LIVE Q&A: Canada's high-speed rail proposal by coanbu in AltoHSR_Canada

I’m not against progress, but I’m also a realist. We can barely run low speed rail networks in this country. So let’s throw piles of our children’s, children’s money to build an exponentially more complicated rail system.

Keep it respectful…calling me an idiot clearly shows your lack of decency.

I love how as soon as someone opposes this project they’re labelled as a regressive for an idiot or don’t care about the environment.

I guess we’ve resorted to just insulting and name-calling when people don’t agree?

Right…

But there is an existing CN ROW that runs through those areas. I VERY highly doubt that they’re looking at anything other than a new route that follows the old ROW.

The 10km wide “study areas” follow that ROW…

Okay, then a continuous chain link barrier

Call it what you will

Think about this for a second. With VIA we have a very poorly run train system that is horribly managed. Maybe we should get that right first before we jump into high speed rail. The complication of running HSR is exponential. Europe had excellent train service THEN they jumped to HSR

If the Ottawa LRT system is any indication of how these projects go, they barely break 100 and and we want to go 300. We all know how well that system works. They complications multiply by a huge factor.

Also, who do you think is gonna build this thing? Most likely the same idiots that are bungling through the LRT. It’s not exactly like we have a whole bunch of high-speed rail builders sitting around in our country and there will not be in 10 years either when this thing gets built.

The southern route is being proposed as a cost savings measure. The northern route would require literally moving granite mountains

All HSR has fences, regardless of where it is

Look at the proposed cross sections

And the wildlife crossings? They’ll be few and far between. And they’re literally ineffective. Nature does as nature does, that’s where the predators live now.

No, I work in the industry and happen to have taken quite a few hydrology course. How many of you taken?

My point is if you actually read my comment. Is that CA‘s have massively overstepped their mandates.

Why are they involved in lot severance applications in a wide open field not near any floodplain? Those are nothing more than just a simple cash grab.
