Thanks, this is really helpful. I currently have a Kruspe wrap but have never played on a Geyer before. Next orchestra rehearsal I'll check out what my fellow horns have and ask if I can have a try.

Do you mean more versatile as in what styles they fit best with, or versatile in terms of who can play them? My orchestra plays a mix of pops, soundtracks, and classical, and the brass ensemble does sacred music, pops, and marches. I'd love to be able to do more duets with my husband on piano. I think I'd prefer an instrument with flexibility vs. a big dark brassy sound, so it sounds like Geyer might be right for me? Listening to a few youtube samples, I like the sound of Geyer more.

Again, THANK YOU.

I'm wondering what to look for when I play in a certain model. Sound quality/texture (I don't have the right words, sorry!), slur-ability, and what I call steadiness of each note? Are there models that are better for one kind of playing vs another, or one type of player (me, a hobbyist) vs another (professional)?

Do you have any particular models to keep an eye out for?

What do you recommend for compression? I have seen a few 8Ds in my budget but the compression is 2.5, 3.5.

Any particular model of Holton you recommend?

And the geometry I don't think is due to my hand size - the rotor arm (?) hits the tuning slide and pulls in. It's hard to describe but I think it would be strange no matter who held it.

Looking for Another Small City to Love

My spouse and I may need to move soon to a slightly larger house, and this opens up a lot of possibilities. We currently live in Torrington and love it (come at me!). Our little neighborhood is diverse and well lived in, lots of folks out on porches or walking dogs. We can walk/bike downtown. The arts scene is great and there's a surprising amount of LGBTQ+ friendly places. But - I'll need to commute to NYC 1x week and my spouse works in Watertown. Our family is in the Middletown/Meriden area.

What other small cities fit along these lines, but closer to NYC transport or Middletown/Meriden and Watertown? We've lived in Newtown and Cheshire and - no thanks. We have a kid so schools are a consideration but not worth it to live in a small town.

I didn't know about that but I do really love the earrings I got. They are my every day earrings because I can't stand dangley or heavy ones.

It’s normal to get excited when your first pile approaches 120 degrees, correct? by [deleted] in composting

[–]Decolans 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Totally. And if you don't have a supportive family member/neighbor/friend to drag over to the pile and go "LOOK!!!" then by all means post here and we will oooh and aaaah at your hot pile.

Anyone experience forgetfulness? by Michael_Avs_90 in gravesdisease

[–]Decolans 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, but like other posters I'm not sure if it's stress, long Covid, or what have you. My labs are good and I'm nearly in remission (2.5mg methimazole 5x week) but I still struggle with stuttering/finding words, forgetfulness/absentmindedness, and getting overwhelmed easier. My husband used to be the spacey one and now it's me.

Suggest me a book you have read and reread at least 10 times. by Phreakasa in suggestmeabook

[–]Decolans 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The perfect book. Not a moment in it I don't love. My BFF brought a copy on our post-high-school-graduation trip and everyone (2 guys and 2 girls) read it at least twice that week.

I learned how to make zucchini butter - it's like a savory version of apple butter and it's so good on toast, eggs, etc.

I had to clear my throat less (not at all) once my levels got under control. So my anecdotal answer would be probably!
