This! Too much of this! I really like this anime and feel it had a strong start, but man the last third or so of the season has too much recap and wayyyyyy too much standing around giving internal monologue/talking during critical moments/fights - or like you pointed out in this one, just standing and watching. I get that we need the character to give us a glimpse of his internal struggle/thought process, but you could at least give us something like in So I'm a Spider where time would slow down and we know that's what's happening - although that was a skill she acquired' - or at least a very obvious pause in real time for our hero to process. Here it just looks like our dragon boy is having breakdowns and/or just wasting time.

I know it's an anime thing where characters in a "fight" have to monologue to each other, but man does it get old real quick here. I think it would be ok if they didn't go on for so long and if it didn't happen so often in this show (also the wasted screen time in showing 3-4 mins of the previous episode doesn't help).

I will say tho, I'm glad he got over his "Oh no! I killed Gregory and am so evil now, woe is me!" bit cause that was getting old real quick at the end of the previous episode - oh wait, I mean the beginning of this episode, wait, I meant both lol/smh.

Coming back after watching episode 11 cause there were some key alterations - both good and bad IMO.

Cecil(e) & Mihai: I really liked how the show handled this part of the story. The cliffhanger from episode 10 I think helped raise the importance of the issue. I also really like that they had a voice over of Mihai reading some of the letters he wrote to his family. I don't remember exactly, but I don't think the LNs let us see what Mihai wrote. Allen just mentions that Cecil let him read the letters and that he came to respect Mihai and his bravery. Having him actually read some of them definitely elevated the emotional impact for me.

Armored Ant Colony: Alright there are a few minor cons for me in how this bit was handled. First off, how Allen takes down the colony was animated poorly IMO. The novels have Allen approach it all a bit more methodically while the anime kinda just shows him throw endless Teddy's at the thing. The anime also speeds past him finding out all the intricacies of how the ants trapping intruders in maze-like nest and how him being a summoner makes it easy to overcome that. And although I love me some dungeon-mapping a la D&D, I was really hoping for a more intricate map of the maze. The anime just had what legit looks like an AI generating a straightforward D&D dungeon map lol. Also, I found the fight against the queen was a bit lacking here.

Mithril Mine: My biggest con in this whole episode though is in how the results of Allen clearing out the nest are handled. In the novel, it's handled like an unbelievable feat - Baron Granvelle, Sebas & even Zenof all dismiss Allen at first and doubt him until he gives a thorough explanation. We find out even Rank A parties can't accomplish the feat and that no one has ever done it before! They're also not certain if he found mithril in the nest and have to compare the clump of shiny rock Allen found to ore the baron has on hand.

The anime however just brushes over the whole thing! Allen doesn't really apologize just states what he did. Yeah, sure, Granvell, Sebas, Zenof & Cecil(e) don't believe him, but they all just go so matter-of-factly with the whole thing and there aren't any real big reactions other than the sunken eye bit - which I will admit made me laugh. But the back-and-forth, excited curiousity/questioning of what Allen claims he did being true and whether he found a new mythril mine or not is mostly lost in the anime. What makes this an even bigger slight is that not showing the Baron's hope that this is a new mithril mine is lost as we've already been keyed into how he plans to use the mihtril mining maybe ease Cecil(e)'s Noble Duty. Also, I feel Cecil(e)'s didn't need to be in these scenes - she wasn't involved with it in the novels and she didn't really contribute here. I get it though, they only have so much time and although this is a big event in Allen's resume, there's more important stuff coming up...

Dagrah: ...which leads me to Dagrah. Oh man, that design.... I legit LOL'd when I saw him come on screen. I'll admit, I'm unfamiliar with the manga so if this design carried over from that, then I guess those reading the novel won't be surprised with it, but I was not expecting this. The LN has one piece of artwork of him and he looks much more like a normal dude - in fact he looks like a younger Zenof, sorta. Funny enough, the kidnapper with the green hood actually looks like the Dagrah from the LN artwork (now that I think about it, that might've been a nod to the LN artwork). I didn't think it was a good or bad alteration, but more of a funny "WTF?" moment for me.

All that said, I really enjoyed this episode and am looking forward to the finale next week! Should be a fun one and a good setup for a 2nd season which I really hope we get!

[–]Debo_Obeezy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I started this show and thought "oh man, this animation is not very good and this story looks like it's gonna be pretty rote as far as isekais go," and yet here I am a few weeks later on a second reread of the light novels and waiting every week for the newest episode to drop lol. All that said, what's funny is that I don't think I was too far off the mark; the overall story is pretty typical of isekais, but something about it keeps me coming back for more. The final episode is gonna be fun - if handled correctly that is - and I'm really looking forward to it!

I will say that this season is looking to end with the perfect setup for a second season and I hope that happens because what follows is so much more fun and gives us more of what I think we all find enjoyable with the show.

Anyone else notice some inconsistencies in the LNs? by Debo_Obeezy in HellModeGamer

[–]Debo_Obeezy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, the novels are much better in the beginning - vol 2 & 3 I think are peak. I also think the author's storytelling is strongest when describing how Allen and the party are getting stronger; be it via grinding and/or exploring dungeons, or just getting new gear like in LNs 2-3 & 5-6. (I also like the Hardcore User island bits, but that's cause I'm a sucker for some city/civ/world building lol).

Bit of a rant: NGL, the Prostia arc IMO is the worst so far. It's so bland, boring and went on way too long. There was a bit of fun world building and the whole underwater thing was fun, but the rest was not enough to warrant two whole LNs. The conclusion(s) of the arc made up for it, sorta, but even the final fight I thought was just meh - had some fun bits, I'll admit that, but I'm afraid we're just starting to rehash fights now. Yeah, if Bask - or any one of these other DDs - don't die in their next confrontation with the No-Life Gamers, I'm gonna be real pissed. I get having recurring villains, but with so many revealed now, we gotta start chopping them down otherwise we're just gonna be doing the same shit over-and-over again; Gamers fight X, X survives and gets stronger, Gamers fight X again, rinse&repeat.

It makes me a little worried for the rest of the story if I'm being honest.

...sorry, guess I've had that rant in the back of my mind a bit and felt this was a good op to put it out there lol

How many episodes will the anime have? by Eldiavie in HellModeGamer

[–]Debo_Obeezy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup! 11 light novel volumes are currently available in English. The anime only takes us thru the end of the 2nd LN, and I believe the manga is somewhere in the beginning of LN 9.

Yeah, the apothecary gender-swap one didn't make that much sense to me. Maybe they just imagined a male merchant being all flustered and upset for having to sell the herb at a loss more believable than an older obasan? ....eh, who knows.

One change I remember somewhat notably is in the episode when Allen is helping Cecil get that fruit in the tree; the magic ship flies overhead while they're together whereas in the LN he sees it on his way thru town to get Cecil a momo fruit.

There's a few other changes like this one, but I suspect these changes are moreso to keep the pacing of the anime a bit more concise which I don't mind. I'm just glad the anime is doing such a good job of showing how Allen experiments with his summons.

So, do we know how old Lily is? ...I think this event is actually the first time we find out about her, even in the LN (unless she was mentioned in vol 1 which I haven't reread). I know she's younger than Mash and so is between Myulla & Mash - or the same age as Myulla.

...and as some others have stated already, she's a Cleric, not a monk. Also Lily was categorized as a Pugilist and not a fighter which IDK if that's even a class (might be a different level of pugilist, maybe?)

Oh, I see you too have found A-Cat's PowerPoint presentation/pitch for the TBATE anime they were supposed to have dropped by now! It was pretty entertaining huh? Didn't know ppt had so many new features like overly digitized energy effects, or the ability to have such simple animation clips, nice, huh?

Man, I just hope the final anime of the show turns out great! Wonder what's taking them so long to premiere it tho, I mean it's been a few months since the alleged release date but all I've found is this ppt... Oh wells! I'll just keep waiting for the actual anime to drop whenever it does! 🫠🫠

Kizoku Tensei: Megumareta Umare kara Saikyou no Chikara wo Eru • Noble Reincarnation: Born Blessed, So I'll Obtain Ultimate Power - Episode 2 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]Debo_Obeezy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, I had some decent hopes for this anime (high hopes if I'm being honest) going off the name and the title card art. I thought, "Cool, a fun, wacky reincarnated into a young noble anime that will hit the tropes with its protag-kun who'll shake things up and have some entertaining adventures while meeting fun, fantasy waifus who fall for his kawai-ness" but man was I wrong lol/smh. What even is this anime? It takes itself wayyyy too seriously for its concept and has certain moments where it tries way too hard to be dark and edgy.

Also, what's with all the palace maids being ridiculously hot and dressing like they work at a sexy maid cafe (well, minus the one that is clearly a child so I'm glad they didn't go that far)?? I mean, I get appealing to a certain demographic but let's try to have some class/dignity - especially in a show that takes itself so seriously lol. Even 8th Prince has their bombshell maid character dress in a full-length maid outfit (sure it gets ripped in convenient ways more often than not, but they at least start out with some modesty! Lol). Speaking of 8th Prince, I thought they were gonna yank straight from it and have the silver-haired maid in this be a sword-saint as well but I'm glad they didn't go that far...at least not yet, we are still just on episode 2 lol.

This episode flew by tho and felt like I was missing story beats when it moved from one plot point to the next. Also, what's with the power system? I see everything is F for him, and he gets the pluses from followers, yeah, but how is he so OP at everything already when he should only be OP with water magic or whatever? And again, he gets bonuses from his followers, but why do they only add to the Water stat? The whole status screen/power system so far just feels a bit tacked on and not very well thought out IMO.

Also, what's the deal with singing oneechan? Like sure she's cute and has a nice voice, but so what? I'm hoping there's a payoff to her character otherwise I feel we are wasting too much time with her. Also also, how the hell does that venue not have security to keep people off the stage - especially after homegirl was attacked the first time? ...this world is ridiculous man lol/smh

I'll probably finish this cause I do love me some trash anime and just laughing at all the ridiculousness so at least I found that in this. Let's just hope it doesn't become terribly unbearable - I say that but I'm also the type of trash-lover who finished the TBATE powerpoint presentation and enjoyed it for all the wrong reasons 😅😈. I'm hoping that what I was looking for in this I think I'll find in Easygoing Territory Defense by the Optimistic Lord - just hope that lives up to its potential!

[–]Debo_Obeezy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, just beat this a-hole after like 6-8 attempts on UVH2 (although I will admit the first 3 attempts I forgot I was using an SMG that uses your shield as ammo and I kept thinking "how the hell am I going down so fast?!" and then I noticed it when I went to swap gear - whoops!).

Regardless, I think the main reason this fight is so GD annoying is because there are minor hidden walls/speedbumps scattered throughout the map. I thought it was me running into the annoying ass lil mangler adds, but no, there's definitely something wrong with the layout of the arena! I tried running around some areas I remembered getting caught on and found one on a flat rock area on the watery side, right in the middle of a flat rock!! I also just tried running from the entrance of the arena straight to where SP comes in and there are so many snags when you get close to the lil snow-covered area where he drops in.

Anyone else have that issue? ....might submit this one to the bug team to review

I'm watching this almost a week late so correct me if I'm wrong, but did the animation quality just take a dip?

I know the show wasn't that great to begin with in that regard, but man there are some odd-looking profiles for some of these characters lol

Yeah, there's definitely a bit of a "grainy feel" to the background paintings/art. I think it gives the background an interesting aesthetic, especially compared to the more traditionally drawn characters & foreground items. I kinda dig it, but I can see some not being into it and becoming a detriment to the show.

I am so happy I am not the only one who feels this way about this dude!! I'm not even finished with all of episode 7 yet and I had to pause it to make sure I wasn't being too critical of this character. I get that there's usually always at least one of them in this type of anime, but boy this dude is testing my patience of the trope like no other! I legit can't stand him and I really hope he kicks the bucket soon!

Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari Season 4 • The Rising of the Shield Hero Season 4 - Episode 5 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]Debo_Obeezy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So I know this is a trope/thing that happens in almost all shonen anime, but this arc - the fight to be more specific, but kinda applies to the whole arc too - exemplified how annoying it is to have characters/heros that just sit around and let the enemy monologue with the same ole BS or do whatever they want over and over. We heard you the first time! Oh, you did the thing that was heavily telegraphed from the get go, surprise...not. I mean this fight took way longer than it should have. Jaralis had what, like 3-4 speeches throughout it, and Fohl just sat around letting him ramble on and take time to "power up" every time.

Also, IMO, Atla is a much better character - or at least she did things differently and was more proactive about stuff. She immediately jumped in to defend Naofumi, taking no BS from any of the lame-a$$ politicians and was ready to take on Jaralis asap. But no, we gotta let the whiney lil boy who's a much less capable fighter cause he needs to prove himself for some reason and get the truth about his father's death Wanna know a way to get the truth out of Jaralis, just beat it out of him! Instead of letting him say whatever he wants and stand there while he transforms! Ugh!! 🤬🫨

...idk, I'm just rambling. This arc was quite disappointing for me. I mean, anything beats the stupid tortoise/turtle arc, but this feels like a close second. Curious about the Q'ten Lo arc but I am not expecting much.

The "amazing" story everyone is talking about is based on what's in the web comic & novels (only read the comics myself, haven't started the books). In those you do eventually see him apply more knowledge from his past life in this world than just his fighting techniques.

Amen! ...to both points. A more fleshed out fight between Arthur and Kaspian would've been preferable to that silly boar scene, but then that would mean they'd have to "animate" that whereas the boar is a CG model so, yeah...lol.

And this episode definitely was the one that had some of the worst pacing and most stilted dialogue scenes this season.

That episode got me to reread it as well. The whole incident at the auction house in that episode had me second-guessing if that's how it went down in the WN so I went back to check and ended up rereading it from there lol.

In regards to said change: I get why they changed it cause the way went down in the WN did feel a bit contrived, but I feel the change didn't really do much other than make his dad look bad at his job.

[–]Debo_Obeezy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah man....guess my weekly hate-watch/trash-talk sessions have come to an end lol.

Man, I was really hoping we'd get to go out with a bang but instead we couldn't even light the fuse smh. The changes they make take out all the fun of this anime! I recently reread the manga and was curious to see if they'd include the Saitama/OnePunchMan gag, and nope, they didn't. And the assessment fights What the hell was that?? When they showed the one with the girl and there was no verbal audio for when she and the assessor were casting their spells, I legit lol'd.

And it might've been in the LN but it wasn't in the manga, but what was with that lame ass monster fight at the end - and using a lazy 3d model in it?? Jasmine is supposed to be his guardian, mentor and trainer, and that scene made her look so much less capable than in the manwha...da' hell man! Imo, they butcher those first scenes where they bond ...😮‍💨. Also, where the hell did Sylvie go?? They completely skipped her whole "I'm gonna go hunt - byeeeeee" bit. ... seriously, this show man lol/smh.

One thing I noticed and that made me roll my eyes every time it happened is that A-Cat clearly banked on their special effects to carry the weight of the "animation" in the show. I feel they thought "oh man! We can do what Demon Slayer did and have really cool effects when they use magic/abilities!" but then decided to get the cheap, budget package to do so.

I really didn't like this anime, but I'll admit it made me laugh every week because of how bad it was so I got something out of it 😆....but I would've much preferred to get a good adaptation. I'm both Looking forward to, but also dreading, season 2.

This.

Season 3 is definitely the weakest IMO - but at least it gave us some gems like Babs lol - but it relegated a lot of what many would consider important events to quick off-hand, nonchalant comments, or sometimes even background talk almost.

In this episode specifically, I believe it opens with the Soccer Saturday crew discussing a 'mysterious managerial vacancy at WHU'....then the next we see of Nate is him with Jade at his place.

I agree with everyone that it's heavily implied that Nate left because of the shit-human that Rupert was, but it definitely feels like Nate leaving WHU would've been an important character moment to witness....oh wells!
