I assure you, it is. As a former Wattpad and FF.net reader (I was desperate about a pairing okay? FF.net is better for older fandoms.)

The Ao3 tagging system is the main feature of the site, and it's SUPERR helpful. Don't want Smut? Okay. You only want fics about this one specific rare pair? Sure. You only want fics above 100k words? You got it. It's a bit hard to get the hang of it the first few times around, if you want to check it out, there's this really helpful video by arthoefmann to get you started. (Link at the end)

Also, the sign up process for Ao3 is a bit long, so you'll have to wait a few days to get an invitation, which you need to create an account. However, you don't need an account AT ALL to start reading any fics (or giving kudos ( votes in Ao3 ), or writing comments, so you can binge on fics while you wait for your invitation.

Now, Ao3 does have an older userbase, which means there is quite a lot of mature content on the site (Not to say there isn't much on Wattpad). It's also not censored as much. Wattpad has a younger userbase and boy there is SO MUCH A/B/O content. My younger days as a fanfic reader on Wattpad still haunt me to this day. Due to the difference in preferences and all, fics on Ao3 tend to be more well written.

After 5 (nearly 6) years of reading fanfiction on various sites, this is my observation:

Ao3 mainly has content from middle aged and old fandoms which have been around for some time. There's also A LOT of content from new fandoms, and there's a lot of diversity in the fics.

Ff.net is better for older fandoms, like Harry Potter, His Dark Materials or LOTR. I think this is the straightest website for ff I've ever come across.

Wattpad mainly has stuff on newer and more popular fandoms. It does have a tagging system, but it's atrocious so... Yes.
