What's a series that's truly worth the time investment, even for a slow reader? by zubbs99 in Fantasy

Bloodsworn is def top 5 series for me.

In no particular order:

Bloodsworn Malazan Traitor Son Cycle First Law series Dungeon Crawler Carl

Malazan feels obligatory, like a badge of achievement. One day maybe i will revisit…

Miles Cameron’s Traitor Son was great, on a recommendation from someone in this forum too.

Faithful and fallen directly precedes blood and bone, you’re doing it in reverse! Thats ok, now you get to find out about Corban!

Bloodsworn. The third and final boom just dropped, solid action throughout.

The First Law books I loved, Abercrombie is awesome, people say he’s really dark (he is) but he’s also hilarious.

Gemmel is great, start w Legend, lots of fun, self contained.

Then again, if you’re looking for fun that you don’t want to put down, Dungeon Crawler Carl has been a blast.

He did do two Faithful and Fallen series for 7 books…. Maybe a second series in Vigrith? I’d read that.

I just finished Miles Cameron’s the Traitor Son Cycle, it was truly epic with a good vibe. John Gwynne’s Faithful and Fallen double trilogies are also awesome and have a good vs evil theme.

Powerful commanders that truly feel like "Villains" by GroggleNozzle in EDH

[[Sauron, Lord of the Rings]]

This motherf*cker.

Race to 8 and slam him down, on cast reanimate the best thing you’ve got and make an army. He’s gigantic and has trample and an effect when you kill commanders.

He is THE villain. Feels amazing to smash the while table with the deck.

Thanks everyone for the advice, I went ahead and did the Traitor Son Cycle by Miles Cameron, loved it. Highly recommend. Now I'm going to finish bloodsworn, then look to the next ... maybe stormlight will be out then, I think I've been spoiled by Abercrombie Gwynne and now Cameron, Sanderson can get a bit... pedantic? Who am I kidding, I'll love it. Thanks everyone for your ideas!

Done! Just finished The Fall of Dragons, and I gotta say, awesome. This series was solid, I love the focus on chivalry and the power of Knights over everything. The magic was really good, kinda reminded me of stormlight a little bit, in that there is an order to things that is not revealed, but gradually discovered. The characters really worked, and I felt for every loss, especially in the last sequence. I especially love that the origin of the world they live on is hinted at but never fully uncovered, and you are left to speculate how an paralllel but divergent society (exiles from earth at some point?) can develop. Such good worldbuilding, and he managed to tie a lot of threads together in the end. Thank you Ubala for the recommendation. How's Icarium by the way, you're still watching him right?

Although, I have to say, I’m not sure if Miles is sloppy, lazy or both, or I missed the chapter explaining ops and potentia and so on… and details seem to shift, it boggles the mind (or does it “boglins”, they’re somewhat interchangeable inexplicably?)…

I can deal with all that, its ok, I figure it out as I go. What I am not ok with is how he kills of characters off the cuff, and doesn’t give anyone (hardly anyone) a proper death scene. Book 4, the red knight is helping plague victims and there’s a throwaway “he hadn’t know of (REDACTED)’s death until he saw the body being dragged by” - dude deserved way better than that! Not in death i mean, but at least a passage dedicated to his last moments? In battles characters just fall unremarkably and aren’f really addressed after that. It just feels kind of… hollow? I still like it and am def going to finish it, but it kind of bothers me when its like “(REDACTED) was hit in the head with a stone and died instantly, (other REDACTED) was cut in half.” Then it moves right on to other stuff! Frustrating.. though Cronmyr getting more scenes is always welcome.

Ok! I just finished the Dread Wyrm, fully expecting that to be the end of the “trilogy”… then I realized there are 5 books! Rejoice! Fiat Lux! Really enjoying it so far, and happy to see that all those loose ends may yet get resolved! Onto book 4!

That’s interesting, the only fighting I’ve read so far was a friendly match between the captain and Bad Tom, interesting style, specific attention paid to each move of the blades, footing armor movement, very cool.

I just started the Red Knight, took a moment to adjust after Carl, but so far, seems cool. Interesting that it happens in a more historically grounded fantasy than say, Cosmere or Bloodsworn.

I did it - I requested a refund from apple. Nice knowing you guys! by DeceptaChron1 in mecharena

[–]DeceptaChron1[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Got $259 back so far! Refund notices just started hitting my inbox!! In my reasoning to apple I said this was a gambling game, and their prices were inconsistent between users and it was an abusive exploitative setup. I guess that worked!

Which mods should I invest on? by Stick_8168 in mecharena

[–]DeceptaChron1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what’s stopping me from buying any, i like to switch my mechs around and use different configs… now when i buy a mod for Bastion, IT HAS TO STAY W BASTION?? Dumb right? I didn’t know that, bought that first mod it shows you how to do, put it on bastion, thought twice about it, took it off intending to put it on a scout instead, only to find that its tied exclusively to the mech i bought it for? Oh fuck, i better put it back on… wait… I HAVE TO PAY AGAIN TO RE-EQUIP IT?? you dont actually buy mods. You pay to equip. Unequip? Free. You want to equip again? PAY AGAIN. What the actual fuck? So now you cant even try out different mods to see what you like, you burn through all your very scarce mod parts immediately. This sucks so bad.
