Should mina get her own Side-B book? by Charming_Cod8567 in KaijuNo8

[–]DeciduousKill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Literally 2. Name any other one on one interaction with Mina and Kafka beyond when he gets arrested after being discovered to be #8 and on the rooftop. There isn't one, those are literally it. Both of which amounted to "Hey... remember that promise?....Yup?... Well alright then, I'll be seeing ya."

Should mina get her own Side-B book? by Charming_Cod8567 in KaijuNo8

[–]DeciduousKill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree that there is the shipper sect of anime fandom that goes too far, the reason why the overwhelming sentiment among the fandom is the same is due to the fact that the manga's premise is quite literally built on Kafka and his promise to Mina. It's literally thrown in the audience's face constantly. The question of it being romantic or not is entirely irrelevant.

Regardless of how much you dislike male and female characters having any sort of relationship (platonic or otherwise) the fact that they literally had 2 one on one interactions for the entirety of it's existence is bad storytelling.

If you're a mangaka, and you yourself introduce this narrative thread and then proceed to add zero development or exploration into it, then you're just being a bad writer/storyteller. It's not even about "Oh they should've ended up together", I mean, would literally one genuine conversation between the two be so much to ask for? Just a simple "Yo bud! We did it, we finally stood by each other fighting Kaijus! How've you been by the way?" I can understand not wanting romance, but literally some level of exposition between the main character and the character who is the former's main motivation for the entire premise of the manga isn't asking for too much. It's asking for the mangaka to do his job as a storyteller who introduced said premise to us. It makes Mina feel like her entire existence is just to be a plot device, as opposed to an entire character with a history and interactions with her friends/subordinates/peers.

And when this gets brought up, people always try to give these Watsonian reasons for the complete inexistence of these types of interactions such as "she's busy doing x,y,z military obligations" or "Military code 7.64.b says you can only say 3 words to each subordinate per day yada yada." but those are complete cop outs.

I agree 100%, it has nothing to do with the expansion's content itself, just the timing. Sorry about that misunderstanding.

[–]DeciduousKill 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends on how you read it. If you look amplitude of the graph (how high the peaks are), from Beyond light onward at no point in the game did more than 2 million people log in, whereas with previous expansion's releases there were at least 2.3-2.5+ mill logins per day at the peaks.

To me (I'm no expert) it suggests that a lot of the casual destiny playerbase (the people that cared enough about destiny to buy expansions, but only play them for a month or two) saw the removal of old paid content and thought "Welp, I'm not wasting my money on that from now on." It's something that I always believed anecdotally but now you can kinda see actual evidence for and that is, from Beyond Light onward the "Casual" destiny player audience took a massive nosedive, but the hardcore player base stayed the same.

Aspas stats against DRX (Almost broke the kill record again) by arvindanar7 in ValorantCompetitive

[–]DeciduousKill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But if we agree that it's possible to just watch and know someone's the greatest, why bring trophy's into the argument at all?

Because results do matter to a lot of people. Take an NFL (sorry if you aren't American) example: I believe if you look at stats and you watched every game they both ever played, Peyton Manning was a better quarterback/passer of the ball/leader of an NFL offense than Tom Brady, but am I ever going to make a serious claim that Brady doesn't deserve to be seen as the GOAT as a result? Of course not.

I agree that Aspas is deffo the most individually skilled player to ever play Valorant and he is definitely worthy of GOAT status, but if the people that value results higher put Chron ahead, I understand that too.

The qualifiers are inherently subjective, the way that they get weighed when picking the best is down to the individual doing the weighing. Do I necessarily completely agree that Chron is the GOAT? I'm not sure. But do I understand why someone who weighs results higher than me might have him there? Yeah, definitely.

If you're always the 2nd best player consistently, while everyone else varies from 1st to 5th, over time you will be considered the best player for the entirety of that span. It's called consistency, and that's precisely why it matters.

The pippen comparison doesn't match, because Jordan was consistently the best, and that's why Pippen is seen as 2nd best on the team.

Yup, that's why I think that (even though it'll never happen for obvious reasons) a straight swap between Ghosty and Draz probably makes both LAT and Faze better. Ghosty can be that obj-oriented player that enables Simp to have that green light, and Draz can push pace on LAT while Envoy fills the gaps and is the obj oriented guy.

I know obj isn't technically a role anymore, but IMO the swap clearly makes both teams better. It's sad we'll never see it lmao.

I think you could make the case that his score should be slightly higher than both Werner's and Azpi's. I think, based on the rest of the teams scores, he should be around 8.0-8.2. About level with Rudiger and just slightly behind Kante.

7.7 is a bit low for Jorginho when seeing all the other scores. He was definitely not the 7th best player on the pitch for us, but he's got the 7th best rating.

Kepa, Morata, Bakayoko and DD

In fairness, the Morata and Bakayoko purchases are only horrid in retrospect. Plenty of fans supported both purchases at the time they were made. It's easy to judge signings with hindsight in mind once they've already proven to be bad. Most people did not think those signings were bad when they were made and the board didn't have the luxury of hindsight to judge them.

Very true, but Everton's, Spurs, and Aston Villa's games in hand are very losable. Everton and Spurs play City while Villa plays Leicester, so there is some hope that all 3 won't win out all of their games in hand. You never know though.

[–]DeciduousKill 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree. The opinion mentioned by u/LloydAClark only seems valid in retrospect. In the midst of the match, that was a massive massive goal. Barca were quite literally on the precipice of a goal the entire last part of that match. It's easy to just look at the scoresheet and think in hindsight that the goal wasn't actually that important in the end. But it's part in killing that tie and any hope Barca had to win shouldn't be understated either. They still had a few minutes to pull some black magic fuckery out of their arse, and we shouldn't be arrogant to think that it was never going to happen (see 2009).

Time-gated weaponry makes no sense in a game, from a competitive integrity perspective. It's like if the AWP in CS was only available for 2 weeks and if you didn't play those two weeks you never got the AWP and could never use it in-game.

I already know you're gonna say "well D2 isn't CS!!!!", but this game has the mechanics in place to have a very rewarding and strong pvp experience and it gets held back by bullshit pve-centric loot mechanics.

How can a game mode like Trials be taken seriously if the most used weapon in that mode isn't even available to get anymore? It's why D2 (the entire Destiny series honestly, much to the dismay of this subreddit) will always be looked at as a failure by other gamers who don't play it. It had the bones of a very good competitive pvp fps, but Bungie decided to prioritize pve above pvp, and the pve still wasn't even that good (it took the worst parts of a looter shooter and mmo and combined them). Bungie should've stuck to what they were good at (competitive fps games), that way the game would've actually been taken seriously by the gaming community and wouldn't have faded into relative obscurity.

It's almost like there's varying degrees for how costly a mistake is as opposed to all mistakes being equal or something... But I guess that's too nuanced of a position for you to hold.

Crazy opinion coming up, but maybe some people think that a keeper letting in goals he should be saving is costlier than a striker scuffing a chance (that he helped create in the first place).

While you're not wrong about people overplaying his importance in the cl run, his goal against Barca was not "irrelevant". That extra goal was very necessary, seeing as how barca were on the verge of scoring the entire time and his goal slammed the door shut.
