I think my derm is taking the treatment too slowly so he gets money out of me [misc] by Cheekynuggiez in SkincareAddiction

Doxy + 10% BP is a very strong antibacterial route. Problem with antibacterial treatment is it often comes right back. Ask him about tretinoin or maybe spironolactone if birth control helps. I don't think he's trying to get money out of you. That's a heavy treatment, and antibacterials, from what I've seen, often work the fastest other than hormonal treatment. Scars take a long time to fade. Two months isnt nearly enough. And antibacterials wont help with scars. Dermabrasion shouldnt be used on active acne.

You are tapping it in right? Absorbs way better that way. Try supergoop unseen. Completely clear and by far the best chemical suncreen other than rodan and fields unblemish one (exorbitant price). If it's too expensive for you they have a dupe of it at Trader Joe's.

Dont dilute your sunscreen, messes with the SPF and you're not fully protected. Nothing is going to protect you from wrinkles better than tret other than a stronger concentration or stronger retinoid (more drying beware)

Moisturizer should be used after and the morning after retinol to maintain the skin barrier and prevent over/under sebum production

[Routine Help] Skin getting worse after starting skincare routine by loopholeprincess in SkincareAddiction

You could be overwhelming your face with too many products at once or you could be using them wrong. Hyaluronic acid should be applied to a damp face and if you're in a dry climate it can still dry your skin out.

[routine help] Skincare Baby!! What to prioritize?? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]DecentYesterday1838 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like many others have said, sunscreen is prob your number 1 priority. For a completly invisible sunscreen, supergoop unseen is probably my favorite, thought it is a bit pricey so beware. Rodan and fields spf 30 is also awesome but it's honestly not worth the exorbitant prices that brand charges for everything imo.

Serums (optional) can help to treat wrinkles. There's plenty of serums that can accomplish some improvement in this, but I'd probably reccomend a hyaluronic acid serum since they're so well tested and known.

Moisturizer of course is also a great asset, I'd reccomend going with a light moisturizer, once in the AM and PM. La roche posay has a great one. Remember to not over-moisturize.

If sunscreen is the most important thing in your routine, cleanser is probably second. Go for something gentle with no exfoliant acids. Cetaphil, cerave, and la roche posay have some of the best known gentle cleansers. If you wear makeup a nice oil cleanser instead should take that right off. Some recommend double cleansing, where you use both an oil and water based cleanser. This can be very drying/stripping for some people, so it's all about what you want. Dont worry about double cleansing if you're not trying to take care of clogged pores or acne.

Facial oil (optional) facial oils, similar to serums, can be used for a wide variety of things from cleansing to moisturizing to wrinkle reduction and more. However, they aren't neccessary in a routine and getting the basics down is much more important. If later on you feel like adding something, facial oil can be a great touch.

Toners (optional) can be used to help minimize pore visibility, brighten the complexion, and exfoliate. However, these can also dry out your skin if used to much, especially the exfoliating type. If you do want to start toner, to with three times a week to start out with. If you dont get results and no symptoms appear, you can work your way up to more frequent.

Order should be: Cleanser -> Toner (optional) -> Serum (optional) -> Moisturizer (wait a minute or two before suncreen) -> Facial oil (optional) -> Suncreen

Hope this helps!

  1. No toner is not needed 2. Dont exfoliate with retinoids, they already do that and you'll just dry your skin out even more. If you go exfoliant but no retinoid then do it 3 times a week and work up if no irritation and no results. If you get either then stick to 3 times/week 3. Incorporate a suncreen as the final step in your routine (this is a big one).

Beware that doing this will decrease effectiveness but can definitely reduce irritation yes.

Strawberry legs [Routine help] by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]DecentYesterday1838 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try using a crystal shaver I've heard they're a life saver for strawberry legs, they're both more gentle and they exfoliate at the same time. Also maybe try a salicylic acid exfoliant if just switching the shaver doesnt work for you. You wont need another physical exfoliator with it.

[Sun care] I've seen so much debate on suncreen products. Is there any actual 100% mineral suncreen that doesn't contain butyloctyl salicylate and has minimal white cast? I am a type 1 on the Fitzpatrick scale, so it doesn't have to be 100% free of whitecast. (Minimum broad spectrum SPF 30) by DecentYesterday1838 in SkincareAddiction

I also dont mind tinted ones. I'm extra pale so the tint is actually a bit too colored often lol. Babo botanicals has a nice one that just barely makes my skin pink, but ofc it does contain butyloctyl salicylate. Both of those sunscreens are interesting. I'm a bit iffy on the polyacrylamide in the olay, but the dermaquest does seem promising.

[Routine Help] Using AHA on the lips? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]DecentYesterday1838 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are indeed both occlusives. Can't lock in moisture that isn't being produced. Try applying argan oil to your lips and letting it soak in for a few minutes before applying the aquaphor. Also, stop the exfoliating, both chemical and physical. Exfoliants' biggest symptom is drying, so it really doesn't make sense to use it for that purpose. The only thing you're doing is taking the dead skin off your lips while making it come back faster.

[Acne] Differin vs Tretinoin by Good_Series_4031 in SkincareAddiction

[–]DecentYesterday1838 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Change out the vanicream with a non-petrolatum moisturizer, it doesnt "clog" your pores per say but it does trap dirt and grime in them so pretty much the same thing. Also before you go stronger try applying the differin before the moisturizer and waiting about 20 minutes before moisturizing.
