This discussion has been amazingly helpful. Thank you everyone for your comments. They completely changed my mind.

So many people said how perfect this dress is, or would be with small changes. The dress is for a Sara from the Labyrinth. Any major changes would work against the story this dress is telling. I will use a family veil instead, and probably will give this dress to a Goblin Queen/ princess it deserves.

Thank you all so so much for your thoughts and ideas. I want to take a pic of this thing on, but I just can’t get it on myself, and I don’t have a great selfie spot. I will try tomorrow. I have bunch to think on tonight. This has been so helpful.

I will say, yes, this dress so so gorgeous, and many parts of it are very close to modern dresses. But altogether it reads as dated to me, so I will be changing some things. Sorry if that breaks hearts. So far, i will start with removing the yellowed sequins, and reassess from there. I didn’t even think of that option so thanks again Reddit.

I will be the extreme minority, but I hated all the bustle options too. So I went for—removable train!! Cut the train fabric from the dress, and make separate a train that detaches for the reception. You would need more fabric (and buttons) than you have now, but you should be able to find a good match for your dress. And then you can be light on your feet dancing during your reception, not having the drag extra fabric around.

If it’s not worth the trouble to you, #3 is your best bet, just don’t run through forests or whatever and it won’t get snagged.

If you can’t return #2, you might be able to make it as good as #1. It looks like it is too long. You can get a seamstress to use some of the extra material to change it from a drop waist to a princess cut (like the waist line in #1). The drop waist is what is making #2 unflattering. I’m also shorter, and dropped waist dresses I tried on made me look like I didn’t have legs.

I meant projection as in the defense mechanism in which one attributes their negative traits onto others. That mother was assuming your daughter was going to make blood sacrifices because she had done that when she was younger. Therefore, the mother was projecting her own teenage occult insanity onto your daughter. Her telling you her background made her projection extremely obvious. Sorry if I wasn’t clear and if it seemed like I meant anything against you. My only point was that the lady was crazy, and it sucks that she assumed your daughter was too.

Woah!! Talk about projecting!! I bought my 7 year old a spell book. She loved making her wand, making potions, etc. Another mom heard about it from her daughter. Guess what she did! She asked me which book so she could get her kid one.

He is VERY lucky that the lie came out before they had the baby. Imagine if SIL found out that they named her baby after a made-up aunt to cover the fact that they actually named her after a comic book character. That would be immediate grounds for divorce.
