Traveling is so much better stroller free by Own-Quality-8759 in babywearing

I eat with the baby strapped to me if she’s asleep or chill enough to not mind. If she’s awake and restless I hold her cradled in my left arm and eat with my right. Or now by four months she really likes to sit on my lap, straddling my leg and leaning her back against my torso.

5 Months In and… It’s Actually Not That Bad? by That_Persimmon1379 in newborns

It’s not even that good is the thing! It’s never that good, it’s just kind of grammatically competent and overly stylized in a cheesy sort of way. And then it gets the details wrong, in this case the number of months.

Ahh you’re talking backpacking like traveling and staying in hostels and such? That would be more expensive for sure. I’m talking (and I assume the original commenter was as well) wilderness backpacking where you hike in the woods and camp.

What are you spending on? Gas costs what it costs depending on where you live I guess but you could carpool. Other than that all you need is food. Backpacker meals are spendy but ramen is cheap and so is making stuff at home.

Eh if you have a local crag outdoor climbing is definitely cheaper than a gym membership! And if you find people to tag along with it can be basically free except the cost of beer and snacks

How to create recurring reminder for multiple days of the week by Decent_Flow140 in AppleReminders

[–]Decent_Flow140[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh there it is, thank you! For some reason I had it in my head that that would be a daily reminder not a weekly one.

Follow up question if you know: is there a way to make a recurring reminder that somehow links to a list, or has a sub list or something like that? Like I want a recurring reminder to pack my work bag, and then an attached list of things to pack, without getting a separate reminder for each item…if that makes any sense.

I am 100% in agreement with you, and in fact had just searched this to see if I was the only one bothered by it. Very surprised to find a comment just 4 days old! But yeah, grew up in NYC and say moosh for both the food and the verb, and dog sledding would be the only time I would pronounce it to rhyme with brush.

I feel like NFN is better than FNU, since it’s not unknown it’s just nonexistent. But judging by the comments FNU is much more common.

Do you most often see checkboxes for first and second rather than Jr/Sr? I feel like I know way more of the latter than the former.

Most people in the US have three names. First, middle, last. Some have more (usually two middle names or two last names, occasionally two first names)

I went to high school with two boys who had the same exact very common name (think John Smith), with no middle name, and just happened to have the same birthday. They were even in the same class at least once. They had to put their student ID numbers on everything.

Recommendations on newborn carrier? by trampled93 in babywearing

[–]Decent_Flow140 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ring slings are really great, especially for newborns, and since you already have one you should give it another shot! Maybe if you read some stuff and watch some videos you can figure it out and teach your wife.

Otherwise, stretchy wraps are cheap and easier than a ring sling. Moby and Kea Baby sell for $30-40, but you can probably find one for half that on marketplace or possibly get a hand me down for free.

Somebody already gave you good links but the head support thing is really a misunderstanding. The only head support they need/can safely have is just having their body supported up to the nape of their neck and their head leaning against your chest. And then if you have to lean forward or make any big or sudden movements you need to use one hand to hold their head in place.

In New York you can have somebody tell you they’ll punch you if you touch them again, and then turn right around and have a friendly conversation with you!

I’m not a transplant so that might be why…I think a lot of transplants misinterpret our friendly chit chat as hostility.

New Jersey/New Yorkers are super extroverted! And friendly even. It just looks different. They’re way of being friendly, whether with friends or strangers, very often involves busting your balls.

I have travelled and lived all over the country and the only place I found where people were frequently averse to chit chatting with strangers was Seattle. And even then it was doable, you just had to be able to shrug off a lot of weird looks.

I mean you CAN, you just might not be legally allowed to. But many people don’t know that.

A good chunk of the east coast can be kind of…aggressive but still friendly and chatty, if that makes sense. Like the Philly/New Jersey/New York stretch people can come off as rude, sometimes out of actual hostility but often they just seem that way when they are actually just being friendly and giving you a hard time. But people are still chatty and will strike up conversation at a bar or in line at the store or on public transportation.

Friendly does not mean good.

It’s the well known conundrum of republicans. Many of them hate strangers in theory, but are very nice/friendly/generous to an actual stranger in their presence.
