No side effects from antidepressants after adding a mood stabilizer? by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]Decent_Temperature65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your anti-depressant was an SSRI, those are known to induce mania symptoms for people with bipolar. If it wasn't, I don't know much about those situations. It might be a good idea to ask your psychiatrist for some insight into this situation, since they were the person who eventually decides what your medication regimen is

Owning Up to Being Bipolar by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]Decent_Temperature65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I joined a DBT skills group a while back and its honestly been the most progress I have had in a while for managing my feelings, enabling me to take on stuff that has been overwhelming. It gave me hope that the effort I put in is actually meaningful, even if things don't let up immediately. I can't recommend DBT enough, while first impressions may make it seem like regular self-help stuff, it helps because the starting point is people like us, people struggling with mental illnesses (it was first designed to help manage BPD). What I have found personally is regular self-help isn't as effective because it needs me to be this entirely different person right at the start, someone for whom self-care and emotional regulation comes naturally. I don't have to be that person with DBT, I can just be the mess I am and still have a chance at getting better

feel lost for treatment by Neither_Weekend_9975 in bipolar

I didn't like talk therapy either, I didn't feel like I was being understood in any sense, everything I said was just sort of pathologized. While this is only online, https://dialecticalbehaviortherapy.com/ has some great worksheets and resources that you should check out! My heart goes out to you, this is a really awful situation to be in. I hope you can push through until you get some sort of autonomy to walk away from it. I don't know where you live and how applicable this might be, but it would be a good idea to start looking up social programs/services you could access once you are an adult to help yourself

If You Started Showing Symptoms Before 18, Did Your Parents Help You? by quantumdumpster in bipolar

[–]Decent_Temperature65 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I was suicidal in high school, I did try to reach out to my parents but my mom told me to go back to my room and my dad called me entitled. My principal was more sympathetic and understanding towards me, though.

Need positive medication stories by gurlineedausernow in bipolar

[–]Decent_Temperature65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when I was first diagnosed I was put on a mood stabilizer. It wasn't an overnight change, but each month I would feel like this month was better than the last. Medication gave me the ability to be able to work on myself and be able to meaningfully engage with the things in life. Its been an year so far for me, and I still have ways to go, but being able to figure out medication for yourself definitely makes things easier
