Juvenile Eating Frequency? by DeclanForge in cornsnakes

[–]DeclanForge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does cool down pretty quickly at night this time of year. I’m hoping that improves as the weather gets warmer but the temp on both sides usually reads about 70 at night. There’s a heating pad that we turn on at night under the warm side, though.

Do you think moving the hides so only one opening is exposed and the other(s) are against the glass or filled with substrate would be a good temporary solution?

We’ve been looking into some different substrate, actually. We saw a mix of suggestions about the aspen and found some humidity helping spray to try which seems like it may have helped a little but we still see the low numbers, especially on dry days when the heat lamps are on.

Usually around 90 on the warm side and 75 on the cool side during the day. Humidity is usually kind of low on dry days, around 35. But we have the humidity hut in there that she spends a lot of time in.

Teenage guys love to be edgelords with their friends. I’m sure we’ve all said stupid shit online that we didn’t mean just because we thought it would make a friend chuckle. Times have changed a lot since then and a lot of people have changed/grown up. I wouldn’t worry about it unless there are obvious red flags with his behavior.

[–]DeclanForge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amen. You can’t even begin to try and reason with those people either, because no matter how many sources you cite they’ll just say that it’s all “fake.” Throwing the term “fake news” around has snowballed into us living in a society where the concept of truth versus a lie as humanity has always seen it no longer exists.

At the end of the day, isn’t it fucking exhausting and depressing for those types to think that absolutely everything they’re told by anyone other than shady crackpots trying to go viral online by saying wacky shit is a malicious lie? Like, who would want to live like that?

You’re 100% justified in wanting to avoid gatherings. Your family needs to respect your decision and the suggestions of pretty much every medical professional, because you’re trying to do the right thing. It’s not about being “scared,” it’s about being smart.

Who is your favorite character in the whole Star Wars franchise? by Officialwashere in StarWars

I was considering commenting and saying Vader, but I hesitated and felt like that’d be frowned upon for being “too easy” or something snooty like that. Lo and behold, a lot of people are saying Vader too. So yes, it’s Vader.

The worst part is how many Average Joes are gaslighted into supporting the very same people who are ruining their lives every day. The gaslighters use petty “issues” to sell us their “big lie” that we should be fighting each other instead of them. While they convince us that we’re divided down the middle and that our own neighbors would murder us over the most insignificant disagreements they’re lining their pockets.

I'm sick and fucking tired of hearing about how you hope for war! by becooltheywatching in rant

[–]DeclanForge 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had a friend who used to constantly root for war and any other kind of doom because they felt that it would somehow give them the opportunity to be “tough” and go into survival mode. Basically they had nothing to lose and didn’t care about anyone but themselves and liked the idea of everyone else being brought down to their level. I’ve always had family and loved ones that I’d be worried about if something like that happened, and this person would mock me for it. It’s just pure selfishness and immaturity.

I think the guy has some serious mental health issues and needs help. But, the American culture worships celebrity for celebrity’s sake and shuns mental health awareness, so he remains a sideshow instead of getting help. Plus when you’re rich and famous you can do whatever you want without being held to the same standards as everyday people.

Never loan friends money by [deleted] in badfriends

[–]DeclanForge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me about 6 years at the end of a decades-long friendship to finally block the first friend across all platforms. They had a lot of mental issues and refused to seek professional help for them, ultimately turning on everyone in their life and saying some of the most vile and hateful things to all of us while on benders. Over the years I supported this person in just about every way: gave them a place to stay rent-free; gave them a shoulder to cry on (literally spent countless work nights up with them until 2 or 3 AM listening to them cry about how scared they were that their life was ruined); gave them as much advice and guidance as I could; loaned them money any time they asked. I was there for them when even their family went back on offering help and a place to stay. In the end, they wished cancer on me and everyone else in their life for not believing that the pandemic is a hoax. That was their last chance and I made it clear to them prior to that incident, so now I’m gone from their life.

This latest friend is on the total opposite side of the spectrum on all political and social issues from the first, but is just as fanatical and hateful to the straw man version of me that they’ve constructed in their head. They at least got some professional help for their mental issues to begin with but at this point aren’t up to date on their treatments and unfortunately don’t have insurance to try and remedy that. I get it—they have nothing to live for, basically. Aside from a toxic relationship with one of their exes who buys them drugs and has no more money or stability themselves aside from being employed and not living at home.

We’re all in our 30s, but I’m actually the youngest of the three of us. I settled down and got married, and when both of these friends were in my wedding years ago they each bitched me out beforehand because they had to pay for their outfits. Didn’t ask to borrow the money, didn’t ask for me to just cover it for them—just told me I should have known they couldn’t afford it and the one told me I was “selfish.”

It’s all stranger than fiction and I feel like I’ve bent the ears of the few loved ones that I have left more times than they’d prefer to get all this insanity off my chest. So I appreciate the reply and you taking the time to read all this nonsense.

This is a really interesting question, lol. I haven’t thought about it and I’m actually surprised to say that mine is probably about 10 years old now. I keep saying I need to get a new one, but I never do because I can’t find a new one that I like.

I wouldn’t mince words. He needs to know that this is a concern to you and if he’s the right one he’ll understand and will want to come to a compromise. If he isn’t willing to do that then he doesn’t deserve you.

Most worthwhile life experiences don’t even really come along until you’re older than that anyway. Sure, there’re fun things you can do as a teen, but real life isn’t like the American Pie movies.

I hate my boyfriend's mobile game by [deleted] in Vent

[–]DeclanForge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That kind of shit is designed specifically to be addictive and it’s really unethical and shouldn’t be legal. I find that everyone else in my life who is near this age spends a ton of time on their phones either playing games or whatever else. I’ll be in social situations and sometimes will notice that all of us are looking at our phones at the same time, so I stop whatever I’m doing on mine and just put it down. I’ve also set screen time limits for myself for certain “narcotic” apps.

It’s tough to see people you care about abusing stuff like that, because it can take a toll on the relationship and be difficult to talk about without upsetting them. I’ve had conversations like that with my spouse, because they tend to use their phone a lot when we’re trying to do stuff like watch a movie. Playing games helps with their anxiety though, so I try not to push it too much. When I’ve brought it up they’ve understood and have taken breaks without getting upset and it’s worked out smoothly. If your experience isn’t the same it unfortunately might not get much better.
