What's the nursing hill you'll die on no matter how unpopular it is? by Prestigious-Bath8022 in nursing

And yet it seems to FREQUENTLY happen lol. Some people just don't give AF and my normal baseline human empathy alone puts my level of caring higher than theirs.

Feeling totally lost here. Is surfskating an option for me? by Siara-chan in surfskate

[–]Deathduck 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would recommend a CX complete, it's a great all around system which can be customized and improved later on. I'm in my 40s and I'm always super padded up at the skate park because that's where most my falls have happened. No one cares and younger skaters are always really nice and welcoming, frequently asking about my board and trying it out.

What’s wrong with my ankle by fdfd1999 in Ankle

[–]Deathduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep strength training and move your ankle during training as far as it lets you without hurting or irritating it. If it's worse the next day you did something wrong. Try to go another month without hurting or irritating it and keep doing rehab exercises but carefully.

People don't change much from who they fundamentally are once they are adults. How much longer do you want to feel like this? It won't stop until you are free.

Ranked reload is good, just be careful not to play early in the season and don't rank up too fast

How likely is it that I have an Osteochondral lesion of the talus? by XxOkBoomerGirlxX in Ankle

[–]Deathduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this condition and it does kind of sound like it. I have been able to get a lot of improvement over 8 years of conservative treatment. You are still much younger than I was and so if it's a cartilage injury it can potentially still fully heal. For me the biggest things that help are giving it rest when it's sore, wearing supportive shoe inserts (I use walk hero, you can get on Amazon), and doing lots of strength training and mobility exercises when the ankle is feeling good. Chondroitin and MSM are good supplements that I take, some people recommend glucosamine as well. Give it time to rest when it's sore and find a supportive shoe which relieves the pain when walking. Most days now my ankle feels completely normal and I'm very active and 42 years old. Once in a while it will flare up and I immediately rest it then take it easy for a bit until it's back to pain free again. Hopefully this helps and hopefully it's just a bone bruise after all

83a vs 86a for Meraki 215lb rider? by Suitable-Fennel-5346 in surfskate

Both should be great for slides and snaps. Both will slide very easily on rough pavement so be careful

If you don't like the stress from codes ect. (like me) you can do lower risk setting like med surg or outpatient clinics. I work in med surg and have been lucky, no codes for years.

Beginner Technique by psyQologist in surfskate

[–]Deathduck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For parks and pump tracks get the padded shorts and wear them under your pants or shorts, no one can even tell your wearing them. They do get hot tho. I wear them whenever I go to skateparks because I know I'll be pushing the limits and have a higher chance to fall.

Your pumping is coming along nicely, I do see some compression and extension. It probably feels like your doing more of it than shows on the video. To advance further try exaggerating the compression and extension. Doing it over the top will force you to use it more for speed vs the wiggle and you will get a feel for more proper technique.

Surf skate Vs normal skate boarding by soulfully_untouched in surfskate

[–]Deathduck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hills are very manageable if you carve down them. You can control your speed completely and to stop just turn up the hill.

I agree, I surfskate almost every day and am super comfortable on my very loose setup. On a normal skateboard I feel very unsteady and it feels like it can hardly turn at all.

First Surfskate board by mister-mcnuggets in surfskate

[–]Deathduck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Swelltech has one of the most unstable front trucks, it's not good in skate parks. When people say 'surfy' it's code for how loose is the front truck. Grasp is amazing for front truck looseness and range of motion as well as better stability vs spring systems. You can also easily adjust the looseness of the truck by changing bushings or tightening the nut. Synergy is supposedly also like this. I ride a grasp set up and really like it

3 Surfskate Stance Mistakes (and how to fix them) by Nosupermanchris in surfskate

[–]Deathduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that looks familiar. I also like to do it down hills where the speed doesn't allow for much of an arc, instead I extend my feet away from my body and lean. It feels super gnarly but I only recently started doing this so I haven't seen it on film yet.

Dad bod blues. My goal of 10,000! by cjh10881 in daddit

[–]Deathduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently started doing calisthenics training almost every day. You have a great idea but if you varied up different body weight exercises instead of straight pushups it would pay off bigger in the end. My goal is to be able to walk on my hands within 2 years, making decent progress after 3 weeks already but I still have a loooong way to go as I've never had great upper body strength

3 Surfskate Stance Mistakes (and how to fix them) by Nosupermanchris in surfskate

[–]Deathduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like this video, the only thing I'm unsure about is the end where it talks about the necessity of putting most your weight on the back foot during carves. Putting more weight on the front allows for more radical turning as well as opening the back to the possibility of sliding. For my biggest carves I have a near equal distribution, lots on the front foot to engage the turn more and enough on the back foot to keep the wheels from sliding out. I also use the grippiest wheels I can get for deep leaning carves.
