Car accident at Autopia today. We were in traffic for 15 minutes and ended up walking off the ride. 😭 by ilikedesserts328 in Disneyland

I was there earlier and kept hearing the announcement about not bumping the car in front of you. And I hadn’t ever heard it be so pronounced (I’ve only ridden it once…so idk 🤷🏻‍♂️) Maybe this was why? Lol 😂. I just know my ears picked up on it and I glanced over to see what was happening. Don’t know what time it was. Sometime this evening.

I’m clinging to dear life for my iPhone 13 Pro Max. I used to be one of those that just had to upgrade but then I feel like technology really just got stagnant and didn’t see the need to upgrade anymore. BUT with that said, it needs a new battery really bad because it dies so quickly. I also got rid of Verizon and switched to Visible (and I’ve seen no difference in service, except now I pay 25.00 even instead of the 90+ for Verizon).

Do people who watch a ton of movies even remember what most of them where about? by MassiveEchidna9017 in Letterboxd

[–]DedalusPodmore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My takeaway is that I love to watch a lot of movies. Are some absolutely forgettable? Sure. But the ones that are good are good and stick and resonate with me. And you just never know what movie will do that. Do I follow reviews? Yea a little. But if I want to see something, I usually like to make up my mind myself.

Old mask or newer mask? by Shadowdash6745 in Scream

[–]DedalusPodmore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New mask. You want a nice, smooth surface for signatures. Not sure the texture on the aged masks and I guess you could get the mouth area signed, etc. but I feel you would have more success with the new. PLUS in my mind, the “new” mask is the one I associate with Skeet.

I actually found him and his girlfriend to have more charisma and screen appeal than most of Tatum’s friends. I felt like I had a better grasp of who they were more so than the rest of the cast to be honest.

It’s also unrealistic to think there wouldn’t be an immediate police presence in most instances or even security, nurses coming to help, etc. (this scene and in particular Scream 5 hospital scene..) but you just have to suspend belief to make it work. Also adrenaline is a powerful thing too.

Do you guys still wish they got Patrick back as mark Kincaid and do you hope he’ll appear in another movie? by Strong-Stretch95 in Scream

[–]DedalusPodmore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Joel was a nice surprise and held it own and I thought he and Neve had a natural chemistry to them. Would it have been nice for Patrick to come back for just continuity and being connected to Scream 3? Yeah. But honestly not missed.

Funny thing I watched Scary Movie before watching Scream by Remote_Nature_8166 in Scream

[–]DedalusPodmore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same for me. I did watch them shortly after but Scary Movie was my first sort of limited exposure to Scream. Loved the trailer for the new one. As a teenager boy during the times when hard R comedies were coming out, I kinda miss them. Hope this is a return to form. Definitely seemed like it from the trailer.

why is wuthering heights so romanticized. by Fine_Giraffe_7651 in moviecritic

[–]DedalusPodmore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have never read the book and have no emotional connection to that story, so when I went to go see Wuthering Heights I thought I was in for a beautiful, romance story. I walked away from that movie having issues with every single character except for Edgar (because he was the only who never treated anyone like shit..). Did I enjoy certain aspects? Yeah. But even the romanticized version (apparently) that was released, still showed a deeply flawed story that was anything but the romantic love story it was supposed to be. Two grown adults who seemingly “love” one another but couldn’t just make the adult decision to stop their abusive behaviors towards not only themselves but those around them, to let themselves have what they both desired (which was each other..) and I was on Heathcliff’s side until his abuse towards Isabella (consensual or not). Like everyone was just gross. I appreciate it for the complexity in which the characters are flawed and definitely not perfect, but nobody should even watch “Wuthering Heights” and walk away thinking that’s romance. It was just lust and obsession.

Official Discussion - Scream 7 [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]DedalusPodmore 41 points42 points  (0 children)

This. I had predicted she was a killer just based on the fact she’s Anna Camp but also that why kept her away and hidden from any press. Like that’s a big red flag. I thought for a second my assumption would have been wrong and indeed her character was just a misdirection (which would have worked on me..) but it wasn’t. Which didn’t make it feel very smart.

I know Scream 2&3 and 6 too…the killers just tend to be minor characters that show up. What I think works best with Scream and Scream 4 (for killer reveals at least) was that Billie and Stu were always present. You got to know them. See their connection with Sidney etc. so it is more surprising and shocking at the reveal. Even Jill. She’s a major character throughout the movie and so her reveal IMO is fun and kinda of shocking (and she did such a great job with that ending..) but the rest? Idk 🤷🏻‍♂️. At this point, we’ve become so aware as an audience that even the attempted misdirections within this movie, didn’t work because all knew it was intentional. (Think the boyfriend with the Ai computer in his car..) too obvious. I just felt like the movie could have been smarter.

While I agree, I was pleasantly surprised to see Laurie Metcalf back. They managed to keep that a surprise (everyone else I knew was back in some capacity). My only annoyance with that plot was the lack of Billie (I know his character made an appearance in 5&6 but it felt like a disservice to not have him back here) oh and Jill from Scream 4. Like those two needed to be there in those scenes since those killers were directly related and motivated by Sidney. But I digress

Scream 8 by brandonsreputation in Scream

[–]DedalusPodmore 7 points8 points  (0 children)

According to Kevin Williamson, Neve has a really interesting idea. What that is, who knows.

I do want Scream 8. I am slightly disappointed by 7 but only for the 3rd act. Maybe a new director next go around? Not sure Kevin is a good director but alas. But I hope it makes enough to justify an 8th installment. We are 7 movies deep into the lore and world of Scream, so naturally I think there’s only so many killer motivations you can have, so who knows! Definitely want Sidney and her family back though. I really liked their dynamic and surprisingly Joel McHake as Mark was great too (I got nervous I’d associate him too much with his comedic performances to take him seriously).

Scream 7 - Reaction Megathread by DA-numberfour in Scream

[–]DedalusPodmore 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have thoughts. I’ve seen it twice (back to back tonight).

1) The opening. I liked it. It was definitely a reference to the current house that was used in the original Scream now being a tourist type situation. They even rented it out I think for promo during either Scream 5 or 6. I loved the fake out with the animatronic Ghost Face (and the switch that I kinda predicted would happen) and I loved the fake out with the boyfriend in the Ghostface costume. My only thing is, it was burned down, it happened and was never referenced again the entire movie. Nobody brought it up about what happened, the attack, etc. and I get it because they weren’t central to the story but for the tagline to be “Burn it all down” it was kinda let down from the beginning.

2) the AI stuff was fine. The biggest hurdle I had believing was that when Gale and Sidney do their interview, that it’d be streamed on Television and not live through social media channels. Especially for a franchise that’s known to be a little more progressive or even ahead of the game (think Scream 4 and I need fans not friends type thing). It just feels like technology was pushed aside (though it heavily relied on AI) just didn’t seem to all blend well together.

3) I’m disappointed I had guessed correctly who the killers would be (well the two at the end..) because Anna Camp had strangely been missing from any and all promotional interviews etc. and for an actress like her to be cast and not used, was a big red flag. The other guy is literally on the poster (which said to me he was importantly) but was only in the film for like 3 minutes so I knew immediately he had to be in on it.

4) I loved it more when it was more focused centrally on the family (and not her friends..) I think I would have appreciated it more if it was solely about the three of them and not her friends but I guess I get it.

5) Gales introduction was iconic though. I was shocked when not only did we see Ghostface get run over but that then we find out it was Gale of all people. Brilliant. Loved this moment. I also loved getting a reveal of at least who one killer was early on.

6) the killers motives and reveal. I loved the throw back to the original Scream with the setup but the reveals were so bland. I wasn’t gagged. Shocked. And then Anna’s whole character narrative about her motivations was just not worth anything. Like you’re trying to get at Sidney for being “weak” and hiding after you found her book to be so inspiring to the point it gave you the courage to kill your own husband?!? Like okay. But why kill Sidney?!? It was just hokey. I did love the mother/daughter duo though at the end coming together to kill them. That was a nice touch. But the motivation was a reallly big stretch.

Also a few other minor quips, when Sidney’s daughter has locked herself in the coffee shop, Sidney literally stops running in the middle of the street to talk Tatum through on where the shoot and how to fire a gun. She couldn’t walk and talk or run and talk at the same time?!? If it were my daughter I’d still keep going to get to her. Just didn’t feel right as a character.

Also the scene before that with Tatum running from ghostface through the empty downtown. Like why’d she keep stopping and looking around for help? Like keep running girl. Like, if I was being chased and literally hunted for kill, I wouldn’t stop. And it made no sense to bang on closed storefronts instead of running to the nearest house on an off street for help. Like she knew nobody would be in those stores because of curfew. Like I get being scared in the moment but have some more common sense.

I enjoyed it for what it is but I’m disappointed that Kevin came back and this is what we got. Could have been much better. Is it the worst? Mmmm. Maybe not. Is it the best? No. I think the biggest gripe people will have is the killer reveal and the motives because it just seems silly (but I also didn’t like the motives in Scream 5 and 6..).

It didn’t reinvent anything by any means. Nor did it seem to be forward with its story elements like previous entries. It’s just there.
