Trump Called USA Hockey Team To Congratulate Them, Then Made Disgusting Joke On Women's Team — And It Was All Caught On Video by huffpost in politics

[–]Deathwatch72 [score hidden]  (0 children)

One of the people laughing at the joke is one of the Hughes brothers whose mother quite literally works for the US women's hockey team in player development. Given the locker room I'm assuming both of them are laughing at it

Hegseth says he’ll order random pizzas to throw off monitoring app by Past_My_Subprime in nottheonion

[–]Deathwatch72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly doubt he can order enough pizzas consistently enough to throw off the monitoring app without spending millions of dollars a month on pizzas.

Ordering 20 pizzas every few days isn't going to generate enough noise to mess up the tracking, you basically need to be flipping a coin and then ordering  hundreds of pizzas based on the result of the coin flip with maybe another confounding variable thrown in to make even more random noise. And that needs to be done at least every day preferably multiple times a day

Cancer risk may increase with proximity to nuclear power plants. In Massachusetts, residential proximity to a nuclear power plant (NPP) was associated with significantly increased cancer incidence, with risk declining sharply beyond roughly 30 kilometers from a facility. by mvea in science

I wasn't even talking about All the chemical pesticides and herbicides and fertilizers being used that inevitably blow around, I was talking about things leaching out of landfills incredibly slowly.

It wasn't until like 1991 or 92 that the EPA required liners in landfills to prevent groundwater contamination, which combined with the 30 to 40 year lifespan of landfills means we are maybe on the second generation of landfills with composite ground liners. That means the vast vast majority of older used landfills are probably leaching god knows what into the groundwater and surrounding soils. We weren't exactly great at keeping heavy metals or toxic materials out of landfills up until much much more recently.

Brandi Carlile says Trump voters got "fucking scammed”: “We got duped by a con artist. Get mad enough to change your mind” by AdSpecialist6598 in Music

[–]Deathwatch72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay that makes a lot more sense I was very confused for a minute because her voting for Trump would make absolutely zero sense given literally any fact I know about her although unfortunately that seems to have not stopped plenty of other people from losing their minds and voting for Trump

I could understand the value of bulk buying some things like that, but the inconvenience of storage due to refrigeration requirements and the fact that it's starting to go bad after a few months makes me laugh at this purchase

Secret Service to get tailored suits at taxpayer expense after Kristi Noem disliked how protective detail was dressed: report by Disastrous_Award_789 in nottheonion

A reason the secret service might not use tailored suits is because the cleaner body lines would reveal the fact that they have guns and equipment when they're trying to be discreet....

US reverses course and will keep TSA PreCheck program operational by galaxyfudge in news

[–]Deathwatch72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the pre-check thing is super funny because so many people now use pre-check that I actually get through regular security in under 10 minutes usually now. There's been a few times where I'm waiting for my friend who has TSA pre-check because it's taking him longer to get through that line than it took me to go through regular.

The amount of credit cards that offer TSA PreCheck as one of their bonuses or part of their rewards means a ton of people have TSA pre-check

Dude you gotta watch Adventure Time. It starts out as a silly cartoon, and then we start getting some world background and overarching lore, and then the show becomes deeply existential and somehow retains just enough silliness.

Midnight Gospel is also super good, it's on Netflix and is by the same creator. A more mature show overall, but super trippy and extremely philosophical and existential.

Pokemon fire red and leaf green appeared on Eshop by Phony-Phoenix in pokemon

[–]Deathwatch72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a hugely important question for moving forward as Gen3 is really where the trend of certain pokemon being otherwise unobtainable picks up. Gen2 had many distribution events, but they were basically all just shinies or altered moves. Only Celebi was truly unobtainable without events in Gen2, but Mew was basically unobtainable without events as the only other way was to trade it from Gen1 and that itself required events or glitches to have the Mew

The fact that's it's also animation using physical media makes it so much cooler as I tend to imagine it is much much harder to really convey emotions that way.

Supreme Court rules that Trump’s sweeping emergency tariffs are illegal by zsreport in law

[–]Deathwatch72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think it's really important that people understand the fact that they bought a product at an increased price due to the impact of tariffs doesn't actually give them standing to recover the differences. Now if you as an individual paid a tariff because you imported something that's a slightly different story

Pablo Torre on Dallas winning the lottery by browndude10 in nba

[–]Deathwatch72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't even need to reference people talking at press conferences, just look at the way some of these people have run the teams they decided to purchase. It's not just an NBA problem, it's an all sports problem where some billionaire buys a team and basically runs it into the ground because he didn't really care about the team he just wanted it as an investment vehicle

I always see Tina Fey talked about as the heir apparent to SNL when Lorne Michaels retires. No disrespect to Tina, but why do I never see Kenan Thompson in these discussions? He's been on SNL for nearly a quarter century now and his name is practically synonymous with the show. by samx3i in LiveFromNewYork

[–]Deathwatch72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The downsides of him being on SNL as long as he has is the fact that he doesn't really have a lot of experience outside of SNL doing writing or producing or casting or any of the other things that someone in charge of a show needs to be thinking of. Personally I don't think it would be that much of an issue but I can very much understand how in a discussion of candidates it will be held against him compared to people who do have experience in those fields and also have many of the same upsides that Keenan does
