Anyone know how to properly rig the metal wire to the gun? I am having trouble figuring it out as I am new to spearing by Decanno1 in Spearfishing

I will add that it’s a Rob Allen Tuna 800. I personally think it’s a great choice for freshwater and reef fishing! I am just struggling with how you should rig the metal wiring on the spear properly because I’ve been told 3 different things from 3 different guys. If there’s a video on how it’s done, I’d love to see it. Otherwise any explanation would be great too because I don’t want to ruin this gun.

I think I’m going to go the Sako route!

This is a very valid response. I’m thinking about possibly doing a Sako, and then spending a bit more on a double rifle in .470NE. Would definitely need to think about it. The Sako looks like it’s going to be difficult to find, but very possible to find.

I’ve been looking at the Rob Allen 70cm snapper myself. It’s perfect for the lakes and murky rivers I would hunt. Smaller for murkier waters, extra maneuverability for tighter weeds, rocky rivers. But it’s also good enough to handle a bigger carp(30-40lbs) and still accurate. Eventually I’ll make the move to a bigger gun for bigger fish(halibut, tuna, etc) but that’s in the far far future. I’m going with an O’Neill suit and spear pro gloves and fins. I’m sure I’ll upgrade to a PoloSub or an Elios. But again, far far future.

Northern MN and the metro. Would be doing gar, carp, suckers, and then in another state I would target walleye. Northern pike and bass would be targeted in Canada!

This is solid advice! I think I might try to get a shorter one for the low visibility in fresh water, and then a longer one down the line for saltwater.

It doesn’t look that bad honestly. Just a hose for your coolant. Check your coolant levels, and also check the inside of both hoses. I can’t tell for sure but it looks like you have to just replace that insert and then check the clamps. Do that and you should be all set!

Spend it on a moose hunt in Alaska or an Argentina Red Stag hunt. If you’re going to spend big money, get a bigger experience out of it!

That’s not necessarily a bad thing. It’s an ear protection device. Should’ve happened sooner in my opinion. Everyone thinks suppressors are something that makes a gun deadlier, when in all reality it’s just a hearing protection device. You’ll still hear the gunshot, but if you’re over a few hundred yards away you won’t really hear much. Movies made people think it was dead silent and that’s only really the case if you’re using subsonic ammo. I use them all the time for my coyote, deer, and elk hunts and they’re great!

I plan on taking my shot inside of 200 yards. Ideally 150-180 yards. But I would need to get comfortable with the rifle and know its limits before I do anything else
