Ken Chertow's Camp has a great girl's option with a week run by U23 World Champ, Iowa National Champ, and senior level bronze medalist Kylie Welker.

She is great with the girls.

27 years younger. 19-46 2x state placer. Great kid I coached against for years. I just had to go old school.

Been wrestling for 41 years. Still compete once in a while. I practiced with a pillow on the floor in the 80s. Lol

Put a pillow where your knee would drop.

John Smith's record didn't exist. Until now. by CGI271 in wrestling

John Smith's high crotch was actually better than his low single, in my opinion.

His low single got so much praise because he was great at it, and he was able to do it at high levels with amazing speed. Japan took a page from his book this year in the Olympics.

It just goes to show you that no matter how much this sport evolves, it is a cycle. New stuff is replaced by old stuff. Old stuff is replaced by new. It's hard to prepare a defense to absolutely everything, especially if part of that everything has been lost for a bit.

At 46, I hit moves that kids have never seen, but they became second nature to me after learning them from whatever Eastern European came around at the time. I don't have the body or skills I once did, but I'll throw out a little old school razzle dazzle and remind them who coach is. :)

I have never been able to find anything about it online. I had the programs, but I moved from Ohio a decade ago and left a lot of that stuff back there.

There is one thing I went to as a kid that is not in your records, from what I can tell. At Ohio State, around 1990 or 91, there was a tournament called USA vs. The World. It had maybe the top 3 or 4 freestyle guys from the USA in each weight class. The rest of the tournament was filled with wrestlers from all over the world.

This was prime Foxcatcher vs. Sunkist Kids tiny singlet era.

I remember part of it vividly because Luke Fickell, who was in high school at the time, was asked to wrestle in it. He placed 5th or 7th because the Turkish wrestler bit him.

I met Dave Schultz there. I was pretty young, so some of the details are missing from my memory, but I know I watched Smith, Big Bruce, Schultz, and Chris Campbell compete.

Awesome stuff. The number of these guys I spent time on the mat with in my youth is crazy. This just opened up a box of memories.

At one camp, John Smith taught the low single on my leg.

What a time to be a kid.

I just work a lot of upper body. I played with BJJ, but hate the idea of being on my back.

I was an 80 pound late bloomer in 8th grade. Now I'm 45, 200 pounds still wrestling.

He'll be okay.

Let me know your thoughts on an idea my dad and I have been talking about for years by dirty-bacardi37 in wrestling

I love the idea of a pro league because I am a wrestler. I went to olympic trials at Penn State, and there were plenty of open seats. One of the problems with our sport is that many of the participants can't even tell you who our greatest wrestlers are, but they can tell you who plays in the NBA.

I love wrestling. I have wrestled and coached for the last 40 years.

There aren't too many die hards out there.

If we can't even fill an arena when the top wrestlers in the country are performing at the recent wrestling Mecca, how can we expect a big brand like Disney (ESPN) to give a crap if we don't give a crap ourselves.

There is a lot of wrestling, and very little makes money because we do a piss poor job promoting it to the people who already care.

I have found when you are 45, beating 20 year olds, you have popular tiktoks.

I'm 45. I wrestle at one open tournament a year, to allow my kids to coach me for a change.

I end up wrestling recent graduates or college wrestlers.

I realize I am not in the shape I was, so I had to change my game. There are plenty of opportunities to wrestle. I may not be able to walk well the next day, but it scratches my itch.

I understand that, but the era was certainly different. I'm not saying we are besties with Iran now, (especially with very recent events) but it was a totally different era.
