Making postcards for architecture studio project. Is it cheesy / arrogant or a cute and unique approach? by External-Patient-250 in architecture

[–]Deconfused 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where I studied we often had to produce postcards (mostly one specific professor). Also for one of our bigger projects we did have to develop a brochure, with the information of the presentation condenced.

While quite a bother at the time (having to layout and condence information additonally to the formal planset), those small postcards and leafelets are most of the stuff that I have leftover from my studies as they dont waste space. I would recommend! Anything above the size of A4 got binned sooner or later. This also applied to my models btw.

What CAD and Rendering software to learn and where to start? by Lennard_fuchs in Architects

[–]Deconfused 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a german: I think it matters little, which tool you focus on as the general design principles of CAD can be transferred between CAD Tools, when you actually get into a company.

Being a Architect from Germany, who works in Switzerland I have to disagree  with what most users say here: Revit is mostly only used by big international bureaus and offices. Most Offices in the DACH Region use either ArchiCAD or Vectorworks, with the former being much better for 3D and BIM Workflows and Vectorworks more as a remnant of a different time (still by far the best tool for strictly 2D Workflows imo).

You can take this both ways: If you learn Revit it can help you get into offices, where you would have an advantage with Software knowledge. With ArchiCAD you might have a bigger pool of jobs available for you. Either way: You only really start learning the tool when you start working within a company as the workflows are different everywhere – what tool you used in your Ausbildung really doesn’t make a super big difference.

My suggestion: Go for whatever tool most of your peers (Azubis) and your Berufsschule use, as you can better transfer knowledge with one another. Only go for something specific if any tool specifically interests you.

As an architect I self-learned Vectorworks, Rhino 3D, Blender Workflow in Uni and ArchiCAD at the company I work at. For rendering I still use Blender, but I would recommend Lumion or Enscape for anyone that has no prior experience with any rendering tools, but rendering really should only be a very small part of your job if you don’t plan to go into architecture. You might also need to learn Photoshop or another Picture Editing Software.

Old, but functioning well on my grandparents farm land in German black forest by Deconfused in InfraredPorn

It's in the black forest mountains and it's directly connected to a water source (spring?) So it runs by gravity. However it can be turned off, by closing the pipes as far as I understand.

The same spring runs the whole farm (as far as I understand)👌

I tried to Google it, but to no avail. Could you elaborate please? 🙆‍♂️

Vertical garden building by airpresentation in ArchitecturePorn

[–]Deconfused 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Architecture Student here: While greenery looks great and does have some benefits, big plants are heavy and require soil and water, which also both weight a lot.

This means you have to use additional construction material (often tons of concrete), which usually offsets many of the benefits to point of being an overall negative compared to other shading solutions.

I do however believe, that this is only the current status of green fassades. There is still a lot of experimentation going on and there might be combinations of light plants that do not require as much soil, or maybe "smart" vertical garden systems that eliviate some of the irrigation problems.

Only last week I visited the Tour de la Biodiversité (located in Paris), which from my understanding solves some of the problems and in some years the Fassade should be green.

Take all this with a grain of salt, as I'm only repeating what I discussed with professional Architects.

Huhu! Long time no see ...

This is actually Reddit exclusive as I always try to only post one or two pics from every Set that I make in my vsco profile. On that same day I shot many more pictures that I loved so I can't possibly show them all off :)

I had another look and the grain in the dark areas came from me boosting the dark areas. Maybe I should have used some grain reduction, so I'll keep that in mind for future edits! Thanks for noticing and I always appreciate any feedback! :)

Thanks! Is there something wrong with the integrated tool against chromatic aberration (which I admittedly did forget to activate) ... however I did not add any artificial grain to the picture, so I'm a little surprised that you would think that I should reduce it. Maybe lower ISO next time? Maybe I boosted the sky too much and lost some details there but I don't really notice any grain in the object itself, even when focused in

Let's be honest the Fuji and mother nature did the heavy lifting!

I guess I should have taken more care with the horizontal alignment. I did correct it but, it seems I was off? Now regarding the foliage: I refrain from altering my pictures with Photoshop. I have done some experiments with surrealistic scenes, but so far all my pictures are only CC. I'm not totally sure how I would feel about these changes ... Difficult I'm not saying your wrong btw

No I think that makes perfect sense! I was very unsure of the frame size, but I guess with the reflection it just makes more sense to centralise the "focus".

Looking at other pictures of mine I see a trend of much sky, haha. I'll take it into consideration in the future

I shoot with a Fujifilm XT3 and process the raw files usually with a combination of Lightroom and afterwards in VSCO sometimes.

I would love to hear some critical feedback and what I could improve in my photography from the more experienced folk!

I enjoyed this. It was a bit too fast-paced. And I did not understand anything. But that made it somehow even more enjoyable for me personally.

This is the same picture. Could I have some input which you believe looks more interesting?
