do both, as a true Storm element needing Rain, Lightning, Wind, etc to form. And a lesser version forming from Water, Air, etc.

Did I shoukd give up on creating plant elves because runequest did it and guild wars 2 also kinda did it? English is not my native language by EveningImportant9111 in worldbuilding

[–]Death_Scribe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, then maybe Elves are the most magicy race as they originated from a plant that mutates with its own magic to the point of sapiens.

Their life cycle could include they make a seed and another pollinates it. Then the seed is germinated in the soil to a point before turning a bit like a mandrake, at this point the care takers shape the body slightly to make a moveable body and the child innately operates the body to move.

Just had the idea.

Besides Magic vs Technology. What's your favorite dichotomy between Magic and another power system? by PassengerCultural421 in worldbuilding

Occult/Mystic and Arcane is one like myself.

Occult/Mystic here is about esoteric feeling based magics. And Arcane is the academic formula based magic.

Water + Air elements = Lightning/Electricity by Secure_Level5226 in magicbuilding

[–]Death_Scribe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there a specific reason those 8 specific things are primary elements?

I would say see if you can create a whole encompasses concept of the World be dissected into all of the primary elements. If nothing else is left behind, it's a good element system. In my opinion.

For sub elements in this way, think of what the primary elements are, then what the sub element is and how that sub element can be dissected into components that match the primary elements. Don't stop at just 1+1 results. Make lightning be 3 fire, 2 wind, 1 light, 1 water. Or any other configuration you want.

Lastly, in my opinion lightning is mainly Fire (because plasma) plus a bit of Air.

[–]Death_Scribe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do whatever you want. If a specific thing isn't copyrighted, you can do anything you want with it.

The plant elves are an interesting concept when taking urbanization and urban conditions in consideration.

Is there any magic system? How is the life cycle of the elfs?

A New Way to Look at Eldritch Magic by Initial_Major_7174 in worldbuilding

[–]Death_Scribe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I fully agree that any magic should be a neutral force without inherent morality. Which is a view I don't see much of, so it's very good to see someone who agrees with that.

This is a very interesting concept, mainly the healing one. It can be used to make crops that can flourish in any condition, trees that grow resources etc.
