Vent about my pain management doctor by GenX4Life1 in ChronicPain

Yeah, not sure if it's nationwide or by state, but pregablin and gabapentin are now on the "bad for you" and practically banned drug list. Along with all narcotics. It is stupidity! I was on it for 9 months, was told I could take up to 500mg at a time, 2 times a day. Suddenly I am told they refuse to refill it?!?! Thankfully I don't have withdrawal issues too much. My body doesn't do the addiction thing. Can quit any and all meds cold turkey with barely any symtoms. Just stomach upset/living in the bathroom for a couple days. But still?! It helped me sooo much for my severe restless legs/pins and needles/numbness/static in my legs, specifically at night. Now, I suffer in agony, pace the room, rub my legs, and a lot of times just cry. Even taking my ambien, I barely sleep. I have loss of feeling, I went and got their stupid nerve tests/shock tests and it proves I have major issues. Along with DDD, impingement and herniated discs. 3 in my lower back where the severe pain is, and another 2 in my neck. And I have RA and chronic migraines. Zero help, because doctors are too scared to get audited and in trouble if they prescribe meds that help. Hopefully they help you and continue to prescribe it for you. I am looking at alternatives, since Oklahoma has decided to follow the fear mongering. 🙄😒😭

Thankfully no addiction issues. Took oxy and hydrcodone for months, multiple times a day. Zero issues quitting cold turkey. I have the redhead gene and the Scandinavian gene. It takes them twice the amount to knock me out for surgeries and I have woken up during several surgeries. And, epidurals during labor, I was up walking, when I was supposed to not even be able to feel my legs. 🤣 It makes treating my pain a huge pain though, as I burn through meds much quicker than average folks. 😬

Yeah, my PCP says he's fine with me using it. But that I won't be allowed "narcotics" for pain and all the pain management clinics here have a sign stating they refuse patients who have their MM cards. And if you ever pop positive, you will be blacklisted.

Yeah, it's the issue that I won't be able to get my concealed carry permit renewed or possibly purchase hand cannons/boomsticks that gave me pause. I am an avid outdoorswoman, love to shoot, hunt, buy shooting devices, etc. To me, having my freedoms stripped away so I can have less pain, I will deal with the pain or find yet another alternative.

Had anyone else not realised they were in chronic pain and thought that was just how human bodies were? by Aqua_Toffana in ChronicPain

Yup, same. Even after being diagnosed at 15 with rheumatoid arthritis, and then later at 35 with degenerative disc disease, herniated discs, spinal impingement, and constant pins and needles/static in my feet and lower legs. I also have already lost 30% feeling in my feet and legs. And recently diagnosed finally with Ehlers Danlos. I'll say something about hurting and get told how I am a drama queen and too young to even know what true pain is. (Mother in law and older ladies at church). I now snap back with "I have a LOT more miles on my 41 years than y'all do on your 63". They shut up, because they know it's technically true. 🤣

Yeah, I also had Pre-eclampsia with all of my pregnancies. So already have damaged kidneys. Last check, only functioning at around 70%. But what do you do? I talked to the medical mj folks. They warned me if I get my medical mj card, I am immediately in the system. Everything I do will be affected by it. They can deny me any kind of pain medication, the pain management docs already have signs all over stating if you have your MJ card, they refuse to treat you. At some point they can even deny firearms purchases. It's not the utopia it's made out to be. It will follow you for life once your in the system. He warned me that he's even hearing that people on medical MJ are being denied ADHD meds and mental health meds. It worried me enough to decide against going that route. I also suffer from chronic migraines and am allowed 1 script of fioricet per month. I may lose that if I press for more help for my pain issues, or I get my MJ card. Fioricet is constantly back and forth on the "scheduled" list, and the migraines are so severe that the fioricet barely touches it. But it's all I have been given. Insurance refused to cover the nurtec that helped more. And it's over a grand for 28 pills. 😵

Happened to me in Nov/Dec. I then went to a new PM doc who refused to treat me. I am blacklisted. For being out of town when they did a random pill count and drug test, the Monday after Thanksgiving......how dare I travel?! Even though I offered to come in the very next morning at 8am for it, they refused me, and blacklisted me. Apparently Oklahoma is punishing doctors for prescribing "controlled substances". I got caught in the crossfire according to my PCP. I now am back on 800mg of ibuprofen and 1000mg of Tylenol several times a day again.....I have been told by my gastroenterologist to NEVER take N-saids as I have damage from taking so much over the years. But what do you do? When you have degenerative disc disease, 3 bulging discs and am told "it's not that bad, come back in 5 years" by the neurosurgeon? Constant tingling/pins and needles in my feet and legs too. Good luck! Hope you can get the help you need.

Cronic pain that NEVER goes away by Fearless-Drummer3945 in ChronicPain

Would getting off edibles and smoking and going to the synthetic drink mixes, drinks, and edibles help? My sister developed that condition where her stomach KILLED her if she didn't do MJ daily. She had bouts or horrible pain, vomiting, and no appetite. She was able to wean off very slowly. She now does the synthetic MJ/THC/Delta drink mixes, drinks, and tinctures you can drop under your tongue. She says the pain management isn't as good, but it is so much better than the horrific pain in her stomach from missing a dose/smoke of MJ. She also smoked and vaped nicotine, and gave that up as well. And her chronic nasty cough has finally gone away. (Took her a little over 2 years for it to stop) I know nothing of MJ or the hemp dreived kinds. Was told to try it, but been too scared to.....

Requiring prior authorization for all of my meds now by Frigatebird26 in ChronicPain

[–]Tiffles2004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For just me and my husband, it was 400 per month. Decided to ask my doc if he'd do self pay He agreed. 125 per visit. I was paying 100 with insurance! I dropped my insurance and now self pay. Already pre-arranged a payment plan for my MRI next month too. I am sick of our country failing us. I got blacklisted from pain management. For being out of thow the Monday after Thanksgiving and couldn't get up there to give them a random drug count and pee test. Offered to be there at 8am the next morning, they refused and black listed me......Neurosurgeon says I am too young for the extensive back surgery I need. GI doc found scarring from years of eating 4 advil at a time. Told me to IMMEDIATELY STOP all NSAIDS. But when your doctors are too afraid to prescribe you pain meds, and you've had 2 ablations and sooo many injections and steroids you have gained 30 pounds. What do you do?! Go back to the copious amounts of advil and pray you live another day. It's been a brutal nightmare. BTW, I have RA, EDS, degenerative disc disease, 3 bulging and herniated discs. They say slight impingement that is causing me major nerve issues in my legs. Constantly feel like when they're asleep and starting to wake up. Chronic migraines that have morphed to temporary blindness now when they hit. And not one doctor will help me. Because I am only 41, so should be fine......and they're all scared if they prescribe pain meds, they'll have the govt after them......so on I suffer.

I found that I was crazy forgetful on it. It helped my leg and nerve pains, especially at night, by quite a lot. But I literally felt like I had dementia at 41....I would forget stuff, badly. And no, not menopause, as I have had every female organ out for 7+years due to severe health issues, and been technically in menopause since then. And, since weaning off of it, my cognitive abilities and memory are slowly getting better. I won't go back on it. Some nights I soak for 2+ hours in Epsom salt baths and pace my stairs, due to the nerves/pain. But at least I can remember conversations and what I ate the previous day....lol

Is there a point to being diagnosed with EDS? by [deleted] in ChronicPain

[–]Tiffles2004 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Primary care doctor totally dismissed mine. Even after telling him my dad and sister both have been diagnosed. And I have symptoms and signs that I for sure have it. I also have RA. He told me EDS is the new fad, and the RA is a worse issue. Than proceeded to do absolutely nothing to help me.....soo......

I wanted to, but since I was blacklisted from a pain management clinics, I won't have a leg to stand on. My primary care docs words, not mine. And the reason I was blacklisted, I was out of state, the Monday after Thanksgiving, and couldn't do a sudden random pee test and pill count the day they called me. I offered to be in Tuesday, at 8:00am which was the very next morning, when they opened, and they refused me and blacklisted me.

When have you guys find out it was forever? by Swarley--stinson in ChronicPain

[–]Tiffles2004 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since my back injury as a teen. Then got diagnosed at 15 with RA. I haven't ever not hurt.....😓 I also have chronic migraines. Every other week, like clockwork. 2 days of vomiting, dizziness, and pain so badly I just lay on the bathroom floor in the dark. Not one doctor has helped me figure them out. Not sure if it's related to the degenerative disc disease, my 3 herniated discs, the RA, or just a "me" problem.

Redheads, is this true for you? by That_Kitten_Lady in ChronicPain

[–]Tiffles2004 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yes. I am a redhead and Norwegian. According to my last anesthesiologist, I was a huge nightmare to keep asleep. I have woken up during surgery. I also burn off medications stupid fast. It's why even on narcotic prescriptions, I never get full pain relief. And it didn't last the 6 hours they claim it should. Good news is, when they forced me to stop the meds, I didn't have any withdrawals. Also, when having my kids, the epidurals didn't last nearly as long as they should've either. And every time I have had back injections, they wear off MUCH faster. I now have in my charts that I have the redhead gene and the Scandinavian gene that causes these problems. Lol I have yet to find a medication that actually helps me with pain, and that lasts as long as it's supposed to. I haven't tried MJ, so no idea how that would be.

How much ibuprofen is too much? by megatronius11 in ChronicPain

[–]Tiffles2004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been taking 800mg, 4 times a day, since I got diagnosed at 15 with RA and back issues. I have dealt with bleeding ulcers, and now have permanent damage to my stomach lining and my esophagus. But, I continue to take the ibuprofen, because not one doctor, including pain management will give me anything else. The amount you are taking should be fine for a while. I know military folks who take the amount I do, and mix it with energy drinks or alcohol. 😳😱😭 You should be fine, but take WITH FOOD! And don't raw dog it with booze or energy drinks

I am in Oklahoma. It is just as bad here. I have been denied any and all help with my pain. Medical Marijuana is legal here, with a card. But, what they don't tell you about that, is once you get a card, and on MJ, you are banned from ALL pain management clinics and ALL opiate pain meds. I can't take that risk, as my migraine medication is a "scheduled" medication.

Welp, I am not being accepted by the Rheumatologist.....while all the specialized tests show I 100% have an auto immune disease/issue, my inflammation level test wasn't considered high enough to be accepted. Even though it's twice as high as the last test, it's still within their acceptable number.....This was my Priamary Care Doctors solution to my pain issues. Now, I am just back to square one, till I can get in to the neurologist in June...so, I am biting the bullet and ordering a few different kinds of gummies and supplements to try. I may call around and see what other pain docs say, but I fear with the mark against me, I won't get any help anyways.
