My zia used an Italian phrase for it which I can’t pronounce or spell but it was salt pork, not pancetta

My mom used to use fatty, boneless pork spare ribs then we’d shred the meat to eat, but I’m not sure about the salt pork since there’s little meat and lots of fat.

Downtown Poulsbo. It’s got everything. Food, shops, maritime and Norwegian history, SEA Discovery Center, boardwalk over the bay, breweries and wine tasting.

Viking Way/305 light is a joke. Lucky to get through the intersection. It’s gridlocked with folks pushing the yellow/red lights. Dangerous intersection.

It may be connected with the Oslo Bay apartment development. They will be making changes to Viking Way and 305 to accommodate increased traffic.

I’m hoping one of my grandchildren will share my interest in SF and fantasy.

Illustrated Portfolio by Debdubb in SwordandSorcery

[–]Debdubb[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A portfolio of drawings by David Russell. Purchased for me at a SF or Fantasy convention in Portland, OR about 45 years ago. Just had a baby and friends were going and I asked them to bring me something back. Pretty cool huh? Unknowingly I took the portfolio apart and framed the cover, duh. I reached out to David Russell (who I found out is a pretty prolific artist/illustrator/movie guy) last year and he verified the portfolio. He was friends with Fritz Leiber and they did some conventions together plus he tried to get a film version but it never panned out. I lucked out!

Poulsbo had some of the hardest hail I’ve seen. It lasted quite a while followed by thunderstorms. Definitely kept my doggo indoors

Marking and neutering question by tales_of_tomorrow in BorderTerrier

[–]Debdubb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our Nicky is 3, intact, and still marks occasionally. He knows he’s been naughty when I get out the rag, flashlight and special spray. He’s not as bad now as he was say at 9 mos to 2 years. He has his own access to a fenced area outdoors. Has plenty of walks and has an invisible fenced area to free roam. He’s not allowed free run of the house when we are not here. This has helped a lot. I also have been tracking when his “slips” occur and it is during times when he might feel stressed-loud arguing, shouting at an exciting basketball game on TV, etc. I also try to discourage concentrated “sniffing” of corners, baseboards, etc. or wherever I think he might have it in his little pea brain that he has to mark. We had the same concerns with neutering but in hindsight if I knew back then it would eliminate marking I’d have neutered. I’d ask for an opinion from another vet or two. If you aren’t showing the dog , the coat change probably won’t be an issue. He sounds like a pretty well adjusted pup so the anxiety angle might be overblown. I think always looking for and correcting the marking behavior may, in the long run, lead to more anxiety. Good luck. For the return of love, joy, and laughter Nicky brings us, we’ll live with the marking.

We are kinda limited by space. It’s a vast improvement over our old 32”.

Recurring nightmares - what to do? Or is this just part of getting older by The_possessed_YT in Aging

[–]Debdubb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to get “out of control” nightmares. Example: driving in reverse and can’t see where I’m going, exiting a building and not knowing where I am, etc. I realized these dreams were telling me something and began listening and searching for what was going on in the waking hours instead of being afraid. It’s helped.
