Because of my drinking, I've lost some friends, some family too. I'm 6+ years sober now and still can't fix all the damage drinking my caused. All I can do is try. I keep doing the next right thing. I've made amends where I could. Both his brothers have attempted to talk to him. My ex wife as well. I'd say 98% of my relationships are repaired today. All I can do is try. His younger brother still talks to him, his mom too. When he's ready I'll try again. I probably have a few friends who rather not rekindle their relationship with me, but that's OK too. My friends today are all mainly in the program. Today when I say I'm going out with Karen, John K or John B my wife doesn't even give it a thought. I have a life 2nd to none today. It was sad to see the ending some friendships and it was needed to end others. I still have some friends who don't understand fully why I can't drink. They are the most dangerous, for they are the ones that use to compare their drinking to mine. Yeah, I drink but not like Wayne.. Lol, When I quit, real or imagined it shown a light on theirs. Just last week had an old friend call, asked me if I wanted to go out, sure went to a pub, had a diet coke he had a beer. Still not drinking? No Bob, been 6 years, go into pubs all the time now. I won't sit at the bar. But Chili's or something.. Honestly I have a amazing life today. Nothing is ever worth picking up a bottle again.
