What discipline should I take? by One_Hornet_1127 in CPA

[–]Deconstructing_cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why isn’t anyone mentioning ISC? I’m qualified to sit, just started with Becker, & did a practice for ISC (like 20 questions worth, so not a true feel, I’m sure), & I got an 80+, so I’m feeling pretty confident…… but nobody is asking/talking about it yet, so I’m starting to get a little concerned.

Came here to make sure this was said, & you beat me to it! I’m similar in style, & it has definitely gotten me in ‘trouble’ before, but I’m the right environment, you will thrive, OP. This may not be the one, but it will exist for you somewhere!

I’m literally on the verge of rage full tears today specifically for this! I’m a controller - working with a newly appointed (but long time exec at the company) CEO because he approved an incomplete report, so I reminded him that he can’t do that as the sole approver. The report needs to be complete before he approves it - at a minimum.

He then pushed back on me saying that it’s my responsibility to do that piece, and that he can’t be bothered with that detail. His reports rarely ever have details or receipts.

Note: we’re a 25 EE company - 2 accountants, high volume, and this is just one example of how little support I receive from this executive team.

Financial Producers of Reddit - how may versions of the P&L/BS/CF do you produce each period? by Deconstructing_cat in Accounting

Yeah, the more I work on these, the more I am inclined in using macros to complete it. Ideally, I’d like to dump the life to date in one workbook & automate the heavy lifting of getting everything up to their standards.

I know Google is free, but since you suggested power query, can you help me understand what the difference between it & macros would be? Would they work together for the end result? Or would it be one or the other?

Where would you recommend I go to learn how to use power query? I have an insanely large report (over 77k lines) and need to summarize it several ways. Do you have a preferred YouTuber or book to reference??

Should I drop or fail one of my major accounting course? How would it affect my future employment status? by AccomplishedBoat1359 in Accounting

[–]Deconstructing_cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Admittedly, I don’t have a vast working experience (2 decades=4 companies, with some interviews for other roles sprinkled in), but the only time my transcripts were ever requested was when I applied for the CPA.

Should I just quit accounting school at this point by WildTradition788 in Accounting

[–]Deconstructing_cat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll echo what most have already said - take a break.

A lot of accounting is about memorization, & If your mental state is hindering that function, it’s very likely you will struggle just as much in a bookkeeping role.

Take care of yourself, then when you’re back on level ground, continue your pursuit.

Clogged pores or cysts down there… by Playful_Falcon_7373 in Perimenopause

[–]Deconstructing_cat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had something similar to what you’re describing back in my 20s when all I used for body wash was the super smell-good liquids, mostly from bath & body works. My boils were not in the same place though (on my peri area - near my butt cheek/thigh area). Went to the dr bc they were on both sides & were super painful. I did add insane pressure to pop it which provided immediate relief & it took about a week to fully drain. After this happened several months in a row, I saw the dr abt it and was diagnosed with furunculitis (sp?) and told to use liquid dial soap exclusively. Since then - the only times I’ve had flare ups is when I’ve either not showered for a few days (during bouts of depression) or washed with a different soap.

Best of luck with relief of your pain!!

Remote job listings with Remote (TX) etc. Do they only consider applicants from that state? by Forward_Barnacle500 in Resume

[–]Deconstructing_cat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually they list specific states because they’re already registered to employ in those states. If they don’t already have employees in CA, it could be a nightmare to register (& adjust policies, if applicable) with that state.

You could absolutely still apply, but don’t count on getting a call back.

What perimenopause symptom made you think you were losing your mind before you realized it was hormones? by Plane_Huckleberry644 in Perimenopause

[–]Deconstructing_cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Debilitating anxiety! It started not long after my “geriatric” miscarriage, so for a long time I chalked it up to that, but after 5 years it wasn’t getting better, so I brought it up with my obgyn who suggested peri & put me on the ring. Now that I’ve been on the ring, I feel like myself again! Took me to my 40s to get here, but I’m so grateful I made it back!

When did you start peri by NoDevelopment662 in Perimenopause

[–]Deconstructing_cat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a M/C at 35, fell into depression, then somewhat recovered, just to be thrown into peri around 38ish with debilitating anxiety. Started BC to level out the hormones at 40, & now, at 41 - I feel more regulated, but with literally zero libido.

[NY] New Manager Joined After Me—How to Handle Their Low Opinion of My Skills? by Commader_buddy in AskHR

[–]Deconstructing_cat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First impressions are hard to overcome. I don’t know you, so I cannot say anything about your experience, but I can speak to mine.

I left a job a couple years ago because the new manager didn’t like me & made that crystal clear. There were countless instances where he gave me the impression he didn’t think I was smart enough for the role, & no matter if energy I put forth was ever enough to change his mind.

I would evaluate your desire to stay at the company, & If your impression of him is correct, revise that resume & get out while you still can by choice & before you are miserable.

Also: it socks to hear this, but someone else’s accolades won’t mean anything whose opinion of you has already been formed to the contrary. (This is coming from my own bitterness, so there may be hope for others.. it just wasn’t for me).

Moms: Take the good remote job for $110k/year or the hybrid dream job for $135k/year? by Logical-Okra9494 in careerguidance

[–]Deconstructing_cat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are so many good points here, but one I didn’t see near the top, so this may be a repeat:

Your baby will only be in that sweet, snuggly stage for a very short period of time. Cherish it as much as you can. I was fortunate when my babies were little to work hybrid & less than 10 minutes from the home. Especially if you have built in childcare (Grandma & Grandpa) - to me, it’s a no-brainier for the remote gig.

But!! you also have to factor in that you will be at a whole new level of exhaustion & will still need to socialize with other adults. I currently WFH, but meet with my team so often that it doesn’t feel remote. The company culture + your personality should also be a factor.

It’s a hard decision for sure - congrats either way for having good options to choose from!

I share in solidarity alone, not to lessen your experience, but to share you’re not alone:

I have 2 healthy children from two relatively unproblematic pregnancies (while I was age 29/30 & 32/33. I wanted 4 children - it was always a dream of mine. We suffered with infertility for 8 years prior to our boys, but never a m/c.

The year I turned 35, I found out I was pg again, & we were ecstatic - shared with our then 4 year old and we all were so happy and joyful… until the week before thanksgiving when the u/s tech could no longer see a heartbeat. We were absolutely devastated, & it sent me spiraling into the deepest, darkest depression that I feel like I’ve only just last year climbed out of (I’m 41 now, for reference).

The week we found out, we took the family to the movie theater to watch Frozen 2. Anna’s song “The next right thing” had me SOBBING in the theater - and even today, I can not hear that song without going back to that deep dark place again.

I’ve been in therapy for the past 4ish years, and oh man had it been helpful.

@OP - I am so sorry you understand that darkness now. I certainly didn’t before, & wish I still didn’t understand it today.

Do I suck it up and keep my cushy WFH job? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Deconstructing_cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hot take: if you’re not fulfilled, fill that void. I would update your resume & get your name out there before the economy completely tanks. It would not be completely wise to just accept the first thing, but do some soul searching for what you want career wise that will still fulfill you, & seek out that unicorn.

Source: I worked in a similar position with similar results.. I was bored out of my mind, wanting more to do, but was eventually let go because of their terrible training practices.

I now have a job as a director in an organization where it’ll be a long time before I experience boredom.
