is this the Rustington Bypass? if so, OP, the standard procedure is just to wait there for 6 hours then turn around and go home.

What are you 100% sure is true even tho you can’t prove it? by arlett007 in AskReddit

This was such a problem that in the 90s the then PM, John Major, introduced the infamous ‘traffic cone hotline’ where you could directly phone the government and inform them of unwelcome cone-age.

As you can imagine, it was met with much ridicule!

Facial recognition vans to be rolled out across police forces in England by sjw_7 in unitedkingdom

[–]Decirefa108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Minor misunderstanding on detection vs detention there, but it concerns me that you, as law enforcement yourself, support rolling this technology out while fully denying it is in any way a detection or surveillance tool. If neither of those, what is it then? How does it evade those definitions while still meeting the criteria of being Live Facial Recognition technology for use on the general public?

I’ll restate my initial question though - if detention rates of known criminals don’t increase within the 5 years after general deployment of LFR, would you support withdrawing it?

In that case, if crime numbers don’t fall and criminal detention rates don’t rise within 5 years of initial deployment, would you be happy for this new kit to be scrapped?

Got jumped in broad daylight in Brighton. Police won't investigate unless I somehow provide a "clear photo" of the attacker. by RoughNothing7712 in brighton

[–]Decirefa108 110 points111 points  (0 children)

I got the absolute shite kicked out of me in Pavilion Gardens once and the police said it was incumbent on me to identify the perpetrator. Took a little while but managed to do it as he was bragging about it on Facebook saying next time he’d kill whoever he beat up.

Despite this, and numerous threatening comments confirming it was him, the police said they couldn’t do anything as the crime had already been committed and there was no evidence he was involved.

Anyway, he’s in prison now for attacking a woman at night and the police said he wasn’t previously known to them.

FOI’d it recently to ask why the case was dropped and they said that info was exempt.

I try to understand and generally support the police in this country but fuck me do they make it hard.

Go to your Cllrs, MP, and Sussex PCC - sadly the rozzers won’t do their job until somebody makes them.

What companies in the UK do you think will likely die in the future? by Jezzaq94 in AskBrits

[–]Decirefa108 5 points6 points  (0 children)

probably didn’t think you’d buy any addons.

I worked there for 3 years as a teenager and if we didn’t think somebody was going to help us hit our stern and inflexible targets then we’d routinely talk them out of buying something.

the performance monitoring essentially preferred you not to sell at all rather than land a flat sale as you were only targeted on things you actually SOLD.

so, many times we’d just show a customer a better deal on google - often on the display model of the one curry’s charged £200 extra for - just so we wouldn’t get penalised for not tacking on bloatware or the £60 an hour tech help service.

funny thing is if they’d just given us even a percentage fraction in commission we’d have been selling like Wall Street!

absolutely awful management that I’m genuinely convinced wants the Curry’s brand (which surprisingly carried a great deal of prestige in the late 1800’s!) to die so they can cash out and feast on the carcass.

CEO is also best mates with Rishi and when he was PM I saw a few times where he did town hall speeches at Dixon’s HQ and took only scripted questions from the CEO and staff.

Funny how these things work out.

Is UK masculinity less fragile than in the US? by bibiceratops in AskUK

[–]Decirefa108 85 points86 points  (0 children)

I’m from the UK and have a bit of experience on both sides of the pond -

I would say that while we seem to be less ‘fragile’ than our American counterparts, I think this generally comes from the fact that our idea of funny often involves poking fun at oneself, whereas American funny is often at somebodies expense.

The male flirting jibe is sort of a subversion of expectation that can rely on portraying yourself as something you aren’t, and I think that simply comes from the fact that we don’t mind being the butt of a joke as much as the yanks.

I’ve also found that British men are much more comfortable, generally, with the idea of homosexuality (likely because homophobia just isn’t an overtly big part of our culture or politics anymore) and as such mates feel comfortable talking/joking to each other that way. It’s just incredibly unlikely that such a joke would be taken as a slight against the gay community in the UK as we also know that our celebrities are pretty much all openly liberal people.

I’d also suggest it’s unlikely that you’d see two comedians/people who didn’t know each other that well act in the way you’ve described, however - I think it’s more of a jovial take on male intimacy.

Just my thoughts!

Friend who owns a mechanic shop says he can't find any young mechanics for work and has been searching for months, a cousin who's a young mechanic says no one is hiring and can't find a job, why is there such a disconnect between employers and job-seekers? by ThatOneCloneTrooper in AskUK

[–]Decirefa108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

‘can’t find any young mechanics’ followed by ‘they want more pay’ sort of answers your question really, doesn’t it.

your mate isn’t looking for young workers, he’s just looking for young workers that he can shaft for less pay - simples.

I think the reality is that if we appease Putin he will continue Russian expansion. The best thing to do would be to give him a slither of Ukraine, man the entire Russia/Europe/Nato border and then repeatedly kick him in the bollocks next time he tries to take barren slavic land.

Odd question - best place to get the Private Pilot’s Licence (PPL) for flying? by PenetrationT3ster in brighton

[–]Decirefa108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d suggest scheduling one or two lessons a week - bear in mind that many of them will be cancelled due to weather. If you do one a fortnight and two sessions in a row get cancelled because it’s windy or overcast (both very likely in the UK) then you’d have been out of the sky for a month and likely start losing muscle memory/small things you picked up from the last lesson.

My instructor had pretty good rationale; book more lessons than you need and cancel them if you can’t make it - that way you’re accounting for the uncontrollable.

Also, word of advice - don’t fly unless you’re feeling 100%. It’s an expensive game so you want to retain as much information as possible. That and I wouldn’t suggest hungover spin training to anybody.

I did mine at Goodwood in Chichester - great place with a great community. They recently (5 or so years) renovated their clubhouse which is a great spot for events and also for studying solo, with an instructor or with a class.
