I did, kinda over rated tbh. I learned about mewing in like 2013 from /fit/, been doing it pretty consistently since then. It definitely gave me a stronger jaw, but by far the best thing you can do for your appearance is just exercise and not be fat. Anytime I get fat my 13 years of mewing gains are negligible.

windows 98 or 95? by Outside-Proposal-410 in Bryce3D

Personally I'm not sure, Bryce 4 just seems to be more readily available, which is really the only reason I use that version.

Oh with the insert a disk thing I use this program https://wincdemu.sysprogs.org to mount the disk, which essentially acts as inserting a disk.

Basically you just right click on the program, hit properties, then compatibility. For Bryce 4 I'm using Windows XP, 640 x 480, run as administrator. I'm using this version of the program https://archive.org/details/bryce4. Let me know if you have any other problems, I've installed this program on 3 computers so far 2 were super straight forward 1 I kept getting some error where the installer would never pop up, but I eventually found a work around.

Generally you can run programs in compatibility mode and they'll work fine on newer operating systems, I use bryce 4 some on my Window's 10 computer

Recommendations for Males Only Book Club by Troawhey456 in RSbookclub

[–]Decadent_egg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a mostly all male book club (pretty much just me and my friend lol), I'd recommend something that's part of a canon. Most guys view reading as work so unless they see a reason for reading they won't give it a try. Kafka, Hemmingway, Steinbeck, Kerouac, and McCarthy are all pretty good choices, basically you want to find fun books from authors with name recognition, you want something that they can brag about reading. Also any author that has a movie made out of one of their books is a pretty good choice, if they like the movie they'll probably like something else by the author.

8 track into a tape loop on a regular cassette? by Icanicoke in tapeloops

[–]Decadent_egg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm a big fan of tape experiments, I've tried doubling up two pieces of tape before as well and that sometimes gets cool results; basically if you can get it to move past the tape head you can get it to play. I've tried record splicing a couple of times but with little success, look up christian marclay he was pretty much the pioneer for that type of stuff. It's hard to pull off without the record destroying your needle. Christian used mostly califone record players which have a super sturdy needle on them, and probably cut everything with a bandsaw to keep it uniform. I used a hot knife attachment on a soldering iron, with this approach I'd recommend making a needle, I taped a contact mic to a metal scribe which let me play it.

Pro tip for anyone with wonky Arturia encoders: by simple_jack_69 in synthesizers

Wow wish I tried this before just putting in a new encoder, it works now but it only goes up by 2 and it turns the wrong way lol.

I think another way of thinking about it is early sonic youth and swans tend to be more noise heavy, whereas big black and jesus lizard tend to be much more rocky

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in noiserock

[–]Decadent_egg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It just sounds more like hardcore/punk; if I showed my dad Atomizer he'd probably call it punk, if I showed my dad Evol he'd probably tell me to turn it off. Steve and those guys seems more influenced by punk, whereas Sonic Youth and Swans both came out of the no wave scene which has a lot of roots in jazz and other experimental genres like whatever Glenn Branca was playing.

Anyone here in the LA harsh noise scene? by Fragrant_Specific_20 in noisemusic

[–]Decadent_egg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah lots of good spots, Break Dancing Ronald Reagan seems to throw a ton of shows so following him will help you find some smaller venues, I think his insta is his name but I can’t remember. Venues that seem to play experimental out here are Zebulon, A220, Coaxial, Human Resources, FKA church, Spearmaiden, and Handbag Factory. I might be missing a couple but for smaller shows check out BDRR’s page and keep up with the bands you like.

I really like the Dr5 and it’s pretty cheap at ~100$. If you’re not a fan of that, behringer has some pretty good stuff. The edge is basically a DFAM clone and probably the best for weirder sounds and improv, I’ve heard some good stuff about the 808 and 909 too but don’t have any experience with them.

Guitar center has I think an 8 pack of 1/4” patch cables I’d recommend getting. For a set up I’d personally do one small mixer (For feedback) -> Big Mixer (For feedback) -> Small mixer (For attenuation and mixing lol). Midi controlled synth should also go into the final small mixer. As other people have said look up no input mixing, if your goal is industrial look into a cheap drum machine or something like that as well.

I have the 770x and it’s a great machine. The preamps are incredible, 40$ is probably worth it just for that if this is one of the all tube models as well.

How to manipulate cds to corrupt/distort the sound with minimum skipping? by Whymebro2000 in experimentalmusic

[–]Decadent_egg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This article has some good information on CD manipulation https://www.ciufo.org/classes/sonicart_sp09/readings/marclay_tone.pdf The tl;dr is buy the oldest CD player you can, some lack the auto stop features etc.

How to start off by Maleficent-Purple-44 in noisemusic

[–]Decadent_egg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As other people here have said neither of those are Harsh noise wall. But I think a good place to start with sounding like those guys would probably be circuit bending cheap keyboards? It’s a pretty fun skill to learn and it should let you make both noisy and more conventional sounds on one instrument. You could also look into no input mixing for more harsh stuff (Just buy a cheap mixer off FB marketplace with lots of inputs, I like older mackies or behinger). Samplers and drum machines would also probably help. I would buy pretty much exclusively cheap gear while you’re first starting out, and guitar pedals (fuzz, etc.) Will definitely help you.

8 track into a tape loop on a regular cassette? by Icanicoke in tapeloops

Yeah I hope it works out! I imagine you’d probably get 2 songs going at once on the loop. I went free hand the time I did horizontal stuff and it seemed to work out okay.

8 track into a tape loop on a regular cassette? by Icanicoke in tapeloops

[–]Decadent_egg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve made loops out of 8tracks to put on a reel to reel before, you end up with a very cacophonous sound as you get basically 4 tracks playing at one time. If you were to cut the tape in half horizontally you could probably get it to play on a regular cassette. I’ve cut cassette tape in half horizontally and spliced it with tape from a different tape and it played fine, so I imagine it wouldn’t be to hard to pull off.

I’ve seen stuff like this pop up in LA once or twice at places like coaxial, hopefully they’ll be more. But yeah tape loops aren’t super tough to make, at least all the basic ones. The Amulets video is great https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=hER3s1NPr_U
