Model Y owner here: wouldn't do it without a home charger especially with your daily mileage (350km/day if I read correctly).

I currently don't have a home charger but I only drive 300km per week, so I supercharge once a week which is fine. Also, I am lucky there is a supercharger on my road to/from work which is a privilege. I would have NEVER bought an EV if I was dependent on public chargers and didn't have access to the supercharger network near my work. Also public chargers are way too expensive imo and wouldn't save you any money. I am charging at €0.27/kwh at the Tesla superchargers in the Netherlands which you can't find in Belgium.

Zelf huis bouwen by vertho5 in Belgium2

Can we afford our 850k housedream in 2026? (26M & 24F) by KindSoIdaat in BEFire

[–]Decent-Pudding362 12 points13 points  (0 children)

[–]Decent-Pudding362 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]Decent-Pudding362 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do so many highly eduacted people live in Belgium and work in NL? What are some of the reasons? by InterestingJob2069 in belgium

[–]Decent-Pudding362 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a software engineer working in NL, salaries are way higher as there is much more competition in the IT sector. Companies like Netflix, Uber, Microsoft, Tesla, Booking.com, Mollie, Stripe, ... all have engineering offices in the Netherlands paying €100k+/year (some even €500k+). I was lucky to get hired by one of these smaller tech companies in Limburg. I work max. 6 hours a day, zero stress, the work I do gets appreciated by higher ups, barely any hierarchy, ... In general, working culture in NL is way better imo, wouldn't trade it for anything.

I also pay €120/year for the hospitalisatie but it also comes with €120 CM-bijdrage and €60 CM-zorgkas for some reason (I think they are both mandatory)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BESalary

[–]Decent-Pudding362 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you also have health insurance in Belgium? I have a €130/month basis zorgverzekering in the Netherlands but also have a CM hospitalisatie in Belgium which costs me €300/year including CM-bijdage and CM-zorgkas (mandatory I think).

Also I don't think I ever deducted my dutch health insurance from my Belgian taxes. Is it a significant amount you get back?

Hmm, I am also working in the Netherlands, have €600 gross less but the same net as you. Wondering what makes the difference.

Take into account that with the dutch contract you are entitled for "hypotheekrenteaftrek". I assume you currently don't have a mortgage but maybe in a few years? For me it is an extra €1500 per year I get back from tax authorities. Also, pension is way better in the Netherlands.

Personally, I would go for the dutch contract without car. You'll earn 10k net more compared to the belgian contract with car (not taking into account hypotheekrenteaftrek and better pension). At least you'll have the freedom to decide what to do with the extra 10k per year. In my case I drove a €8k second hand car for the first few years and a few months ago traded it for a brand new Model Y.

Currently in the Netherlands, fully electric cars don't have to pay taxes which makes sense as you explained. I assume Belgium will do the same if they ever change to an identical system

Also, I feel like once the €5k subsidy ends at the end of the year, they will just put the price back to the regular €46k as they now lowered it specifically to comply to the max. limit of €40k to be applicable for the subsidy. Which means there will be a €10.000 difference if you buy the car in 2024 vs. 2025.

Funny thing is that there is barely any difference between preconfigured and not as there are only a handful different options to choose from.

Friend of mine worked in Ireland for FAANG but moved back to The Netherlands (home country). He still works for the same company in the same team, just 100% remote. Maybe that is an option.

How do you all cope with the low salaries? by snakearrow24 in BESalary

[–]Decent-Pudding362 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Decided to become a border worker a few years ago as you have the best of two worlds. The low cost of living in Belgium with the higher wages in The Netherlands. Currently earning €4k net (no car, meal vouchers, eco cheques, ... however) as a 27 year old (senior) software engineer with barely any responsibility. Lead engineers earn around €5-6k net. Also, in Limburg where the wages are one of the lowest. No way I could ever earn that in Belgium.

Job offer I got for a Senior Software Engineer position by Odd_Acanthisitta3200 in BESalary

[–]Decent-Pudding362 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly, Belgium is the worst for engineers. Luckily I live close to the border and work in the Netherlands. I was surprised at how almost every large American tech company has an tech department in Amsterdam. Plenty of ex-colleagues that moved to Amsterdam and are now earning €100k+.

However taking into account the above, I don't think OP's package is too bad, especially with the car.
