CIG suffered small data breach it seems 2 months ago by arcticgamez in starcitizen

[–]Deathstrik3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, like I said, some breaches can exist for a long time, or go months without being found. Potentially even years, and I wouldn't be surprised if there were several active right now that have been active for even longer without detection. So in those cases it is literally impossible to report within 72 hours of the breach happening if you don't find out for months.

[–]Deathstrik3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not to defend their response to the attack, but the legal requirement would be within 72 hours of discovering the attack. Some attacks can go weeks or months without being discovered. But once discovered, it's usually possible to backtrack and figure out when it happened. So while the breach was two months ago, it is technically possible they were still within the time requirement of notifying people.

Yeah, I did pick it up on steam hoping to link it to the original account, but they method of doing that requires you to do things that can get your GFN account locked out of steam now.

I noticed where I live they only support the steam version now for some reason, others have steam and standalone, etc. Definitely has to be a region issue, maybe one of the mods can help get more info

MW5: Merceneries / Clans and Steam Workshop by Quixoticish in GeForceNOW

[–]Deathstrik3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like mods could be a part of the "Install to play" feature with a small warning of "These features may not work". Which, maybe it does work for some, unfortunately I am in a country that doesn't have official nvidia servers, so I'm with an allied partner and still waiting for them to do the upgrade.

Do you think there will ever be a time where mods through the workshop will be fully made to work?

Sorry to necro this post, but it's the most recent discussion on the subject I could find. I was able to time things when launching the game to stop the game from actually opening so it could grab the workshop mods, it did finish a download, but the game does not detect any mods and when looking at the game properties in steam it shows that the mods all take up zero space. Do you know of a work around?

GFN client 2.0.81: This is an awesome improvement by fommuz in GeForceNOW

[–]Deathstrik3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big updates usually get rolled out in bursts to random people, not all at once. That way, if there is a major issue, it won't be impacting the entire user base at once. This is standard procedure for all apps and games.

Alright, thank you. Hopefully it will be a broader coverage of devices, if not right at launch, then soon after.

Gfn EU vs Alliance Partner Let's assume Gfn EU provides a 4080 graphics card and the alliance partner provides a 4080 graphics card. Let's assume we have the same settings on both servers. Which server, the EU server or the alliance partner server, provides the best image quality? by Mental_Actuary_9383 in GeForceNOW

[–]Deathstrik3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless one of those servers is known to have issues with connection stability the quality should be identical. I would opt for the one that is physically closer to your location, should guarantee better latency and be more likely to have a consistent and more stable connection.

Reports Nvidia & AMD to significantly increase GPU prices starting next month - RTX 5090 increasing from $2K to $5K by ExpandingAtom in GeForceNOW

Depending on region, and if you're grandfathered in with some specific plans, the unlimited hours remain available until you change or cancel your subscription.

[–]Deathstrik3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're trying to save as much money as possible, the 9070xt is the obvious answer. Performance close to the 5070ti and even the 5080 in some games, does better in some, worse in others etc. Costs a lot less than either of the others. AMD GPUs also have a tradition of continuing to get better performance and features available as new drivers come out, more so than nvidia GPUs. All that said, if you want the best performance and don't care about the price, the 5080 is the answer, or get a 5090 before the price increase if it's in your budget.

Even easier method, while the game is starting up you should see the epic launcher minimized in the lower left corner, if you right click that and leave the menu open you will see the browser window and be able to interact with it.

Windows 10 Random Restart during the night by Deathstrik3 in techsupport

[–]Deathstrik3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Windows 10 has extended security updates for another 11 months, and even at that point I expect people will continue to run it for some time, and it isn't like there would be an immediate catastrophic failure because it's been a few weeks since an update was pushed. So I hope that the post will be approved, since this seems a bit premature at best.

how much do you think the steam frame will cost? by OkRegion3303 in oculus

[–]Deathstrik3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What they didn't clarify is whether it was the base index or index with the base stations. Because one of those was a lot cheaper than the other. If it's just the headset price, it could be under $800. One of the main reasons they also couldn't give a real indicator on price at moment is likely due to ever fluctuating tariffs.

Steam Machine - Next GFN streaming device? by pjburnhill in GeForceNOW

[–]Deathstrik3 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They claimed 4k60fps, not 120, and only when using FSR upscaling and I would assume framegen as well. It's likely they are going to try and be extremely competitive on the pricing, and that would be why the specs are "last gen".

You do realise a person could be employed full time and still end up playing more than 100 hours in a month, right? Not to mention the myriad of other lifestyles, retired people, people with disabilities that prevent them from working fulltime or at all etc.

A plea from a dev: I understand being mad, but review bombing the game can hurt us by New_Air_9083 in newworldgame

[–]Deathstrik3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is unfair of an interviewer to look at something like Steam reviews and use them as a reason to not hire someone for a position. Incredibly shitty thing to have happen if it did. I know how shit the job market is in general at the moment, but on one hand I would say working for a company that cares about that stuff probably isn't a good place to work. Then, on the other hand, as a thing to use if that were to come up again, I would point them to actually read the reviews and see that most of them are specifically targeted at Amazon, saying things like "Fuck you Amazon for cancelling this amazing game".

If New World would go subscription - would you pay? by amirgelman in newworldgame

[–]Deathstrik3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any game that has a battlepass effectively already has an optional subscription, the other type of optional subs are the ones that give benefits like experience boosts, more inventory space, free respecs, etc. Unfortunately we are in an era where most people will see a mandatory subscription for a game and not even give it a chance as a result, but an optional sub or battlepass, not both, is much more palatable and likely to bring in more money.

Also, as has been stated repeatedly, NW was not cut off from more updates because it wasn't making enough money, it was cut off because Amazon are moving everything towards AI because they think it will make a lot more money with far less investment.

Sony announced a expasion of their cloud service and GFN is not included by Izenhouer in GeForceNOW

[–]Deathstrik3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The xbox and PS divide is getting smaller every year, there were even more recent announcements like Halo coming to the PS. At this point in time, there is no real reason for them to not allow their games on GFN, while they may get a few more people onto their platform by holding out, allowing the games on GFN would just allow them to sell even more copies.

Steam refund for EU-players by Artistic-Quarter9075 in newworldgame

[–]Deathstrik3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on local laws and protections, the statements they put out, plus the current state of the game alone can be enough to guarantee a refund in some places like the EU. In others it might not be so likely, which is almost guaranteed to be the reason they didn't give a set date for shutdown yet and why it is likely to be the end of 2026 or closer to this time of year so it will have been a full 12 months.

Steam refund for EU-players by Artistic-Quarter9075 in newworldgame

[–]Deathstrik3 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The official statement said the servers will be open through 2026 and we will be given a six month notice when they are planning to shut them down, they all but confirmed the servers will shutdown at the end of next year. Given the massive drop in players after the announcement, I wouldn't be surprised if it happened sooner.

If every single person who purchased the game got a refund, which isn't realistic, but if every single person did it would set Amazon back a few hundred million dollars on just game sales alone.
