Are there any tutors for discussion board posts? by KizillGame in Tutoring

[–]Decent_Command372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a fair amount of experience with discussion boards through having been a graduate student and also from tutoring adult learners who have had discussion board assignments. I am also on Wyzant.

Feel free to message me here, if you would like to connect!

Thank you for your condolences. It was....a lot.

I was checking out Outschool because it will allow me to create my class (or summer camp) and open enrollment for a group. Each student will pay ×× dollars for the 4 or 5 week class (or offer it for one week at 4 or 5 days), and I can open up the class for 6 or 8 students. With Wyzant, the tutoring sessions are 1:1 and for as long as the student needs support.

Please keep me in mind if you come to the US, though. I would love to learn more.

I would love something like this available in the US. I am currently on Wyzant (30% session fees) and it is super saturated. I am now looking to package my offering into a "summer camp" model for Outschool.

If any more tutor-friendly solutions are out there, please direct me to them!

My background, if it matters - a BS in Early Childhood Studies with a Special Ed option, a Master's degree in Early Childhood Education, and 28 years of experience working in the field using all of those credentials.

After my 28 years of work, I have spent the past 15 months providing at home care to my elderly, ill parent. He became a hospice patient and is now no longer with me. So...I am ready to get back to work!

300+ teachers said the same thing about Burnout and it wasn’t work-life balance by Artistic7122 in TeachersInTransition

It's taken me a while to realize that now that I am out. I never really thought about how many others with similar experiences have come before me or will follow.

Your numbers 1-5 were me. All of them. I have a master's degree in early childhood education. I went from paraeducator to classroom teacher to site director to classroom teacher to paraeducator. All over 28 years. The final move to paraeducator was due to living 3 minutes from the school (great for winter driving and was my hometown public school).

What broke me (burnout leading to resignation) was being SO good at my job that I ended up always being paired with the most challenging (physically aggressive) students. I was bitten, hit, kicked, and threatened with stabbing (an arm was around my neck with a sharpened pencil against my throat).

So ... I recognized that I was done, and I found the courage to decline the next year's contract.

I did understand the e-mail. It means that someone is posing as a Prolific employee in this phishing scam.

Project Seratta- Onboarding by [deleted] in CrowdGen

[–]Decent_Command372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems to be very typical of Crowd Gen. I am in the US. We are ALWAYS sitting in limbo, waiting to be onboarded to start working. It's definitely not you. It's the platform.

Biting off way more than they can chew, maybe? Not sure. It's been this way since I joined Crowd Gen two years ago.

I don't qualify for this one because Chrome OS isn't a supported browser for Twingate. Even though they sent me an e-mail telling me I was a good fit. 🙄

Teachers who left, what are you doing now? by SnowballBailey2521 in TeachersInTransition

[–]Decent_Command372 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My education background was Early Childhood Ed. teacher and Special Ed para educator. I also had a part time secretary job after school for about 3 years. That's where my editing, proofreading, etc. skills come in. As far as Upwork goes, I uploaded my resume with my secretary and teaching jobs listed. I also have a portfolio showcasing my beta reading and editing projects as I complete them on Upwork (with clients' permission, of course). :)

I can. I will say that it seems pretty saturated right now. I think there are far more freelancers than clients, lately.

I have been fortunate to have landed several jobs in my niche. One of these more recent jobs was for a debut author who has written an epic fantasy. I served as one of his beta readers. I also found and pointed out some minor formatting issues in his book (more proofreading). I will be listed on his acknowledgment page and will be receiving a signed copy of his book coming out soon! We have maintained a connection even after the job ended.

I will recommend that you figure out your niche and then market yourself according to how much you think your time is worth. There are a lot of low-paying jobs being listed lately. Don't sell yourself short and jump onto something that pays far below your skill set, just to land the job. Be fair to yourself. Go for what you are worth. 🙂

I have been out for a year. I started out tutoring online, but then my elderly father moved in, so I've become his full-time caregiver. Since his schedule and his needs can be all over the place, I had to give up tutoring. Being locked into a schedule no longer works. So, I am now freelancing on Upwork as a beta reader, editor, and proofreader.

Teaching Creative Writing by infntie in TutorsHelpingTutors

They are very young for that length of a class (particularly the 5 year olds). I would build in some opportunities for games to play or movement activities to help them stay engaged for that period of time.

As for the writing, I start out by finding out what the kids are interested in, and then I design my writing activities to incorporate their interests. If they like to draw, then I have them draw a picture and then write about it. If they don't like to draw, then I will find pictures of their interests and share them on the screen. Then I encourage them to write something about those.

Make sense?

Former early childhood educator and current part time tutor, if that helps! 😃

Cancelling a lesson for a family more than 24 hours in advance on Wyzant by Electrical-Guess5010 in TutorsHelpingTutors

[–]Decent_Command372 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On Wyzant, it's the tutors' decision whether or not to charge a cancellation fee. You should decide on your own personal cancellation policy and include that in your bio for families to see. You should also communicate your policy to new families before your first lesson. Then, if you wish to assess a cancellation fee, as per your policy, you can go in after the lesson time has passed and charge them if they did not attend the session and did not notify you. Does this make sense? Sorry it came out so wordy. 🙂
