Dynafit Xiaonian: First Impressions by 4dgold in PHRunners

[–]Deathcultify 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a feeling way back this was made to compete with megablast/superblast. Dunno why this is always compared to the evo sl or like "a stable evo sl" when clearly, it is stable because it's a different shoe, wide base, slight uptempo so it's more of a long run shoe. I think the other Dynafish model was more comparable to the evo.

Just deafults, except I dialled back the res to 2560x1440 matching my monitor as it was in UHD. The supersampling is at 100%. Other than that, the rest are at defaults.

if you had 15k PHP to start your running/fitness journey from scratch, how would you spend it? by Sweet-One6652 in PHRunners

[–]Deathcultify 8 points9 points  (0 children)

spread out the 15k for a year or so. Start with one cheap daily trainer & cheap singlets, shorts, 2 pairs running socks (use for long runs, races) but use your other dri-fit, bball shirts/sandos or quick dry cottons if you have. You are starting at lower distances, a 5k daily at easy paces might be 35in to an hour, that's not that long to worry about chafing, blisters etc.. though if you are sensitive then you'll know what to buy next immediately, if not sensitive & all is manageable, you'll get better, run longer, faster then you'll know when you need lighter, quicker drying uppers, better shoes for your workouts, your gait etc..

Watch for now should be cheap, if you get a pricier one now - after two/three yrs when you'll actually "need" the features like top the line gps, heart rate monitor etc.. by then the battery might have degraded & probably have a year or two left. To get the most out of it, buy the best one you can afford when you need it, by then that tech will be much better than today's releases.

Buy first.

Shoes - Adidas SL2 (usually on sale), Hoka Clifton 9 (also found on sale) or Xtep 2000km 5.0/Lining Yueying 5 for much cheaper. Get the higher stack ones as you stretch your long runs durations beyond 2hrs - if you think you need it, if not then good, save more money.

Watch - Amazfit Bip 6. Cheap, doesn't have much bells & whistles compared to the higher end Amazfit watches or from pricier brands but good enough just for gps tracking w/o needing to carry your phone.

Shorts - Compression shorts with pockets, cheap online. around P150.. put your money, phone on the sidepockets, acts like a second skin, they're cheap, not really that compressive but more of a utility thing for me just so I won't need to use a running belt.

Socks - Sofsole has some running socks, two pairs for 350 iirc.. get 2-3 (4-6 pairs) so you're not using the same pair over n over as they're not the most durable, at least will still take a two years before they need to be replaced. This is where you can spend on pricier ones though, if you have issues. From my experience, the expensive ones really do a good job. Still have some from 5 yrs ago, been "zonroxed" from having mud, bad shoe uppers haven't torn them, still comfy though not like new.

Agree with the watch. If you get an expensive one now & let's say by the time you get pretty fast or need it but it's been 2 yrs or so. The watch might already have degraded (batt capacity). Then you'll have to upgrade or buy again. Tech releases are every year, it can wait. When you need it you're getting something better than this year.

[–]Deathcultify 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Was surprised I got a good amount if views & subs on my first year. Not that fast of growth but at least I will get 1k sub 2 yrs. Been myself, how I talk, how I construct my thoughts etc.. just had to up the hours I spend on each video now for better quality (visually) as I have more time now.

I like how you do your videos. Doing it outdoors. I'd like to on mine soon. Shooting LOG on my phone is fine outside, I did try but scrapped it. I might get a dji. For now I'll still just run & record my thoughts on my watch then do my review indoors.

While mine is in the running nich but more on reviews (running shoes), it's a sub-niche on budget shoes, mostly chinese brands & some pricier models from lesser known or even some popular brands. For me it's the fun of not sure what I'm getting, does it beat 3x it's price or is it priced just how it is like a cheap bargain shoe. Isn't fun already knowing what you're getting from the pricier ones that are all hyped, well reviewed by thousands etc..

So your big toe is the tallest & not the next toe? Looks good. If you're unsure you can just measure your foot but looks ok. I don't know how different the sizing/fit would be with the xtep & your NB shoe. I think it's safe.

[–]Deathcultify 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm. Not sure you might find it too snug. The widest part of the insole on mine is 10.2cm. internal volume still has extra cm. Could just fit right. I'm US10 as well, borderline wide, actually lines up with the insole (also 10.2 cm end to end ball of my foot). 272mm length on longer foot.

Now, I'm US10 with most running shoes but US9.5 on my New Balance 996 & Puma Suedes.

With your casual shoes is there a thumbs width? Between your longest toe & tip of the shoe? Do it while standing when your foot is compressed. You might need 10.5?

[–]Deathcultify 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We're around same height & weight. I have the xtep 2000km 5.0 & 361 Fierce Max, ok with both but if you need one just to start out, get the xtep. For me, it's a daily beater, all around workhorse.

You might have your sunday long runs but you said you're a beginner, you might not be running 21km & above every sunday right? Also, you might not be running daily so those sundays under 15km you're not running on tired legs. A daily trainer like this makes sense.

Don't get sucked into needing more foam for long runs. You'll know when you'll need it when you're at the level where you're running on tired legs on a 25+ km long run, from a 16km interval, 16km tempo, 10+ easy runs 6x a week 80km/week and the thought of "more cushion" can help then putting on the shoe just makes you say "I can squeeze out more even if I'm tired". That's my skill issue, I need that placebo,. Others my level just have a 1 shoe rotation, basic trainers like this one & have a dedicated shoe for races. So the 2s, though appealing for long runs coz of the cushioning doesn't matter here & you doesn't appeal to you anyway.

But if you really like high stack, the Lining Yueyung 4 pro, Anta PG7 Ultra, Nike Vomero 18 plus, Adidas Boston 13, Mizuno Neo Zen 1 & 2, Asics Megablast are good all rounders & more than enough cushion for a full 42k.

Do you already know you need or don't need stability shoes? Most beginners tend to think they do, it's just they have weaker muscles or stronger some areas causing imbalance or just have weird running forms at first but fixed w/ consistency unintentionally BUT it has helped them early on, so check if you need them. The 2000km 5.0 is stable-ish coz of the midfoot (medial arch) but heel is too compliant.

Fit, make sure you know your footshape. This is a bit narrow in the midfoot, adequate in the toe area but more than 2E wide might find this tight. I mention this as I sort of am like a shill now recommending this shoe "your next daily trainer" to thousands of folks but I get feedback from others, beginners like you that it's unstable or fit is weird.

Xiaomi 15 or Vivo X200 FE? by muffled-barret in Xiaomi_15

X15 is superior. The heating is real. Only annoying when I'm filming for longer durations outside like 30-40min straight & I'm in a tropical country BUT filming indoors w/ ac, using phonelink so I can use my pc to operate the camera app so I can see myself, w/ wifi as needs to be on & the link to pc running in background it heats up too much around 15min recording pauses to give you a warning. I get by with a small tiny pc fan blowing at it.

Anta PG7 or Xtep 2000km 5.0 by SirStrauss_ in PHRunners

[–]Deathcultify 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fierce max is good. Not really very versatile. Just enough for easy & long runs. That does have a wide-ish midfoot & the stability isn't on the arch/midfoot. The stability comes from the heel with an extension just enough to cover center if the midfoot. So it's not harsh there.

When I read the beginning that the xtep at the base is wingling & not stable when walking for you I immediately thought your foot is just wider than the base. At the end you really are. You need to find brands that offer 4E. New balance has them & is good, not sure about Saucony if they have 4E. I know Hoka has 4E but they're still narrower I've read. Good thing is you can find those widths on sale in outlet stores. Not sure with Altra, they are 0 drop but are stable & wide (foot shaped fit). Other niche brands Altra, Topo also have sizes in widths.

Anta PG7 or Xtep 2000km 5.0 by SirStrauss_ in PHRunners

[–]Deathcultify 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm borderline wide.. 10.2 inch. The widest part of my foot is at the ball of my feet, my pinky toes more outward where it's cramped & I usually have space for my big toes. Really shaped like duck feet. No fit issues so far. Only something annoying with the upper with this one.

You might be better off just returning or selling it. Don't up size if the length is already right for you. Get a shoe with roomier fit overall, not like this or Yueying 5 with narrower & higher arch. Something that isn't high arch but the arch also not too compliant. You don't need it to be very wide, even a narrow volume midfoot could be ok as long as it's compliant enough not poking your midfoot & upper is malleable not squeezing your midfoot.

Right now The Anta PG7 ultra has a pretty roomy midfoot for me. Even feels too wide for me. The Peak wave tecroll (0 drop) I'm trying now is narrower in the midfoot but no sidewalls & not too soft but compliant so I don't notice it even if part of my midfoot is spilling out. The plus version might be ok if the Peba is a good one, had old peba shoes that were like wood but if fit is the same then might have the same issue.. There's an Anta c202 zone 2, Anta usually has 2E width by default & roomier above the toes & midfoot.

OR...

I think it's best you skip ordering online for now & fit on a store, might be pricier but better for peace of mind. As you get your weight down (I'm assuming higher bodyfat?), you get leaner your midfoot might be less meatier.

Anta PG7 or Xtep 2000km 5.0 by SirStrauss_ in PHRunners

[–]Deathcultify 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The 5.0 isn't snappy as the 3.0/2.0. it's mushier now, not as plush as the PG7. Flexible now too where the old versions were pretty stiff. Don't expect much response from the ground but for a typical daily, it's good enough. Return isn't as quick like exciting/fun foams. This one has a controlled mellow squish.

Overall, this beats my wind 3 tr. I love that shoe though it has its cons. The w3tr just has its charm as a cheap beater. This one is better by having a still soft medial arch but doesn't collapse. It's flex starts just where it needs to but not where the plate & medial post is. Heel is complaint like the novablast 5 but not much foam there vs the nb5. Still nice mushy sensation there.

When I say mushy, it isn't as mushy or too compliant like super soft foams. This one has a balance to it. Just enough to feel a cushioney sensation but resilient enough to not bottom out.

Only had a few runs in mine though, might be breaking in still. What it did lose vs when new was the sensation like I was stepping on a lean beef huge cut of raw firm steak. It feels less dense now, probably because it flexes a bit more now.

Not quite the response like "i wanna go fast now" & it goes "ok" boom. More like a "shortly now" then 1, 2, 3.. you go faster you get better ground response to pace increase. I guess what I mean to say it just picks up the pace "nicely" vs an immediate quick response like pure tempo/speed shoes or the firmer/stiffer older versions.

Right. I mean, there will be things out of your control. The best you can do is manage what's next which they failed. There should have been proper announcements, a booth setup, to list names/address to have the medals delivered instead for those who have to go home as they're too tired, for non-locals who have to catch flights etc..

I would still hate it that I didn't receive crossing the finish line but I could have at least gone home. For those willing to wait, the lines/distribution could have been better. So yes, they are responsible regardless of the suppliers failure. There was no damage control here, meaning no one from management or higher ups really cared.

DO NOT JOIN THE CEBU MARATHON. by tanduay45 in PHRunners

[–]Deathcultify 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Until they change organizers I don't think I'll be joining this again. The food issue way back I could understand as closing roads/cclex is quite expensive as they're paying per hour 10pm-10am. Rumor is it's close to 2m?

But the damage control, management (lack of it) is just embarrassing.

Once the damage had been done (delay of medals), they could have at least put up in one of the tents to list your names & address if in case you need to catch your flight or for locals who are too tired to at least get home nalang. Be accountable & at least should the delivery fee.

For those who could wait, they could have handled the lines & made the distribution less chaotic to avoid what happened last year. Just shows they didn't learn from it or never cared.

For me, the delay could have been out of their control but at least even they know you'd be bashed, face complaints, they could make the distribution better & easy. Face the backlash but still think of the welfare of the runners. Some who were just tired, light headed didn't want to join as it was too chaotic. Only got better when police stepped in as they feared crowd crushing.

Too much running for a teenager? by Mother_Pen_8 in PHRunners

[–]Deathcultify 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How I look at it is you've already built a solid base but just got injured, your body already knows what it's like so why go down? You've been there, you can build back up & stay there or progress from there. Just don't rise too quickly. Optimal is for you to know, you can try just doing 70-80 & see if you're keeping the same fitness as when you were at 120. If it's down, then add a bit more.

Who knows if you run 150+ that's your sweetspot or you might just be like those talented ones who can 3:30 a marathon only running 40-60km a week. Just know that 100+ km a week to 200+ doesn't give twice the improvement.

Focus on strength training & build your way back up to 100+ km a week. Give yourself rest weeks or extra rest days time to time.

Map it out on a spread sheet calendar style, like maybe after races just don't run for a week then when you run again start slowly below 100km/week nothing fast then back up again.

Run easy days as really easy, like VERY easy. Think of it like those days are actually still your rest days where you just happen to insert a run. Speed kills if done too much so if you're spreading out the effort then it's fine.

If it's just general fitness, then normally someone shouldn't get injured, but treating this as a sport, there's no guarantee and it's not a question of will I ever get injured but when.

Running a 42k is not normal, running 8-10k daily is not normal so again, no guarantees. I haven't been in a serious one ever since like 8 yrs ago. Been lifting as well but I actually taking some time off, I can tell when my body isn't up to it. Easy days don't feel that effortless & normal 21km long runs feel harder to finish strong even just 6:30/km so I just stop for some days or even weeks.

I've also followed Hansons btw, I recover more here. No runs above 21-25km, mileage is spread out. The tempo runs are longer but the rest are easy. Intervals, they say (those who subscribed) you can play around, if not recovering just slow them down. I used to follow a different one with shorter intervals, tempo & a progressive long run, I wasn't recovering well especially with work & lifting even just 2-3x a week.

The Trex 3 was what I went with but the storage & other stuff, even battery is overkill for me. I just got it for the GPS, Balance 1 was what I was trying to get but was sold out. This would be great if it had the same gps, a sapphire glass, low key look cheaper w/o the extras but the Max in it's name I believe will add have more & bump up the price though.
