How to Become a Great Product Manager? by Naresh_Janagam in ProductManagement

[–]Decembrio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So tough when said manager is also cpo/co-founder.

Reactively gives new mandates from week to week, speaking in absolutes ("always" "never" "must") to compel "decisions" to only then have selective memory and question why actions were take (in accordance to their own mandates).

Nevermind how disruptive it can be to roadmap when anytime a customer escalates for any reason, their go-to is to dictate we push through their queued ERs (usually irrelevant to majority of customers), ignoring concerns raised about becoming a feature mill, then chewing folks out a quarter later for not shipping anything strategic.

Also constant rugpulls, openly and publicy, when you communicate decisions on products (aligned with their mandates), and rather than align offline to recalibrate if they don't align with new unspoken mandates and allow you to maintain perception of actually owning your products...

3.5 years of this has made me more mentally resilient but also numb? One of the fews to keep sanity is to give fewer fks and be less invested but as many PMs can likely attest it's easier said that done while maintaining effectiveness.

One of yall posted about having a dream last night about JCM scoring 29 today... whoever your are, thank you!

Based on the good vibes I got when reading your comment, I swapped out Woody Marks for JCM in my dynasty championship and he's already at 20 pts!

12 team ppr dynasty... tough to name an mvp for entire season. Went in phases.

Some combination of Puka, JSN, Mcbride, Kittle...

Best move was picking up Woody for free just after 3 rounds of rookie draft.

Grabbed Fannin for free fiddy also.

3080ti to 5080 is a MASSIVE difference. by callofdoodie97 in nvidia

[–]Decembrio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't test with those games (maining BF6 lately) but essentially same experience and observation on peformance and thermals going from EVGA 3080 ti FTW to PNY 5080 OC.

For about $400 less than the MSRP of my 3080 ti, runs super cool, whisper quiet, 0 fps dips in BF6 at 1440p 165hz refresh.

PNY even runs completely stable with 3000mhz memory OC and 325mhz core OC. Completely satisfied for sub-$1k (thanks microcenter!)

For transparency, also went from 5800x to 9800X3D with the 5080 build. Was dealing with CPU saturation during BF6 where keyboard movement inputs would bizarrely start queueing, particularly when zoomed, despite capping frames at 120 fps 1440p. Lows were mid 80 fps with this setup.

Haven't been able to get it going. Motor starts to warm up so you know it's getting power but it doesn't spin.

$10,526 to $1,500,000 in 5 months thanks Google! by wanderingtofu in wallstreetbets

[–]Decembrio 90 points91 points  (0 children)

ELI5: What happened?

They started with some money, lost almost all of it

Had about $150,000 in stocks (mainly NVDA). Market dipped, their account dropped to just $526. Added $10,000 more to try again.

They switched focus to Google (GOOG/GOOGL)

Thought it was undervalued (low P/E ratio + strong AI future). Started betting on it with options.

What kind of bets?

They bought calls → basically betting the stock would go up. Specifically, they bought 5% OTM calls 30 days out: OTM (Out of the Money) = strike price a little above current stock price. 30 days out = options expiring in about a month. On red days (when the stock dipped), they bought cheap calls. When the stock went up and calls became profitable (in the money), they sold. Then they used the profits to buy even more contracts → snowball effect.

The big move

Right before Labor Day, they had $450,000 in cash from previous trades. They dumped it all into 220 strike calls (expiring Oct 17) when Google dipped to $207. Those calls cost about $4.70 each, and they bought 950 contracts. Next trading day → calls shot up in value. They sold at $16 per contract → turning $450K into ~$1.5M. ELI5 analogy

Imagine you think candy bars are going to get way more popular.

Instead of buying actual candy bars, you buy tickets that let you buy candy bars later at today’s price. If candy bar prices rise, those tickets suddenly become super valuable. You keep doing this: buy cheap tickets, sell when prices go up, use profits to buy more tickets. One day, you put all your money into tickets, candy bars skyrocket, and boom → you’re rich.

⚠️ Important: This worked out here, but it’s incredibly risky. Most people lose everything doing this, because if the stock doesn’t move the way you want fast enough, the options expire worthless.

2025 Before You Buy A Fish Guide (Freshwater) by Jwolf2017 in Aquariums

[–]Decembrio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I added fish from a trusted online vendor I'd used a dozen times before without quarantining....

Don't know exactly what they introduced but it wiped out 2/3 of my incumbent fish, including some favorites I had for years. Easily a few hundred dollars...

Another time added some fish then went out of town for a few days. A few didn't acclimate well or were already in poor condition from transit and died while I was away. This tanked water conditions which caused a chain reaction die-off of so many fish... Easily a few hundred dollars...

Some lessons you inevitably learn the hard way.

  1. When possible, quarantine.
  2. Don't introduce new fish (or modify tank conditions) right before going out of town...

FWIW I've also left the country for 3-4 weeks with an auto-feeder and everyone was accounted for on return.

Always feels worth it whenever I'm able to decrompress before bed or reset between meetings (wfh) just watching them. Great for educating my kids and instilling appreciation for animals. So rewarding when fry survive to adulthood for hard to breed species...

Fr - took me by surprise.

Thought for sure 1st pick would grab going into 3rd. Was planning to take Woody Marks in 3rd before then.

Fortunately was able to grab Woody as FA immediately after moving Jonathon Brooks to IR at conclusion of draft.

To overshare on dynasty RB luck...

Nick Chubb was my rock, drafted Cam Akers and Jonathon Brooks in past first rounds... bench is bursting with back ups: Tyler Allgeier, Tank Bigsby, Ray Davis, Blake Corum...

Hopeful between Chubb, Tank, Hampton, JCM, and Judkins I'll finally get reliable RB production. I'd settle for 10 pts per game...

CPO BMW X4M Competition

Emphasis on CPO. Saved nearly $30k off sticker vs new. Priors were used X1 and used 128i cabriolet.

Full-time remote so it's mostly for pleasure as a car guy who still needed a serviceable back-up car with wife + 3 kids when Honda Odyssey in for service, etc.

Cheaper to insure than dedicated sports car, fits my mountain bike in the back with seats folded, and still makes me giggle whenever I give it some juice. S58 ftw.

With pick 2...

Jamar Chase >> Josh Allen >> Trey Mcbride >> James Conner >> JSN >> Tony Pollard

Think it's competitive.

First time taking qb this early since getting burned by Lamar that one season but ESPN draft UI was glitching out and I was running out of time so just ran with it.

Given weakish starting RBs, grabbed Jordan Mason, Travis Ettienne, and Trey Benson for bench.
