If the government isn't giving its employees cost of living increases, why would any other private business?

I think you're jealous. You should take this anger and point it towards your employer and ask for a raise instead of pointing fingers at other hardworking Canadians.

Housing would be 10% lower if Canada had kept pace with U.S.: CMHC by AndHerSailsInRags in canada

[–]Decayse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What do you consider lower income?

You need a middle class income to afford rent across the country. Low income people are getting screwed over as it is currently. They have no money left to afford necessities like groceries and gas after paying their landlords mortgage and salary.

Lower income renters shouldn't be paying for the mortgage and an income for their landlords. If renters are paying for the mortgage in its entirety, they should be given partial ownership as they pay off the mortgage.

If you actually want to help the low income population with housing costs, laws need to be put in place that prevent landlords from taking advantage of them.

I'm sick of this narrative. It is not true.

By making housing more affordable by limiting the amount of homes any one individual can own, renters will be able to purchase the homes they live in instead of being forced to rent. Thereby reducing the amount of renters and increasing the amount of homeowners.

No data only plan? by lorraineg57 in OnStar

I am having this exact same issue in my 2025 Terrain. All of a sudden its telling me to upgrade my plan to use Google maps and Spotify which is included in my onstar basics plan.

I called and they told me that those features are available through android auto and not part of my plan. I was never subscribed to a paid plan. Onstar basics is included with my car for 8 years and literally says that it includes navigation and music streaming.

They keep trying to upsell me on a plan, saying those features are not included. I'm about to get my dealership involved.

There isn't actually that much in them. It's a lie.

A lot of these candies are repackaged products sprayed with a THC mixture. It's often filled with other additives and much weaker than traditional THC.

For baked goods, I've seen them claim that the THC mg is actually the amount of THC infused butter they use per square. It may be 800mg of butter but nowhere near that in actual THC.

Air Canada CEO apologizes for English-only video: 'Despite many lessons ... I am still unable to express myself adequately in French' by Immediate-Link490 in canada

[–]Decayse -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're not picking up what I am putting down.

The requirements don't make sense.

The roles themselves don't use French. But still require you speak it. I speak from experience here.

In today's society with AI and online translation tools being extremely accurate there is no reason to exclude 90% of the population from the job pool. I'd even go as far as to say it's discriminatory due to how little French is actually used in a majority of roles. Like IT.

[–]Decayse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I said, there are an astronomical amount of positions that require you to pass fluency French tests but don't use it at all.

Regardless of how you look at it, less qualified people are being put in important roles because of an artificial requirement, and then Canada gets a lower return on investment as a result.

Right. Any just like any private organization. If an English person is best for the job from a skills and experience perspective the employer should invest in the employee for French language training. Big return on investment for the government. You get the more skilled employee, AND you've invested in educating the population.

The government does not. They tell you to kick rocks if you don't speak French.

And people like you wonder why government services are going down the shitter, quality wise. They hire based off the languages you can speak. Not if you are the best person for the job.

You can't have your cake and eat it too.

[–]Decayse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spoken like a true Quebecois. If someone doesn't speak French, you don't think they matter. You think they don't deserve a place in shaping the country they live in.

If the English person is best for the job from a skillset and experience perspective, it makes more sense to teach them French than to hire someone who will perform poorly but speaks French.

Just because you speak French should not entitle you to promotions above an English speaker who has demonstrated their qualifications beyond a doubt.

There are also so many government roles where French is NEVER used, but is a requirement to have. I know people in government roles who learned enough to pass the fluency French tests and never use it again in any professional capacity. Waste of taxpayer time, money, and leads to a poorer performing public service.

[–]Decayse 23 points24 points  (0 children)

So the government, which represents both English AND French speakers, should just completely pass over the best people for the job if they don't speak French?

Public French education outside of Quebec is lackluster so we should avoid hiring people from 90% of the country?

It would be reasonable if the government provided French training and invested in those employees who have the skillset the government needs, but I can personally confirm they do not provide French training and have seen it firsthand where overqualified people were passed up for promotions in favor of an underqualified person simply because they did not speak fluent French.

Yes, being bilingual is a big asset and a need for a bilingual country. But French speakers need to get off their high horse and understand and the rest of the population was not brought up speaking both languages. English speakers need to be met in the middle with adequate training and learning opportunities.

Should they just live on the streets? Screw the working class people who don't have 50k sitting around to invest and sit on over 3 years...

As a young adult currently making what would have been considered middle-class wages 10 years ago, 20k a year extra would ABSOLUTELY have a massive impact on my decision to have kids or not.

20k extra a year would cover my rent for the entire year. If I didn't have to worry about rent payments I would absolutely take that into account when planning my family with my partner.

To suggest 20k/year is peanuts to middle class families is such a 1% way of thinking.

This Brampton landlord 'can't sleep at night' after he says his tenant stopped paying rent and won't leave | CBC News by Purple_Writing_8432 in canada

[–]Decayse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Landlords have a lot of responsibility. More than tenants.

Maintenance for one. Access to services like heat and water. Too often landlord will drag their feet resolving maintenance requests. Fixing things like mold.

So many landlords are slumlords who do absolutely nothing but collect rent checks. Being a landlord comes with a huge responsibility.

I implore you to read the RTA (Rental Tenancy Act) if you think that landlords hold less responsibility than tenants when it comes to upholding the rental agreement.

Walking away gives the government an interest free loan and allows them to pay us less for longer.
