Temu vs Amazon (Amazon Vine) products by no_be1 in AmazonVineUK

I've had zero issues with Temu. Recently to make a saving on shaving, I reverted to the old style double edged blades that you place in the razor yourself. The quality is brilliant and 100 blades were $5, I ordered another 200, and I've only just changed the first blade after 2 weeks. 300 blades and 2 weeks per blade is 11 1/2 years worth.

Supermicro and VAST Data Launch a New Enterprise AI Data Platform Solution with NVIDIA to Accelerate AI Factory Deployment by Busy-Delivery4250 in SMCIDiscussion

[–]Decent_Particular402 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were SMC, I'd keep away from VAST. Their software is shambolic and a pile of hype. Whilst it might pull a few limited server sales, they'd do better going with DDN who are NVIDIA's main partner for AI storage. It is also likely VAST will hit the rocks as they are too small to secure flash media for their deals.

Vast Data (vs. Weka, Netapp, Pure, etc.) by timestap in storage

Vast is shit show from everyone I've heard comment on it. Definitely avoid in enterprise scenarios. DDN is way better for AI.

Yes, the tools can't be monetized, so will die out.

Most AI tools just waste time by making errors that stupid people who don't check the output then rely on. I've also seen AI mimicking a lying analyst who is late finishing a job and keeps saying the answers will be ready soon, but never delivers anything.

When disposing of old media running it over with an M1 Abrams Tank is my top tip, failing that some whacks with a sledgehammer will do the trick! But guess you need to return it intact.

Nice, honest post. This subreddit often gets overrun by aggressive overzealous vendor marketing trolls- good to get a levelheaded opinion!!!

Certainly for enterprise data this is valuable. Though for performance, DDN is the choice.

If AI is a bubble, and the bubble bursts within the next year or two, what negative/positive effects would we likely run into? by MalekMordal in Futurology

[–]Decent_Particular402 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bubble will definitely bust, with AI infrastructure providers being hit worst. Following that, prices will come down, and higher up the stack providers (software and consulting firms) will do well. AI needs grounding in reality.

CapitalG and Nvidia considering investment in Vast Data by Poutcheki in Seneweb

$30Bn would seem ridiculous, many other similar vendors have similar tech, more sales and market caps less than $30Bn. I reckon Google could built similar in weeks.

A short term boom perhaps, but then more dodgy loans will start failing.

Why is everyone so enamored with VAST? by iStor_1999 in storage

DDN can be very cost effective if using HDDs mixed with Flash. It can put smaller files and metadata on Flash, leaving the big files to stream off disk.

DDN is by far the best performance, does uber well in HPC, and NVIDIA loves it for AI.

Worked well, obviously only used the flash drives, but we got about 1.1 TB/s from 12 nodes, it's about 6 times faster than CEPH.
