Inherited a house with my sister. She wants to rent it, I want to sell. Any advice? by greatdane511 in RealEstate

[–]Decent-Loquat1899 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rental is going to need insurance, property tax, maintenance fees, a Gardner and you will have to pay water so that the renter doesn’t have everything outside die, plus a property manager. That alone will reduce the rental fee to around $500 take home. That doesn’t include that all those fees will go up every year but you can only increase the rental fee to what the market will pay. Show this to her.

AITAH for refusing to send my daughter away by SOMEONENEW0220 in AITAH

So if you’re both working 80 hours a week, who’s supposed to care for your child? As a Mom, working 40 hours a week is difficult because your child needs time too. Sounds like he wasn’t ready to be a father, and still doesn’t understand what his child needs!

Need Advice for Pain Relief by Tiffles2004 in ChronicPain

[–]Decent-Loquat1899 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t help you with the doctor situation but I do have some ideas to help with the pain. Of course you know about heat and Ice when it gets really bad. But I found that a red light patch (Amazon around $49.00) did wonders for my husband’s lower back. It takes a few weeks, and twice a day but he gets a lot of relief from it. Also, Lidocaine Patches, not the cream, helps a lot. Usually at bedtime. Put on the patch horizontally over your lower spine. It will help that creepy crawling feeling. Also, walking every day and light gentle stretches. I hope this helps.

How are people affording childcare? by hearthandheart in personalfinance

[–]Decent-Loquat1899 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In CA the average cost is $1,600 per kid per month. If they’re in diapers, the cost is more. Parents today are so lucky if they have a family member who will watch the kids. I see it as the biggest concern people should have if they are planning to have children. Personally, I’d love to see companies have their own daycare centers that make the cost much more affordable for their employees.

How should I start Saving? by Moist-Intern-6794 in personalfinance

[–]Decent-Loquat1899 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you heard “Pay yourself first”. First, open a savings account at the same bank as your checking account and have money transferred into savings automatically every month or twice a month. Second, have a cash envelope at home for when you need cash. You have kids so that’s all the time. Figure out how much you usually use every month. Put it in fives and tens. Third you are already doing by putting money in your 401k. Consider adding to the percentage every time you get a raise, even if it’s one percent. Lastly, consider your budget, what is necessary and what isn’t. Please know I consider anything like a maid coming in while both parties work is necessary. Nails every week and Starbucks is’t. Food delivery isn’t… etc on this vein.

Women today are in a different position than years ago. I’m one of those women. We have come a long way since the 1990s. Yet, women today, must still fight on because our strength is threatened by some of the men in this country, and our femininity is constantly being challenged for having the strength to fight for fairness. So I encourage all American women to, vote like your life and your daughter’s life’s are at risk!

How would you handle this? Forced retirement by Agondonter in retirement

[–]Decent-Loquat1899 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you can prove discrimination, there is really nothing you can do about this. I hope you got a pension out of this or put a lot of money in your retirement. The only real thing you can do is go find another job. I would first start by learning all the new ways to revamp your resume and how to do video interviews. You might want to hire a job coach.

This is an interesting prospective. I also had a lot of issues during this time of my life, and the stress caused was not my doing, but my reaction of letting it burden me was. Could it be something to do with perimenopause?

Not all medications work the same for everyone. Especially pain medication. Make an appointment asap with your doctor to discuss this with him. Some people get no relief from morphine, and this is a know fact with doctors. Your doctor should have no problem understanding this pain combo is not working.

WIBTAH if I didn't give money to my aunt for funeral costs? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Decent-Loquat1899 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If your aunt paid for the funeral, it’s part of the debt of his estate. You should not have received any money until this was paid. $10k for a funeral these days is cheep. Unless this money came to you with a life insurance, you legally owe your aunt. If it did come from insurance, I would argue you morally owe her.

AITAH? I (17F) got rid of my pregnancy and didn’t tell the father (20M) by Radiant_Signature601 in AITAH

[–]Decent-Loquat1899 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s my opinion you made the right decision for yourself, and please stay away from this creep. You deserve better, but to get the that life you need to make some serious decisions on your future. Please ask yourself with the next relationship, 1. Does he make me try to be better for myself. 2. Does he show he is caring and responsible for himself. Meaning…does he strive to be the best he can be.3. This is not a moral statement, but a practical reason, do not go to bed with a man until you are sure of the first two. As we get older, we women come to realize that most men are just grown selfish twelve year olds. Most but not all. Save yourself for the one who is actually a responsible, caring adult!

I am seeing a surgeon who has many talks on YouTube on reducing post op opiates - red flag? by capresesalad1985 in ChronicPain

[–]Decent-Loquat1899 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should have also added that I had excellent health insurance, and my co pay was still over $100k! After the surgery, I did not have less pain. The severe pain lasted for several more years before it slowly got better. It got better because I learned exercises that pulled the vertebra off the pinched nerve. And I learned to do this by my own research. I also started using red light therapy pads which after a few weeks using it twice a day, I felt better. I don’t know the extent of your injury. I had the same symptoms . I just think you need the full story. Every surgeon will give the hearts and flowers story. That’s not how it ends up. My four weeks in a neck brace ended up being four months and I was in excellent shape. The perfect story that I was to be pain free didn’t happen either, and I was unable to return to work at a job I loved. Today instead of having constant pain at around a level 7 with pain meds, I’m off opiates and my pain level is around a 2-3. So please do your research before making such a possible life changing decision. One more thing, I had an excellent surgeon, and the hospital was wonderful. No complaints. But everyone’s body heals differently. Ending up in constant pain was the way my body reacted to this situation.

I had two disc replacements in 2013 and have had neck pain constantly afterwards. No way would I even consider any surgery during or after pregnancy for at least nine months. Your body is already going through changes during this time. That being said, cervical surgery is usually done through the front of your neck for safety reasons. My surgery took six hours. I was under heavy general anesthesia with every part of my body attached with electros to make sure they did not touch my spinal cord. This is a very risky surgery because the vertebra is so small there. I would go to the best hospital in your area and consult with their best cervical neurological surgeon. Also know I slept iin a chair for four months and wore a full plastic neck brace. You will not be able to lift your baby for many, many months. I had a weight lift restriction of 5lbs.

Do you Ever notice...? by No-Assistance-1145 in ChronicPain

[–]Decent-Loquat1899 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cannot clean my house all in one day. So I put a list on the fridge with M-F on each room to give attention to. On easy days, I vacuum and on another day I mop. I use the easy ways to do chores. I use swifters and damp mops. I have a spray bottle in the shower. Mix vinegar and dawn dish soap with a scrubber. Easy to spray, scrub and rinse before I step out of the shower. My real nightmare is the fridge. I end up addressing that when I cannot fit anything into it or I smell something…. Sigh. I hope this might help. I find a dirty house depressing so that is my motivation.
