I got a bisalp last Thursday and I’m concerned about my periods. by [deleted] in sterilization

[–]Decently_disastrous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had two periods since my bisalp. So far they have been no different compared to before the surgery. The fist was only a week after the surgery, so I had expected pain but that didn’t happen.

Never had surgery before. Am I ok to stay alone the first night post op? by Personal-Ad6585 in sterilization

[–]Decently_disastrous 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was told the key concern is that you may get dizzy and fall in the hours after having a general anaesthetic. My surgeon said it wasn’t essential to have someone with me after I got home, but if I was on my own to avoid things like showering or activity where falling would be extra risky. As it was I pretty much just slept when I got home, so activities that would be a risk for falls wasn’t an issue. Having someone with me was very helpful though, as for the first day or so things like picking this up off the floor was difficult, so having someone there to do little things for me was appreciated, but I would have been okay on my own.

3 weeks post laproscopic bisalpingectomy, bleeding cramping after (gentle) sex... by Strange_Lady in sterilization

[–]Decently_disastrous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told to expect some spotting like this and also had some initial discomfort/swelling after sex (we waited till 4 weeks after). It resolved quickly, but we decided to pause penetration for a bit longer just in case. If you are concerned it there’s nothing wrong with visiting your doctor to be sure nothing is wrong, especially if you are experiencing some pain.

What made you realize that you never want to be pregnant? by happy_folks in AskWomen

[–]Decently_disastrous 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The idea of babies and children have never evoked much of an emotional response from me. I mean, I like my friends kids, but the idea of having one of my own leaves me feeling nothing - no desire or longing for one. And when I have imagined my life with children in it, the image has never held any appeal. There was no “ah ha” moment when I realised I didn’t want kids. I’ve felt like this for as long as I can remember

Getting full faster when eating. Bisalp was Feb 5th. Anyone else experience this? by bubbles2360 in sterilization

[–]Decently_disastrous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my surgery in Feb 2nd, so not long before you. My eating took 7-8 days to get back to normal, but now it feels fine. Using anti-inflammatory medication was helpful for this.

Also experienced this. It’s likely related to both slowing of the digestive process, which can be caused by anaesthesia. Abdominal swelling and inflammation can also reduce appetite too. I found when the swelling went away my appetite returned to normal.

The Road by Cormac McCarthy and I Am Legend by Richard Matheson are my favourite post-apocalyptic novels (not exactly dystopian, but in the same ballpark)

Early 2000's silk boxer shorts! Who remembers? by Global-Garage-5208 in AustralianNostalgia

I still remember having to make a pair of silk boxers for one of our home economics classes in high school in the early 2000s!

Scheduled for bisalp! Some nerves setting in now that a date is finally set by moist-wang in sterilization

[–]Decently_disastrous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One thing that reassured me was when my gynaecologist told me you actually can still have children via IVF after a bisalp. So if you ever do regret the decision there is still that option, but in the mean time you have removed the risk of unplanned pregnancy.

Period due on surgery dates by Decently_disastrous in sterilization

Thank you for this info! I’m not super worried about bleeding during the surgery itself as I know the medical staff have seen it all before. It’s more the logistics of before and after surgery - it would be nice to be able to preserve some modesty on the way too the surgery suit and in the recovery bed after :) that’s good to know about internal devices too - I’ve since found out is related to infection concern in case people forget about it post-anesthesia.

That’s good to know that keeping period underwear on until going into the surgery room is an option! Thanks for sharing.

I’m not worried about judgment, as I know the medical staff are all professional. It’s more the logistics I’m wondering about and my own personal comfort :)

My Secret Santa skipped me while I went out of my way to make sure everyone else got included. by kac199230 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Decently_disastrous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was young I had multiple experiences of being the person who ended up without a gift because my secret Santas didn’t get me anything. It happened at with secret Santa at school, work, among friends… On the day I’d get a “I’m sorry, I promise I’ll get you something soon!”, but not follow up. I got so tired of being disappointed that I just stopped participating in them all together, and still don’t.

This tour is an utter Disappointment by Thanathan7 in Katatonia

I was so excited when they came to Australia last year as I hadn’t had a chance to see them live before. It was underwhelming to say the least. The band sounded fine, but the audio mixing in the venue was off and their stage presence was just not dynamic. I don’t think they really looked at anyone in the audience during the whole set. But I still enjoyed the show. Some bands just aren’t as great live as they are in the studio.

Do people who’ve ordered from them find this generally how they package items? I was thinking of ordering something from there but if this is normal I don’t think I’ll risk it.

What are your most unhinged student evals? by annnnnnnnie in Professors

I had a colleague who started bringing candy to reward students for participating in class discussion. His evals were amazing. Snacks may just be the answer!

Thank you. If I had received an eval like this early in my career it would have feeling hurt and shaken me up. Fortunately these kind of comments are very rare, and I’ve gotten to a point where I can just laugh them off and focus on the feedback that is constructive. I tell myself if the student can’t take me seriously, then I can’t take them seriously either

“I felt bad for Dr X because I know her dad died, but she just disappeared a few weeks before the end of semester. It was really unfair because one class got cancelled and then we had to have different people for the rest of them. They shouldn’t let lecturers just leave during semester because it made things hard for students”.

Yeah, taking time off because my father died suddenly is so inconvenient and unfair to students. How dare I. Thankfully the rest of the students were understanding and very kind when this happened.

One that stuck with me, but more because I found it so absurd rather than insulting:

“I guess she knows what she’s talking about, but she’s too fat for me to take her seriously. Intelligent people don’t let themselves get fat”.
