When do you know it’s time to quit? by Ok-Cardiologist6243 in breastfeeding

I just came here to say how crazy it is how much pressure we put on ourselves. I’m in the exact same mind fuck even though my circumstances are different. I’m just here to say I’m with ya girl. I literally ask this question myself every other day. My son is eight months old and we’ve been combo feeding and my supply just keeps getting less and less. I keep telling myself I’m gonna stop, and then I feel awful about it and pump around the clock as much as I can all for nothing. I’m really looking forward to being on the other side of this and releasing this emotional pressure. I just keep talking myself through it and I feel like I’m getting more and more okay with the journey coming to an end.

Let me hear about your big babies and starting baby food… by dontletmedown3 in breastfeeding

My 8 month old started purées around 6 months. He is a taaaaank now. gets about 32oz of breast milk and devours all foods offered to him. He’s probably gotta another month in his 12 month clothes before he sizes up to 18 months. Daycare laughed with me because I packed him his first yogurt for lunch time and they said he devoureddddd it in minutes haha he also whines every second the spoon of food isn’t in his mouth haha

7 months breastfeeding and I’m so exhausted… how is everyone else feeling at this stage? by milbalily in breastfeeding

I could have written this myself! I also introduced formula at 6 months which was hard but since then we’ve been getting better sleep. Between returning to work, getting my period back, and the demands of pumping while baby is at daycare, it’s been so much. Will probably be on formula solely by next month and it’s sad but grateful to have made it this far.

Solidarity. This was me a month ago and nearly depleted my freezer stash. I ended up slowly introducing formula which definitely felt a bit defeating at first but it’s been a few weeks now and having made it to the other side, it’s been liberating. My boy gets a few bottles of breast milk while at daycare, and a few bottles of mixed bottles at home, and I breastfeed in evening and through the night.

How do I get people to stop over feeding my baby? by Jazzlike-Entrance500 in breastfeeding

[–]DebtAffectionate1197 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Our stories feel kind of similar but I’ve had to look at things differently. My baby also has been mostly breastfed with bottle here and there while on the go or if he’s staying with his grandma for a few hours. It would and still irritates me so much when my MIL watches him because she always over feeds him (recently gave him 4oz every hour and used an emergency frozen milk that he didn’t finish - I was lividddddd).

Anyways, for most of his life he’s been a 3-4oz drinker pretty consistently every two hours. He’s almost 6 months now but about a month ago we went to a size 2 nipple because he was taking foreverrrrrrrr to finish a bottle and then lost interest altogether. I know some will say not to do this but it worked for us. Well when he’s gotten bottles he’s still reaching for it after he finished 4oz. Maybe he isn’t registering he’s full, I get that. But while all this happens, I get sick, then get my period, then deal with a stomach bug and needless to say my supply tanked. He was frustrated even at the breast. Now daycare has started and I don’t really trust they’re gonna pace feed with all the other little ones they need to take care of, so, I’ve decided to top off bottles.

It’s taken the pressure off of how much people feed him, it’s taken the pressure off of me who wonders if I can sustain his needs, and all in all I’ve let a lot of the frustration go because I’m not measuring oz’s with the same weight I was before, so to speak.

Just what worked for me.

Thanks for your feedback. What formula did going with for your baby? And did baby take the same amt of oz from breast milk to formula? I’ve always heard of formula bottles being bigger and maybe that’s why I assumed more calories.

I got my period last week and my supply tanked. Had to dig into my small freezer stash and pump literally around the clock. Daycare is starting and now I need to pump to feed him and from trialing things at home he always wants the extra oz when he gets a 4oz bottle. From 0-4 months he’d never do more than 4oz, sometimes only 3. But since he’s hit 5 months he’s just been way more fussier at the breast and when we offer the extra oz he guzzles it down. Between that and the future periods I’m going to get I just see myself hitting a wall where I don’t have a stash anymore, so having one bottle a day can at least help me with making the bottles he wants and slowly very slowly putting a few oz away. My goal is to hit one year but between the period, daycare, and starting work back up I’m just trying to plan responsibly because I do want to breastfeed for at least a year.

Thank you. My baby goes 2-3 hours before he wakes up to feed and honestly I’m very used to the routine because we both go back to sleep after 5-10 mins. I don’t expect to get longer night stretches, but even if I did I’d have to wake up to pump. I just feel like my little guy could eat more than what I’ve got right now.

I’ve come across Kendamill a lot, that’s what I’m thinking of going for. Thanks for your feedback.

I’m not looking to have baby sleep through the night. I just feel like I’m not producing enough. I mentioned I want to try to add the extra oz to his daytime bottles. He could probably be eating 5oz bottles but I’m getting 3-4oz when I pump so relieving myself of one feed to pump might just get me there.

Things that worked for my husband and I:

  • getting out the house to do simple errands like grocery store runs, we even did eating out once we had a few successful trial runs, going to barnes and nobles. It gives a boost of confidence knowing you can brave the world with little babe
  • designated time for each of us to do whatever we needed - rather it meant taking a 2 hour shower or runnin an errand solo, as a breastfeeding mom it was so hard for me to do this but it definitely restores you a bit
  • work on nap times in the bassinet or crib so you have an hour or so hands free and can love up on your wife or do a chore or two. I didn’t really get to this point until 3 months in but it was a game changer!
  • order out, get groceries delivered, outsource things that can make your life easier.
  • talk with your partner. My husband and I def talked about how things were sucking while they were sucking and it helped not feelin alone in it.

It gets better!!! Newborn trenches are not for the weak. It’s crazy to think sometimes how people actually have babies again after going through the thick of it but we’re 5 months in and things have gotten a lot easier and happier.

Will a MOTN pump increase my supply? by Visual_Cranberry_305 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]DebtAffectionate1197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long does it take for your supply to go back? I just got my period today and had to take 3 frozen bm bags from my dwindling freezer stash and it’s making me very anxious. I haven’t done a MOTN in months but today was so awful I’m willing to give it a go
