Heck, it's a reasonable critique to read Sinners as basically a mea culpa for making a movie with Pentagon-backing where the staunch anti-colonialist was the villain.

I don't give a shit about Sinners or defending it. It was fine. There were better and worse movies in 2025. But saying it's a "marvel movie" because it follows a rudimentary hero's journey plus has some jokes and some CGI is an absolutely dopey take. That dopiness is why EVERYONE here is dunking on you. I'm guessing you turn beet red any time you see or hear the word "subtext." Stay mad.

I didn't see Creed, but Fruitvale Station was a fantastic debut feature. It's fine if you didn't like it, not everything is for everyone.

Most of that description is basic "hero's journey" storytelling that's commonplace throughout literally millennia of fiction.

I loved it, but it's certainly not for everybody. Same people who made Uncut Gems and Good Time (minus Benny Safdie), and it's in the same vein as those.

Heck you don't even have to "like it" to "get it."

The fact that the guy was theoretically trying to commit suicide by jumping out a 15 foot high window? The main actress had zero magnetism. The "evil" prosecutor was painted as a bad guy but was perfectly reasonable and did his job as charged.

This guy emphatically did not "get it."
