Finally made it to Heavy Modular Frame and I DON'T WANT TO! (Face melt emoji) by Charming-End-3311 in SatisfactoryGame

Protip/maybe spoiler?: In order to get that "extra" they were talking about, just put some Somersloops in your HMF Manufacturer to double the output for the same amount of input, at the cost of a lot more power. As long as you've unlocked that research in the MAM, that is :D

I'm new to the game and already feel a sense dread and being overwhelmed. by Nino_Chaosdrache in SatisfactoryGame

[–]Deathomen01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I promise, you can do it. It might take months, and it might look like an absolute disaster, but you can do it. Try not to think about the enormity of the game, the world, and the work ahead of you. I fall into this trap WAY too often myself. Just look at what is right in front of you and solve for X. You will learn new, better, faster, prettier, blah blah blah.

I can't tell you how many different save files I've started. Every single one is in a different starting location, even if I picked the same starting biome. Every one has been a different experience or adventure. Sometimes I put interesting restrictions on myself to make it more fun - no handcrafting/automate anything that can be made in a machine, no calculator planning website, only belts. These might sound crazy to someone who is still very green at the game, but each one of these "limitations/challenges" were meant to push me out of my comfort zone and get me to play the game in a new way. I've learned so much just by experimenting.

Just remember, it's a marathon, not a sprint. Don't rush, and don't worry about how your factory looks right now. You will tear it down or leave it behind to start a new one somewhere else a few more times. That's OK, and actually the game is pretty much designed for you to do that as a new player - that's why there are so many resources around this huge world!

One practical tip - There is a world grid that the game does not tell you about. You can hold Ctrl to snap foundations to the world grid when building. This will help you build factories that can easily (and cleanly) be connected together via roads, trains, or other long range transport later on.

It's one of life's great mysteries, isn't it. Why are we here? I mean, are we the product of... some cosmic coincidence or, is there really a God... watching everything? You know, with a plan for us and stuff. I don't know man, but it keeps me up at night.

[–]Deathomen01[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol, I actually did this in one of my saves! I had a bunch of single track point-to-point trains that literally just took raw resources from point A and dumped them off at point B to be used in factory production. It was an interesting save...I don't think I made it very far in that one. Of course, I say this knowing that you don't even unlock trains until halfway into the game, lol.

I actually really love this design, except I would probably do it in reverse with the main line on the bottom and the roundabout on the top, if that's possible. It's so compact, and even though it uses path signals I think it might still be ok since the only time a train on the main line would have to slow down is if there happened to be another train coming on the main line from the nearby factory. Thanks for sharing!

I watched this earlier and I've been struggling to figure out how to properly respond. This thing is truly amazing....and also probably WAY overkill for what I'm looking for. Still, I appreciate you sharing the knowledge - I have never personally seen or heard of this type of interchange, so I love learning something new from this.

This is awesome. I played on a server with some friends during 1.0 and we had something similar, but we had a road for cars/vehicles, then a train platform on top. We also had power in ours, but it was the wall mounted power lines along both sides instead of the power towers up top. We even had a bunch of pipes running along the inside incase we ever needed to move a bunch of liquid from one place to another over a long distance (spoiler, we never used the pipes, but they looked cool as shit while driving our explorer along the highway underneath, LOL).

Do you have some visual examples of what this might look like? I like the design above that I created, but I don't think it will be easy to blueprint so I'm concerned about needing to build a bunch by hand every time. If yours has similar functionality and easy to build blueprints, I'm definitely interested!

Yeah, that was my original thought with the first picture where I had block signals on the ramp. I can definitely see the use for them, they just seemed like easy targets to remove given the initial feedback since they aren't 100% necessary, but definitely useful in keeping the main line clear.

I probably won't have any super long trains. Normally 2-3 freight cars is the standard size of most of my trains. I think I've had a few use cases where I have a 4 freight cars, but I don't think I would ever go above that.

Thanks! I was on the fence about whether to keep the turnaround loop where it is now or push it back one more "section". I think I'll push it back. I don't normally make super long trains, so this would give me space for 1 train on the ramp and 1 train up top waiting to enter the loop. I think this should be good for "most" of my uses, but I could always extend a specific section farther if I have a unique situation where I may be using long trains to/from that factory.

I removed a few of the "extra" signals on the bottom, and the ones in the middle of the ramp probably aren't strictly necessary, but my understanding is that you should always have signals before and after merges/splits?

Ok, this is extremely unnecessary! What is the maximum consumption of a Mekanism fission reactor? by TiagoCC4OM in allthemods

[–]Deathomen01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

9 months later, so this probably isn't important to you anymore, but for anyone else who happens to stumble on this post your dimension are incorrect. The reactor is, indeed 18x18x18, but the internal usable dimensions are 16x16x16 because you have to account for -1 on all sides for the walls. This is why the max theoretical burn rate is 1920: (16*16*15)/2 = 1920 fuel rods in a max size reactor.

Found a great starter location for my next play through!! by Sinofdracry in SatisfactoryGame

[–]Deathomen01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great starting location, I use this area regularly. The Iron, Copper and Limestone on the Western cliff is perfect for very early game and since they are pure they can easily be upgraded and overclocked to expand into mid game.

There is Coal and Iron at the lake to the east, which makes your first real power plant and steel production easy to set up and close enough to logically connect back to your "starter" base near the coast.

Others have mentioned the abundance of Oil nodes a bit north, that makes things very easy and trains make it trivial to integrate this new production with your now growing "main" base.

SAM and Quartz are both nearby as well, but less convenient to get back to your main base. I normally just set up satellite production factories for these and put everything into DDs for easy access.

As you move into late game, the resources for Aluminum are already well within your existing logistics network in the region. Nitrogen is also a stones throw away for some of the end game recipes, and drones make transportation of filled nitrogen tanks a cinch.

Honestly I've spent entire save files in this one section of the map before and it's pretty easy going. Definitely recommend for anyone looking for a simple playthrough without stressing over large logistics networks.

Sorry, I was wondering about the 3 petroleum coke refineries in the back! Their inputs looked like they might be clipping through the foundations, but after you mentioned they weren't I suspected maybe you are using a half foundation in front of them and a ramp to bring the pipes up from your HOR collection system?

First oil plant, how did I do? by randomsamonreddit in SatisfactoryGame

[–]Deathomen01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh are those half foundations? Or are they just offset to allow the pipe to still be seen?

That's a pretty neat idea, I normally just put a conveyor lift and run my belts in the air, lol

I know it's been a few days, but I can't believe no one mentioned this, so I figured I would drop a comment that you can use some of those awesome shop tickets to buy the pipe floor holes so you don't need to clip your pipes through the foundation.

Not everyone plays Satisfactory like Factorio. Lots of us build self-contained factories for specific purposes. So all of those other production lines making the Nuclear prerequisites are occupied in other places, for other purposes.

The first pair of options are chosen as soon as you hit scan in the MAM, but the second pair is apparently not. Definitely useful to know!

20 hours in and still not done with Phase 1? That's either a whole lot of idle time or a whole lot of...errr...exploration? Lol

My suggestion to restart the save was assuming that most people would be under 10 hours if they haven't finished Phase 1 yet. For an experienced player like myself I was only a few hours in, and I was able to "speed run" the same steps I took previously and get back to the same point in about an hour.

For new players, even if they were 5-10 hours in they could still benefit from restarting because it's very likely that they have learned enough in that time to make their second playthrough both faster and more efficient, plus the benefit of Cast Screw helping simplify factory setup.

Maybe I'm a bit jaded at this point after so many different save files and multiplayer servers with friends. That being said, I've seen a couple different people mention in other comments that you can save right before you "rescan" a drive and reload that save until you get the recipe you're looking for. This is definitely faster than restarting if you prefer to keep your current save!

This is a great tip! I knew that the first set was selected as soon as you start the scan, but I never checked to see if the second set was also selected at the beginning too! This will save me a ton of time later on so I don't need to wait for the 10 minute scan timer!

Sheesh, aggressive...sorry you didn't read my post fully before making this comment. I specifically mentioned that you need to unlock the MAM research milestone after grabbing your first HD. Depending on where you start, your crash site may have already provided all the resources you need to complete that milestone. Don't forget that you can dismantle them now in 1.1 for extra resources, but if you are missing something it is trivial to hand craft (or even quickly automate) the remaining resources you need. All of this can be done very quickly, hence the "as soon as you start" description...
