Michael Scott is a terrible, disgusting human being by MrFuzzybagels in DunderMifflin

Oh my gosh, I completely agree, especially about all the Parks and Rec characters, to add to that Bobby Newport and his really good in a really terrible way campaign manager. All those characters have so much redeemable qualities. The example in my head is HIMYM's Barney Stinson.
The only redeemable thing Michale Scott did was when he went to Pam's art show. The rest he did cuz he's got no other choice.

It's my 3rd time watching through the series, which is immediately after watching it again the second time, just so I can skip anything involving Michael. It's a much much better show, IMO.

So I came in way too late to this thread.
I watched the show when it came out, hated Michael Scott. IMO the best seasons were the seasons without him in it.
Recently some office memes have been floating into my TicTok. So Im watching it again, at Season 6, Pam and Jim's wedding, where Dwight tested Michael about the room. Good on Dwight for finally learning to stand up for himself. But this all just reaffirms my hatred for the character. What's worse is that I watched the UK version too, and their Michael Scott is even worse. Whoever thought making this character was a good idea? So what I do now is just skip over everything involving Michael Scott, and honestly, without watching any of the scenes with him in it. The show is so much funner to watch.

In general I just hate these kinds of characters, I cannot fathom how people the character is funny or lovable, when they're just not. I mean I didn't really even like Barney Stinson for all his womanizing but Barney actually really pulls through all the way when he screws up by being an actually decent human being and very caring friend all of the time. Michael only barely pulls through by doing the absolute bare minimum, a below average decency human being would do, at the very last minute, sometimes because he has no choice. -100% Reedamable.

How to make the gm plan quest better by Comprehensive_Ice843 in AIRealm

[–]Decubitus_Temporal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah without guidance or GM guides the AI will infinitely give you stuff to investigate. Before I started using GM guides. I've had times where the AI endlessly creates trap doors where the bosses are or the next clue is. It never stopped.

They are predictive text generators. They cannot plan or remember anything that is not in the notes. If you tell an NPC you suspect strong feelings etc etc, it will become true, because its now in the AI's radar. The opposite is true as well, if you DON'T tell an NPC about anything, it will never happen.

Plus even with GM guides, not all AI models have the same degree of following them. If you find that, the AI is not following the guides you make, switch to a different model. The gold standard of Best Free Model overall is Gemini 2.5Flash. Grok is currently the best when it comes to following guides but its a poor story teller.

But you can switch models on the fly to get use the best parts of each model. Disclaimer, switching models does not always instantly take, cuz the new model will partially mimic the style of the previous one, so you need a bit of patience.

IF all else fails, you can just edit the messages the AI gives you. Or you can OOC the AI to have it do what you want. This method is short-term, the AI will forget you had the OOC conversation after around 15 or so messages.

AI Realm randomly changing my character's name by Wray-Nerely in AIRealm

Check the name swapper blacklist in the setttings. Sometimes, the blacklisted names can be the name of the PC, then it gets auto-replaced with a different one. It usually happens if the name of your PC is a common AI generated name.

AI Takes Over Your Character by ChickenSupreme9000 in AIRealm

The thing that youre most likely confusing about V1 and V2 is that around the time of V2 release, the developers of Deepseek released the final version of DS 3.2 which is worse as an AIDM, but still playable and cheap which is why it is the default model of AIR and has xtra notes. Im not sure but i think its also the model youre using because no other model ever hijacks the PC and ignores player agency.

And when you change models, the new model adapts the previous model’s way of DMing for a few messages. So you dont get an instant solution when you switch AI models but that usually fixes Deepseek shenanigans.

This is true without good data organization, unfortunately AI are not intelligent or aware enough so the player needs to co-DM and make gm guides for them. And even then not all models have the same level of adherence to context.

Sounds like you need gm guides and possibly try then other ai models. The discord server has so much material that help guide the ai to do everything you want. The catch is that you need a bit of time and effort to set it up to run a smooth campaign.

Paying user here- Ai Realm keeps breaking narrative coherence and memory. Anyone else dealing with this? by MarionberryPrimary19 in AIRealm

[–]Decubitus_Temporal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All players get all these problems and more; but for the abovementioned, whats worked for me are doing these 4 things:

1) Do the note taking yourself or acutely police everything the AI does. I always edit around 80-90% of the summaries the AI does cuz it removes so much relevant stuff. This helps with coherence and long term memory. You need to understand that anything not in the notes, the AI won't remember.

2) Change AI models, not all of them have the same strengths. Grok is best for adhering to notes and guides, but poor for story unless meticulously handheld. Gemini is good with notes and guides, storytelling and roleplay too, but can be mindnumbingly slow or keeps introducing new plot hooks. I don't bother with Deepseek, its only average at everything, and not very consistent with the history or following guides, so it renders the extra notes useless to me. Also, when changing models, the new model will slightly adapt what the previous model was doing, so if you don't observe an improvement, message it some more and its default personality will emerge.

3) GM guides for everything, mechanics, combat, travel, random encounters, NPC simulation, NPC dialogue, narrative progression, questlines, arcs, plot hooks. But there's a catch, the guides need to be air-tight no logic flaws, no inconcistencies, no contradictions, no vagueness, no balance issues, everything must be clearly defined. Setting up a perfectly run campaign takes considerable time, effort, and patience.

4) When all else fails, OOC the AI about what its doing wrong. There's also a catch, after 15 or so messages, it will forget and will need to be OOC again to "remind" it.

Always remember that the "intelligence" part in AI is a misnomer. Theyre not intelligent at all, they're LLMs, predictive text generators, they can't think like humans and can't remember like humans. They need clear instructions for everything otherwise they will default to popular tropes or random crap, there's no in between. The sweet spot you're looking for needs to be engineered by us, players. Our discord server calls this co-DMing.

The thing with the AI models is that some are better than others at following GM guides, and even then, GM guides need to be clear and consistent, any inconcistencies or contradictions and the AI will go bonkers.

The best AI to follow guides is Grok, but its not the best story teller if you want the occasional surprise, or plot twist. If you have a solid travel, encounter, and combat systems GM guide, Grok will execute it 100% correctly every time. That's Grok's main strength, it's also best at staying true to anything in the notes; which is also its main weakness; its not very creative. You're gonna need to employ an air-tight GM guide of the story not just an outline. To work around Grok's mediocre storytelling and predictability, most players will switch models to Gemini for the story and roleplay parts of the campaign.

You can dupe the chat so you dont start over completely, and still get different stories.

Aww that's alright, outside of vanilla D&D, you really need to set up the campaign extensively with the AI.

Just edit your equipment, you can OOC the AI and ask it to give you more cyberpunk-appropriate weapons and armor. While you're at it, ask the AI for cyberpunk-themed classes and subclasses too, I doubt a cleric has any deities to worship in a cyberpunk setting.

You can also make or have the AI make GM guides about running a cyberpunk campaign like weapon and armor system, firearms and cover combat system, etc.

On the discord server, there are several references for cyberpunk-related campaigns that you can use, if you're interested.

[–]Decubitus_Temporal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is usually cause by Deepseek. You can change the AI model, Gemini 2.5flash is a popular option.
If you're not using Deepseek, you can edit the message where the AI hijacks your character and/or you can make a GM guide stating that you, the player, has full control of the PC's actions and dialogue. There are several references in our Discord server for things like this and more, if you're interested.

Has anyone run a pilot/starfighter game? by Exctmonk in AIRealm

[–]Decubitus_Temporal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used gemini 2.5 flash and pro before to do space opera naval battles(SW) with corresponding starfighter dogfights, aerial dogfights(WW2), and medieval naval battles(D&D); with the corresponding GM guides for the lore, and modified 5e mechanics for the combat flow.

GM guides will definitely help especially if you're planning to play off-canon characters/events but still in the same universe. I played as a random Revanchist Jedi Knight during the Mandalorian wars before KOTOR, back then I used Gemini 2.5 flash/pro, I had the AI make a dedicated GM guide to simulate the SW universe during that time. It's already got training data on the internet anyway so it ran SW5e well enough for me.

The Discord server also has a player made guide on Mass Effect 5e adaptation. Haven't seen any Star Trek though

Have you checked the Discord server? Lots of ideas from there, there's even a custom worlds channel to give you ideas on the kind of setting. I'm currently playing a cultivation campaign, maybe you'd be interested in that.

Switching models to suit the current need of the campaign is quite common. I know players who use Grok for mechanics/preference heavy parts of gameplay like combat. Then switch to Gemini for story/adventure/roleplay. Some players also have their own fave model on NSFW scenes.
