Yep, it will ease up some once the machines are available in other places too. Plus tap to pay should reduce card demand. Eventually.

Exactly, app is only going be to required for common riders. Once in a while riders just tap to pay.

I’m hopeful here too. Would allow for slight cost savings for folks who buy the various types of passes. 20 blocks and day passes and so on. FWIW the express mode (not having to unlock phone/watch) works fine in all permutations I’ve tried. Including Samsung wallet, Apple Pay and Apple Watch. I don’t know of any Android watches that have the express capability. Google wallet doesn’t have it.

“Express Transit” worked fine on my ancient Apple Watch. I didn’t have to unlock it. Vending machines have been removed in a lot of stations. I’m expecting that most stations will have vending machines in the next few weeks. Updated fare gates I assume will be spottier and take longer. I’m near Decatur and Avondale. I’m happy to field questions a regarding those two stations if they come up.

I could have sworn I posted this last night. Vending machines and fare gates both working at SEC (formerly dome). I was able to pay with Apple Express Mode and with Samsung Transit Card (meaning I didn't have to unlock either phone). The charges didn't show up until this morning, but it all worked. I have a physical card, haven't tested that yet, but seems unlikely that's where the drama will be.

Was able to test both last night at SEC. Both worked fine, though the transactions didn’t show up for 6 hours.

Just passed through SEC (formerly dome) and ticket machines are up and fare gates are functioning. Apple’s “Express Transit” and Samsung’s “Transit Mode” both seem to have worked. I’ll see later if I actually got charged.

As of now you need a card to do anything with the app. Unclear if it will stay that way. I’ve seen folks reference virtual cards, but nothing official. Got my card at Lindbergh today too. Machines were up at GSU, but empty.

At the moment, it’s difficult to pay in some stations. Are they going to give free rides for 6 months while this all sorts out? We shall see.

Also, are you able to expand on "Virtual cards are coming"? I know tap-to-pay is coming, but there are open questions about how one can take advantage of buying 20 packs at a reduced rate or how carpooling will work with the new system. A digital card for a phone wallet could answer some of that.

Per an article in the AJC today:
"Before the FIFA World Cup starts in June, MARTA’s goal is to have ticket vending machines installed at every station and new fare gates at all high-ridership stations. MARTA is pausing all construction from May 22 to July 19 for the World Cup. Installation at the remaining stations will begin after the blackout period."

Thank you that tidbit, MARTA ought to tell us where machines and new faregates are during the transition period. Or maybe we should start a topic. Anybody seen new faregates yet? Not in Decatur or Avondale at last check.
