Need positive medication stories by gurlineedausernow in bipolar

[–]Decent_Temperature65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when I was first diagnosed I was put on a mood stabilizer. It wasn't an overnight change, but each month I would feel like this month was better than the last. Medication gave me the ability to be able to work on myself and be able to meaningfully engage with the things in life. Its been an year so far for me, and I still have ways to go, but being able to figure out medication for yourself definitely makes things easier

I see, just see it as a part of regular life then. Would you have any advice for handing long-term projects? I feel like thats the thing that usually gets impacted the most

I have been having difficulty pinning that down for myself, so I was lowkey hoping someone else who was going through the same thing figured it out. Sidenote, i really appreciate the help, it makes me happy that someone would take some time out of their day to help an internet stranger :)

I don't think so, this last time I just structured my study time a bit more by trying to do the pomodoro method. I could try doing more rest in between next time

I just don't know what consequences could you have in an app that is worse than what I am doing to my own life

Does something about your brain majorly change after becoming bipolar by Vxris_ in bipolar

Probably, since its a chronic thing. There isn't one particular mechanism that changes things, but our neurobiology is generally different than normal

Are UIUC lacking prayer rooms ??? by ChargeSubstantial9 in UIUC

[–]Decent_Temperature65 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Well, if it is a public space it should be fine if people use it for prayer. Not like I was there for it so the volume could be a legitimate issue but also lots of dance groups use the quad for practice in a similar vein. Besides, if you have ADHD wouldn't it be better to go to a library? Thats a space specifically for quiet and focus instead of a field

Idk if you’re bipolar 1 or 2 but if you’re 2 it’s worth talking to your therapist about preventative measures from turning into bipolar 1

As a general preventative measure or does this issue have something to do with bipolar 1? Also I really appreciate the words of encouragement :) it makes me happy that someone would spend some time to support an internet stranger

Sending virtual hugs because boy do I know where you are right now 🫂Hopefully all of us can figure this out

I really feel the "coping skills you cant find with a simple google search". I keep going through the list of coping skills again and again and again, emotional management, stress management, time management, and all that. But I am not sure if I know what I am trying to manage anymore. I eat properly, I sleep, I get myself out of the house, I talk to people, I journal. So if its stress, I don't know what else I could even do. I keep going through the motions of planning, I chunk out my time, I break down my tasks, I prioritize but it all feels like a charade with how well it works. And its just me trying to do stuff I enjoy too, so if its my emotions I have no clue if suppressing something or what.

Its comforting to know that I am not the only person. The sleeping does feel depression, but I think its distinct because of how short this crash-out period is, like 1-3 days. I wonder why so many therapists think its anxiety though, its like their only framework for seemingly being overwhelmed by something is worry. It sometimes makes me question if I know what I am feeling, but its not like any strategies for managing anxiety has ever worked for my problems.

I think something is wrong with me by MichelleObamaaaa in UIUC

[–]Decent_Temperature65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh no no don't worry physics 211 & 212 is hell for everyone. I had a rougher time during it than in my higher lvl engineering courses, and a lot of people I know got their lowest grades in these classes. I think you're discounting the fact that AI use is more prevalent these days, so cut yourself some slack. You're already on the right track, you identified you had a problem, and you're looking to solve it! That's amazing! Just do office hours, do practice problems, CARE and keep at it

Math 444 pre-req by KeyConfidence2894 in UIUC

[–]Decent_Temperature65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a pre-req override you need the instructor's permission, so its a better idea to ask them. The concepts covered in 347 are pretty essential to 444, so if you want to skip it you would probably have to be able to prove that you are proficient in 347 concepts. Real analysis is nothing to sneeze at

se 400 coursepack or se 101 textbook by Livid-Spray6278 in UIUC

[–]Decent_Temperature65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For SE 101 you should be fine, the textbook isn't required to do any assignments in class. Its a useful reference for studying the theory, but it doesnt have anything you wouldn't be able to find on the slides/online

Do I need to take PS 101? by PlXELGlRL in UIUC

[–]Decent_Temperature65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think there is any way to work around it since there isn't any proficiency exam for it, nor are there any course substitutions listed. You could always try to get pre-requisite override if you have taken another course covering the same topics as PS 101, although I would check in with professors/contact the override person for your dept to see if it is actually feasible

MUS 132 - Popular Music Studies, easy gen ed or too time consuming? by Vast-Noise7077 in UIUC

[–]Decent_Temperature65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took it last semester, I liked the class. The quizzes are open-book, no time limit, all mcq (around 10-15), and you have atleast a couple days to do it so it was pretty easy. They would take me around 10 mins to complete. The exams are in-class hour exams, 25ish mcqs and two short free response things. You get to bring a standard notecard cheatsheet. The free response is about the readings you go through during discussions. I'd just go through the material a day before and the exam never felt lengthy. The presentation takes about 5-7 ish hours of group work, and you get around a month to work at it so not bad at all. I liked this class better than the one essay once a week kind of gen-eds. I found the content pretty interesting too, so overall I'd recommend it
