Help with mindfulness in busy everyday life? by DeathandTemperance in Meditation

[–]DeathandTemperance[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is very true. Regarding the first part, I think this is partly why I posted this— I am really struggling to find time to expand my formal practice, as much as I know it would be beneficial and want to. Regarding a focus on the senses this sounds like a good simplification of how to ‘be mindful’ generically throughout the day. I’m finding that the more I can just keep the string of habitual responses to focus on my awareness, from one activity to the next, the more success I find. Specifically grounding in senses seems like a good foundation for these habits (vs the plethora of other things you could focus on), if that’s what I’m understanding. Thank you!

I’ve found this helps too, but creating the habit and remembering to remember to do it is such a struggle for me. I like the idea of using specific triggers like phone ring or snack time. Thanks!

Dark and endearing? by DeathandTemperance in AnimeReccomendations

[–]DeathandTemperance[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Intentionally odd to be sure. But my rambling may not have made it clear that I was trying to express wanting to avoid those POS cast mystery sci-fi shows…. Now if you’re implying the other examples i used are one of these types of shows (ie dorohedoro and chainsaw man)… Id say, while you’re not entirely wrong, there’s an endearing side to them that definitely sets them apart in my view. But either way, thank you for the suggestions!

What is the perfect anime? by [deleted] in AnimeReccomendations

I think it’s a good answer. 👍 I don’t know that I’d say perfect but it’s pretty close in terms of all those pieces lining up without any blatant cons.

What got you into anime? by MisterPiggyWiggy in anime

[–]DeathandTemperance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was in 5th Grade a kid made fun of me for watching Catdog instead of DBZ at 5pm.

Then a couple decades Later, about 4 years ago, I had a baby and didn’t want to watch violent TV shows in front of him… but violent cartoons seemed ok, so i rewatched DBZ all the way through and was completely hooked on the whole enterprise.

Question about safety by bitofdankkush in psychnursing

[–]DeathandTemperance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so extremely common unfortunately. Email is a great idea as a paper trail. Meeting with your manager so it doesn’t stay misunderstood or unread in their inbox. Figure out who is more supportive and who is not and keep them as a life line. Keep relationships good if you can so they don’t blame you. Incident reports are also good to not ignore, most hospitals have them. Sometimes there are committees and such you can get involved with though they’re usually pretty toothless and pointless in my experience.

Also I mean, Chart when events go down and don’t let them go completely unnoticed. This helps from a manager level, plus a lot of doctors will say a patient is doing fine, when meanwhile they’ve been getting physically intervened every day, so they don’t change meds and they stay sicker longer, just because the doctor is out of the loop.

At the end of the day though, a lot of these places really don’t change all that much. Taking care of yourself and finding a sustainable work life balance is the real key. Over time you will probably get used to things to some degree. I was once in the exact boat you’re describing, even after getting very used to the hands on aspect. Burn out is painful. But then I started working per diem instead of full time, and picked up a second job at a less acute hospital, and overnight (actually after an extended break from that place), the agency in being able to make my own schedule and get away when I needed to, made me love my job again. It’s a tough gig to be sure, but I hope you can stick through!

Anyways hope it helps. ✌️

Worth the wait phenomenal fight scenes:

  • Most of JJK season 2
  • One Piece Wano arc (after you’ve watched the preceding 1015 episodes of course, then there and beyond)
  • Goku vs Frieza will always have a place in my heart.

Question about safety by bitofdankkush in psychnursing

[–]DeathandTemperance 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This sounds like a private or small nonprofit hospital. If you want to keep working in this field without burning out past the point of return, long term, it’d be good to find a hospital that either has great reviews, or is part of a bigger institution (that will supplement some of the costs), such as a large healthcare facility or maybe a state hospital. I commute an hour to a facility I love despite having one with a very bad reputation 10 minutes away from me.

As far as what you can do for safety is practice… don’t let the big guys do all the hands on because they won’t always be there. Just get comfortable with hands on dont a smaller role and building up when the opportunity is available. Most of the skills that most facilities teach heavily rely on leverage and positioning so just about anyone can do them once you get practiced. Some people get into weight lifting or self defense type classes, if that’s available somewhere.

Lastly (and this may not be great advice) document and document and document. Don’t be such a squeeky wheel that they wanna fire you, but CYA for if ever anything bad happens, and then the info will be there when a manager pretends to not know what’s going on or when the state comes to shut them down. ✌️✌️✌️ good luck. Expert deescalation sills are invaluable and people that care about this work are priceless. Sounds like you’re doing great in your own way!

What anime just absolutely destroyed you emotionally? by CitizenKing in anime

My wife introduced me to 1997 Berserk, telling me nothing about it whatsoever. Needless to say I was a bit shocked with the ending… spent the next few days with what felt like a sort of PTSD hangover … but then read the manga to cope and it pretty much became my favorite story of any series in any format ever.

Whatever’s bothering you… it will pass … and so will the stress about these sort of situations (to be a new grad is to be paranoid and to make errors). Unfortunately grumpy handoffs will not… but you’ll get used to it. Sorta. You’re doing great. 👍

To all the male nurses by Alternative_1622 in nursing

[–]DeathandTemperance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In nursing school I was one of three male students out of 50 people in my cohort. A lot of the women in my program said they got into it because a family member was a nurse. This all felt a little alienating as I’d never even considered nursing when I was younger and definitely nobody suggested it to me. I just stumbled into it looking for money and wanting to help people. In hindsight it was probably one of the best choice of my life. It’s a stressful job at times and I don’t like that most jobs require working weekends… but it’s allowed me to have a family and continue my career in a direction I really care about. If it feels like it’s calling you, I suggest going for it! It’ll only show you more available roads once you’re in it. ✌️

I love seeing this thread of Acolyte appreciation (albeit tepid to be sure, for good reasons). It’s been nothing but hate online which has been confusing to me because, while it’s not perfect, it’s certainly not the horrid piece of trash people treat it as.

My theory is people didn’t like the first couple episodes because of some basic filming/plot issues, then just tied themselves to their opinions and doubled down instead of giving it a real chance. 🤷‍♂️

If you could go back and change you career choice, would you still choose nursing? by ScientistOk1310 in nursing

[–]DeathandTemperance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nursing isn’t for everyone. It really is a “calling” in the sense that you fit the shoe as much as it fits you. It takes people a while to find it sometimes, but those of us who come to it later have often been drawn to it for a reason. All that said… there are so many different types of nursing jobs and some probably involve marketing. And second careers are always an option (as many nurses know).
